If Starmer doesn't go then surely we are facing the oblivion of a Reform 'government' made up of wastrels, failures and useful idiots with no political nous or experience. If Starmer remotely loved his country he would fall on his sword to give someone else a chance who might vaguely listen to the population and have time to redraw the lines and ideas with enough time to get things moving prior to the next election cycle begins.

Thoughts on this -
1) he doesn't love his country as all evidence has proven
2) Rayner would be awful as she won't listen either
3) Burnham needs a seat and would likely even lose a safe seat by election at this point.
4) we are doomed.

Point 3 is the most worrying bit - he's literally their only hope, based on polling. I firmly believe he would have won Gorton and Denton, lots of people stayed away from the polls as a protest at his blocking. The act of Starmer preventing his candidacy actively pushed people to Reform, and now all GM seats look very difficult to win for him.

But he's the only leadership contender with national name recognition - polling shows that he is the only one that is popular amongst the general public. He wins every council ward in GM - he got over 60% of the vote in the last Mayoral, the second placed candidate got 10%.

He is literally all they've got, and most of them know it.

Fair to say being a regional mascot is different to running the country. I suspect that net favourability will soon be tumbling into the negatives if he did indeed mannouvre his way to PM.

Popularity in a region is not a mandate for a country.

Again, polling shows he's the most popular of the potential candidates by a mile. No one else even polls positively, let alone comes close to his popularity. That's why he's frontrunner to be next leader, notwithstanding the fact he isn't even an MP.

Keir Starmer had a mandate from the country, and he's rit at being Prime Minister, that's how it goes.

I remember back to the heady summer of 2024 when I dragged myself to the polling station thinking 'at least Starmer will be boring, might be quite relaxing, John Major type'. And yet here we are again.

To toast his departure, yes. However, not to toast Burnham or Rayner. I've lived through the 70's, be bloody careful what you wish for.

Agree. To use his favourite word, it would force a reset, however Labour would lose.(Manifesting madly here!) Burnham ain't the messiah they think, Reform and the Greens ate into Manchester.If a Mayoral election was forced to happen, Labour could lose that as well.

He has a spiteful nature unfortunately as evidenced during the Southport incidents when people were very upset.
