Please keep us updated on this as it’s such a great ideas to have a community group and I’d love to hear the impact it has on the SW group.
I will, thank you. We do need an app we can all use they are talking MyFitnessPal or Nutracheck I think it is called. I don’t know a lot about food apps or apps in general so if any one here can provide some suggestions?

We had a catch up earlier today, the format seems very good and the personal trainer is a really nice guy, the exercise can be tailored and split depending on age groups and abilities. Most of us joining are in late fourties’ or fifties, we want to make it good and challenging for younger members too.

He said something that really stuck with us all. No food should be labelled as a sin as it can create the poor relationships with food and it is about portions, control and accepting that you can have a life and enjoy food. I know this is a topic many have discussed here too.

What was very interesting was an ex slimming world member, she went to national finals, she was encouraged to be on Instagram to promote her food and weight loss by slimming world, she openly spoke out against members who were using the slimming world brand to line their own pockets with discount codes, she whistleblew on a member admitting to using cocaine to achieve big losses but admitted to loving the attention slimming world brings. She was the one who slimming world shunned and never contacted again. Her story was so interesting, she had a lot of battles with Slimming world. I hope she attends the new group.

My Mum says it all the time 😑
How has the world been making chips for over a hundred years without slimming world telling us how to do it ffsss 🙄🤣

The one thing that I actually liked out SW was the lack of weights and measures. But as someone who literally grew up within the diet (Mum took me when I was 15 and I only severed ties at 43).

My eating is now so screwed up and I find I have a habit of going off the deep end and panicking with cal counting. Nutracheck is great unless your using certain foreign foods that your can't read the nutrition info for.
I attended slimming world with my daughter and I would be upset if I screwed up her relationship with food. You have really made me think with that one.

We joined together to have something to go to and if we had a wedding or an event and we enjoyed the mother and daughter time. I admit there were times we would get weighed and then go for tea and cake afterwards, we never took itvery serious like some do. I can see where slimming world has caused eating disorders.

I saw someone post about a low syn lemon and blueberry cous cous cake earlier and it's made my day just that little bit more sad.
Saw someone I know who’s on slimming world posting about gravy because it’s Sunday and doing it syn free and had flashbacks to the many many conversations we had about gravy in group!

Just use an oxo cube ladies or get some bisto it’s really not that bad 🙄

I think being in your 20s and joining is different developmentally from being 15. For me it was during the difficult teen years were I never felt I was good enough and didn't tick any of the boxes mum drew for me.

I know mum meant well, she just didn't know how it would effect me and that it made things worse.

One positive thing that I did get from SW is that I went on and researched nutrition on my own and have a better understanding of what bodies need to thrive I don't think I would have gone down that rabbit hole without SW.
Slimming world has helped my family be a bit more nutritionally aware. When cooking for the kids in their late teens I would reduce some of the portion sizes subtlety and introduce more variety of veg instead of carbs.

Now they’re grown up, I feel like I can have a cake when I’m out for coffee and when on the very rare occasion I fancy a takeaway, I’ll just have one. When people tell me of some of the pointless slimming world hacks. They make me cringe. I still haven’t got over slimming world members filling half Easter eggs with crap, sweetener and e-numbers.

Can someone tell Louclaireslimmingworld that she won’t gain 10lbs if she has a cocktail…her statement about just having vodka. So unhealthy and she’s putting a really negative message out there to her followers.
plus her story about not using filters…yeah Ok hun
She is very aggressive sometimes/a lot of the time. This morning- ‘yes I did my spin class’. I am sure nobody was messaging her at 8am questioning if she did her spin class or not….

I’ve been a slimming worlder since I was about 16, so more than half my life. Even when I wasn’t actively going to group and getting weighed, I would use the healthy a and b choices, would think of pasta and rice as free but not eat oil, nuts or avocado because SYNS. Done a lot of reading recently and turns out the diet slimming world promotes is really incompatible with PCOS (which I have) and explains why the diet has never ‘worked’ for me long term. I’ve recently switched it up loads, balancing my carb intake with protein and fat, and I’ve never felt better.
I think as soon as you realise that these big diet companies actually aren’t supposed to ‘work’ (because then they’d never make any money as everyone would lose weight then not go back) it clicks.

