This is going to be waaaay to much information that I shouldn't really be sharing, but seeing where we are now, I just have to say it in the hope that it gets to at least one person and changes the way they think.

I am considered 3rd generation British. My great grandfather was born in what was British India/Raj in 1922. He died in 2020. British India was subsequently divided under British rule much later and he was technically born in what we now call Pakistan. He was 17 when he joined the British Army and a father of two, he had my grandma and my great uncle. Great grandad was one of the 400,000+ Muslims serving in one or both of the World Wars, for, the British Army.

My grandmother was only a few months old when she arrived in the UK with her dad. She lived her whole life in the UK and went on to have her children one of them being my mum, and then I came along rather a lot later.

I just want people to think, just please please stop and think before opening their mouths. Every single person you see who doesn't look like your typical British person (whatever that is) has a story, they have a background and heritage that you know nothing about. The black person or Asian person or brown person or Sikh person or Hindu person you see walking down the street is here for a reason. Take a look at history, do your research and have a look at how the UK actually became what it is now, a diverse country with many cultures living (semi) peacefully.

All I have been seeing on social media (algorithms obviously) is the constant racist comments and the old chestnut of "deport them" "go back to your own country" etc. It got old a long time ago and it just shows the sheer ignorance of so many.

I was born in the UK and I know nothing different. I never had my own country to go back to and I am just as British as your children and grand children.

Although I now live abroad, I love my heritage and I love that I am able to say that the UK was where I was born and raised. I don't consider myself a practicing Muslim (my name on here gives it away somewhat!) but I respect my families religion and I respect the culture I was born in, just like millions of others.

It is not "fresh off the boat" or "off the back of the lorry" which is the rhetoric that so many people just spout without even having an ounce of historical knowledge or context.

If the next time you want to know about something, ask that person, ask them how they came to be where they are.
Before ignorantly assuming that you know that someone everyone is fresh off the boat without papers, you may be surprised to learn that they have been here just as long as you have, and their families certainly have, too.

My great grandfather's story is my story and I'm proud of him and I'm proud of my story.

I have been lurking here and I value the many informed opinions whether it's something I agree with or not. I am glad there is open and honest discussion about what is happening in our world, as a whole, right now.

Honestly I actually just can’t anymore. The amounts of comments on here, on other social media just tells me you know absolutely nothing about the asylum system/what they get/reasons as to why people end up here. It’s pure and utter racism that you’ve just swallowed up by the media.

And I’m in no way saying that immigration shouldn’t be controlled either. Things do need to change but a multitude of things together…what doesn’t need to happen is for all immigrants/asylum seekers/refugees to be racially abused, attacked, and for Muslims to be directly targeted.

I literally BEG you to search how many WHITE MALES commit violent crimes against women and children in the daily. Ask yourself why you’re not up in arms about this?! Why is it only when the perpetrator is not white.
disgusting.

Edited to add - they are PEOPLE. Where the fuck is your humanity!

I have no idea how people can sit here and not say a word about the fact some meat heads set a hotel ON FIRE that is housing asylum seekers.

This has gone too far now. I'm scared for my friends, the students I work with (majority international students who are here on their own for the summer and who pay a ridiculous amount of money to study here) and especially the young men I coach who are seeing all this devastation around them because of the colour of people's skin.

It's abhorrent. It's disgusting and it's backward.

By all means, let's discuss immigration properly. A good debate is healthy. But this is awful.

No one rioted when a black mother and children were burnt to death in their home in Clifton by a white man did they?

I'm looking forward to the protests the next time a white male kills a woman. I'm sure all these people who want their country back will be out kicking off about that. Or will it be "its not all men."

When did we become so fucking horrible to each other?

3 families are planning the funerals of their babies right now and these idiots use it as an excuse to behave like this?

It's an insult to those families and those little kids.

One thing I’m curious about is the guy on sky news saying “the mosques are open, come in and discuss” so can I come in without a Hijab on?
I don't know how to break this to you, but some Mosques, Gurdwara's, Synagogues, Churches etc even operate as food kitchens for homeless folk at times and people are welcomed in, in whatever they happen to be wearing.

I think Laurence Fox may be getting arrested some time soon ...

