Staph Infection

I posted on here around a month ago about an ingrown hair that I had. It went down but then today the area seemed really infected.
That area today is super inflamed, swollen, red, sore and warm.

I got an appointment with the doctor who prescribed me antibiotics for a staph infection.

I am freaking out though as I know a staph infection can get serious. I've thrown all bedsheets etc into the wash. Binned the razor I was using (although I haven't been shaving that area). The doctor said staph bacteria is present on everyone's skin but sometimes it gets into a cut.
I have had mosquito bites before which have got very infected, like huge red welts (I am super super allergic to the bites) but have always been okay.

Can anyone walk me back from the edge of this cliff?I am very scared about it possibly spreading and causing sepsis etc.

Hi, totally get your panic because of what we hear on the news about MRSA and Staph but I will try to reassure you a little! 🙂 You are right Staphylococcus is sometimes present on our skin, its an opportunistic bacteria so basically as soon as the conditions are right (wound, moisture etc) it will grow and multiply. I actually worked in a lab on MRSA so it's likely I've got it in my nasal passages as part of my microbiome 🤣

If you don't mind me asking are you immunocompromised in any way? If you aren't hopefully with the help of the antibiotics your body should clear the infection up soon. I dont think the doctor would have prescribed them if they didn't think would work as they've got really strict with antibiotics because of the widespread resistance that's occurring! Obviously if you don't notice a difference in a few days definitely go back ❤

No, I am not immunocompromised. Hopefully it works then. How soon should I know if they are working??

I had a really bad staph infection under my armpit. Was so painful but if I remember rightly the antibiotics started working within 4 days. I'm a staph carrier (work in a lab, been tested) and I've never been ill with it. It's always just been a relatively minor infection albeit sore and cleared up quickly.

I think within a few days, how long is the course overall? The leaflet should let you know when you should start to feel better. I hope it all clears up for you ASAP 🥰

This is really gross so soz for the details but I have a recurring staph infection in my nose. I have an antibiotic ointment which sorts it out super quick. You have to use it for the whole 7 days even though it feels almost back to normal after 2. It's the same, we all carry them and noses are where they like to live. I'm a swimmer so I blame the pool 🤣

A little update, I have been applying warm compresses and vick's vapor rub with clean q tips and the boil started to leak this morning  - won't pop it of course. I have been disinfecting it with rubbing alcohol. Will obv finish the antibiotics too 🙂

I'm actually not sure putting Vicks on it is the best idea as I know it says not to put it on open sores wounds or cuts! I think sudocrem would be better if you have that?

Have you seen any improvement?

I applied it when there was no head and it pulled all the gunk up to form a head. Then leaked 🤮. I haven't applied it since.

It has gone down significantly and isn't sore now.