This is what I was thinking; £24 a month I could buy a new recipe book, a gadget for the kitchen, a beauty treatment to make me feel good etc. I have scales at home and it’s expensive anyway to mention the fuel to get there etc.
Add the hi fi bar temptation, the subtle magazine advertising, the raffle money, and the after club shopping for quark etc.

It is not until you start summing all this up that you realise how SW are ripping people off.
It costs me roughly £35 per month.
That is someone's weekly foodshop.

Like @hereforalaugh38 said, Nutracheck is Gold. For £25/year it has so much features.

I do an involuntary shudder when I see chopped tomatoes thanks to slimming world...Because they would use them in absolutely EVERYTHING 🤢
Did you ever make the 'heinz' tomato soup with chopped toms, pickled onions and tinned carrots? 🤣 I even made JSG supergreen soup. It's like I was completely brainwashed!

Not gonna lie I feel like shit, I’m going on holiday next week so I will feel even more shit when I get back from that. SW has been entering my mind AGAIN because I’m thinking ‘it will hold me accountable’ etc, but I’m just like nooooo don’t do it 🙈 haven’t got my text yet or card in the post but sure they will arrive!
Yeah, I’ll hold my hands up too! I hate so much about it, I hate the way people get when they’re on it, and I’m in a better place with regards to my relationship with food, for not following SW or any other diet.
But I still keep toying with the idea of rejoining to “properly get the weight off” 🙀

First and foremost they are all a form of business, designed to make as much money as possible from the customer, with as little effort as possible. Once you realise that you just can't go back to believing in them or the lies they spew out
Oh yes 100%! That's what she says - she did a video recently that says if target members get free membership forever as long as they stay at a certain weight, and if slimming world really works, why aren't they bankrupt and overrun with target members? Makes you think

I think the issue with SW in situations like this is the whole ‘on plan’ and ‘off plan’ statements that are always made. The mentality is wrong immediately when someone says they are going to be off plan as it tells your brain you can pig out when really there shouldn’t be a distinction and you are just having a holiday.

It has taken me years to realise this and I did the exact same things when I was with SW.
Absolutely! I did SW for a few years and looking back I was the same - 'on plan' 90% of the time (weigh day was a Mon so starved myself all weekend) and then booking two weeks off for a "holiday" in the summer. It was like giving myself two weeks to enjoy whatever I wanted, when really food should always be enjoyable, 365 days a year!

I've always lurked on this thread but never posted. Hi!

Any positive slimming world stories where the way of eating has changed previous bad habits for good?
I agree that it does make you cook more from fresh.
But on the other hand, the labelling foods good and bad and synning things ect outweighs that for me.

Noo she isn't. Mags won't be following SW, because she knows its a con.
She isn't eating quark and iceland sausages.
She's sat in the med drinking champagne and eating the finest steaks and seafood funded by the weekly fivers of fatties.
No longer a fiver is now £5.95. A bloody rip off for standing on a set of scales to be told are you disappointed only getting 1lb off this week. lol

I found out loads of stuff in lockdown.
A slimming world consultant leaked training stuff on the internet. That calorie counting makes folk fat lmao 🤣
Loads of other stuff.
My £6 a week goes in a jar and mounts up its now spent on clothes or getting my nails 💅 done.

I've just posted about this, it's bizarre isn't it!
Things like this happen far too often even just where I live. Seeing how some children can be these days having no respect for anyone or anything and then becoming adults I do fear for anyone who just gives the wrong look or makes the wrong comment. I don’t follow him but as a human I hope he recovers mentally not just physically.

I’m just curious , I do have a large account.

what’s the difference from using slimming world hashtags where you are putting your own personal photos out there for thousands and thousands to see who also follow that hashtag to having a company re-share it onto their own insta stories
No one cares you have a 'large account'.
The difference is consent.

Anyone else see Loving Lauren address what was said here about her rejoining SW and having an ED? She justified it by saying "as far as she is aware she isn't classed as having an *active* ED". Anyone else think that she's completely deluding herself here? She's clearly still very, very unwell. I feel like this will end really badly for her.