And British girls don’t get raped by British men? As a teenager I was raped by a British white man who was a lot older than me, I went to the police and they didn’t have enough evidence on him so he now walks the streets. Its MEN who do this to women regardless of race and religion 😡

They’ve desecrated Muslim graves in Burnley with white paint.
One of the graves is of young man who I knew well, arranged his funeral after he tragically died in a car accident. My children play with his young children. It is heartbreaking it happening to anyone but knowing these children will learn about this...no words! 💔

A branch of Barclays Bank was vandalised in Burnley town centre at around 3am. Red paint and shattered windows, locals blaming Pro Palestine supporters. Lots of false information being shared. Our local post office, run by two young Asian Muslim brothers had their own 'security' parked outside today, 2 4x4 cars each containing a burly man.

Right now I feel scared...but my daughter's 11 year old friend who wears a headscarf got water thrown at her today in Burnley town centre, the middle aged white man throwing it had shouted it was acid and then followed it by "only joking love" oh and this is just after a man exposed himself to her! However scared I feel that poor girl is feeling far worse!

I’m currently watching a TikTok live from an ongoing protest in Middlesbrough, where people are smashing up cars and shops. Yet they are puzzled why the police aren’t letting them continue down the road to have a “peaceful protest”. Some have came to the conclusion it’s because they’re white 🙄.
There’s some sort irony about wrapping yourself up in a St George flag whilst screaming about foreigners and being proud to be English though given that Saint George was Turkish and never stepped a toe on English soil.

I live on a street where the majority of people on it are from other cultures and you know what it's the nicest community i have ever lived in.

The most trouble on our street comes from a white British family who have raised 4 moron children who can barely string a coherent sentence together and don't seem to contribute anything to society.

Give me my hard working, respectful and kind muslim neighbours next door any day. They have never once shown me or my family anything other than respect and kindness.

He’s off on his hols tomorrow ! Cannot abide him. It was Starmer is his former role that fought for migrants illegal and legal to be given befits straight off…that was a v bad decision! Yet they take old people’s heating allowance and about to clobber is with more taxes …people are fed up! immigration is way too high we can’t sustain it
This fake news you're perpetuating isn't helping the situation.

Keir Starmer 2003 court case is not the reason asylum seekers get support – Full Fact

I know it’s not a laughing matter but imagine ruining your life over a few cookies and gingerbread men from Greggs. Twat.

There has been some chatter that the nearest large town closest to me may have a “protest” planned for Wednesday.

I’m making this to go down and counter protest with if that happens!

These riots are just terrible and no answer to anything. The sight of people surrounding that hotel and trying to set it on fire was just appalling. The people inside must have been terrified. It made me feel sick to see that aggressiion this country.

Starmer needs to recall parliament from their holidays and possibly get the army on alert for any future planned riots. The police just look inadequate.

A lethal combination of racism, anti migrant feeling and opportunists who like the idea of looting shops and throwing things at the police. They have no respect for authority but they are probably living shit lives so they just don't care.

Starmer also needs to think of a better long term strategy like addressing why our country is in this state with so many people thinking there's no hope for the future 😥
I think a lot of the thugs are quite happy with their lives on benefits and like to pretend immigrants are taking opportunities away from them. Its pure racism. I don't care what excuse they come up with - bored, no future blah blah. Nothing justifies trying to harm innocent people. Nothing.

Same as “they’re taking all our jobs” but are also “taking all and every single benefit” which one is it because those two things can’t be true 🤷🏽‍♀️
There was a video of a guy complaining he couldn’t get a job because of immigrants, it wasn’t the fact that he was a convicted peadophile.

You don't have to wear a hijab in a mosque , it's a personal decision. You must dress modestly, but going to their place of worship surely you'd want to respect their traditions and customs - treat people how you want to be treated etc. Isn't the reason people are angry that they are not respecting british culture, why wouldn't you respect theirs?

I’ve just seen they’re also apparently working with some premier league football clubs to give 5 year bans to any season ticket holders if they’re taking part in these riots…I wasn’t expecting that to be one of the ways to try tackle it but is it sad that I think this might be something they’d actually stop and think twice about if they were to be banned from football games 😩 what a sad world we genuinely live in when I actually think this could potentially work to an extent 😣
