Sir Keir Starmer #3

I doubt whether Sir Keir will be finishing work at 6pm tonight to be at home for his Friday Night Dinner with the family..

I think he really is on thin ice if it's discovered that he knew about Mandelson's lurid history with Epstein. If so then the Deputy Leader contest may move up a level.
I think he absolutely knew. I also think Mandelson has something on Starmer which is why he went against the advice to put him in as envoy in the first place.

I think that’s a possibility, but unlikely. I really think it’s Trump. He’s such a snowflake and so easily offended, I think that appointing Mandelson (who like Trump is as dodgy and sleazy as they get and connected to their mutual friend Epstein) was a calculated gamble to appease him. Obviously it was a gamble that failed, and a thoroughly flawed decision, but I think that’s what it was.

I actually think Starmer appointed Mandelson because Mandelson genuinely had the skills to be a good ambassador. In that he's good at a-kissing, bringing networks together and getting what he wants out of people. Being an ambassador has a decent measure of the dark arts in it, and always has done. At all times, and in all civilisations. Remember Machiavelli and 'The Mirror of Princes'? Yep. He knew the score.

The problem is that the very same personal qualities that made Mandelson a good choice are also the qualities that make him a snake. Nothing about that is new - he's been like that ever since the Hinduja Affair (and his multiple scandals thereafter).

I also think that Starmer appointed Mandy cos he's scared. To be presiding over a failing Government just a year after winning a clear majority in GE is almost unprecedented. It's pitiful. So, I can see why Starmer wanted the comfort of one of the originators of New Labour, a man who's seen it all.

But Starmer should've known better than to think a leopard can change its spots (or a snake can change its scales?). So now the Mandy appointment is just yet another piece of evidence of Starmer's appalling lack of political judgement. And the fact that he can't seem to keep an adviser or colleague in post for more than 5 minutes without them resigning in scandal, walking out in disgust or bursting into tears on the job.

Like the Turks say, the fish rots from the head. In this case the head has a ginormous chin and is the son of a toolmaker.

The sad fact is that after just 14 months you could make a very strong case that Starmer is even worse than Boris. It’s a literal tit show.
But is he better or worse than a lettuce? That's the real, burning question!

I want to know what Mandelson has on all of them, is he some kind of Epstein-like, Machiavellian figure that has dirt on all of them and they know it?
Also, how did he become so rich? I vaguely remember in the 90s some scandal about someone "lending" him 100s of grand to buy a house... which I had friends like that, lol! 😄 🤣

The man's pure sleaze. Ideal for a cosy relationship with Trump but how low will Starmer stoop to ingratiate himself with a corrupt President in order to win plaudits from voters.

These trade deals haven't been signed yet anyway.

He's not as bad as Johnson who was corrupt and taking handouts from all sorts of dubious contacts.

He's politically naive and out of his depth in the murky world of political shenanigans.

The very first thing Starmer did was fess up to taking handouts. Come on. Just because he did it in the form of clothes, glasses and free accommodation at Lord Ali’s flat doesn’t mean it isn’t as bad as anyone else.

Now granted I'm just a self-educated retired manual worker, that is a humble member of the Bigoted Gammonry whom our Elites hate and despise so much...but even I know that you don't get to slither to the top of the greasy and corrupt pole of the legal profession (Dickens was bang on about lawyers btw) and become DPP if you're politically naive. Some of the stuff that would've come across his desk would've been inherently political (the evidence relating to Savile and the grape gangs for example) and he made executive decisions regarding those.

Similarly, one does not get to be leader of the inherently corrupt and crony-ridden parliamentary Labour party without being pretty damn politically astute. Do you know what the NEC is like? Remember all the 2017 shenanigans? Sod that. remember Wilson and Mandelson vs Prescott? The NEC makes the snake pit at London Zoo look like a bed of roses. And Starmer defanged it in, what, 4 months?

Starmer got into power by promising entirely different things to the Leftists and the centrists in his party. You can't keep up that sort of double dealing for long if you're politically naive.

Starmer is highly skilled in the dark arts of political back biting, cronyism, deceit and disingenuous mollification. His problem is that he doesn't have any principles and his strategic decision making is jaw-droppingly poor. Oh, yeah, and he has a strange and inexplicable tendency to make fragrant young eastern european men jolly cross with him.

I think the one thing Starmer is not is politically naive. He's out of his depth for sure but its not due to naivety, hes been in and around politics his whole life. As for corrupt I think hes actually worse than Johnson, sadly corruption runs very deep in our political system. There is something very dark and sinister within Starmer.

OK. I'm not going to argue with these views as I have no idea how he conducts himself behind closed doors.

At least he's not Trump and maybe the UK should be grateful for that.

I'm not "grateful" in the slightest. He and his Cabinet have made a series of wrong-footed and damaging political decisions especially over the eocnomy. In an era where we desperately need to drive growth, the NIC increase is destroying small and medium sized businesses which are the lifeblood of our economy. 95% of UK businesses employ <10 people.

I acknowledge that I am merely a member of the benighted Gammonry and therefore my views can be discounted as emanating from a bigoted mind, but I do feel that we might reasonably expect more from our elected Government than to be told we should simply feel dumb bovine gratitude that our Prime Minister isn't another individual from another country.

I have no idea how he conducts himself behind closed doors.

Me neither but I expect that the Bulgarian twinks brickies will tell us at their trial next month lol

Ok..I don't want to antagonise you with my puerile views. I hope you have a good day.

I don’t think your view is puerile at all! A little simplistic, perhaps, as whataboutery tends to be. Especially when comparing apples and oranges, as comparisons between the US and UK tend to be. Their political system is much more representative and democratic than FPTP and President & Prime Minister are very different roles. But, like Plato, I believe that every view is valid in our search for the truth. (That’s about all I agree with the oligarch loving, democracy despising Plato on.)

One thing we can potentially both agree on is that Chinny will find some new and exciting way to duck up today. After the omnishambles of the past week/month/year, you might think it’s impossible for him to find yet another way to duck up, but I have faith in the lad and am confident he’ll find a way.

Sadly I agree. This is so resonant of the Johnson years when the party wanted him gone, it was leak after leak after leak, so im.pretty sure today's news isnt going to be great for Starmer. Chinny is a great name I might adopt that

Oh yeah he's toast, you've got that many people briefing against him on the record, he's done.

Depends on how the May elections go, I grew up in South Wales valleys, deindustrialised, left behind, the diseases of despair (alcoholism, drug addiction, obesity, suicidality, depression) were all around me, I fell into a few of 'em myself in fact. But it was STILL Labour voting across the board and has been since the Labour Pary was invented, now however Reform is on the march, trust me if Reform can win the South Wales Valleys then Labour as a whole is toast. They'll lose it like they lost Scotland and suddenly the way back to parliamentary majority looks v rocky.

Strange times we live in, time a great seismic change. The Elites cannot accept this as they have done well out of the gravy train and desperately want it to continue. Hence all the gammon/bigot/far right racist rhetoric. The last desperate cries of a collapsing hegemony.

Chinny is a great name I might adopt that

I'm working on a private hypothesis that Starmer has got a Pinocchio type of situation going on, in that his chin grows larger the more he ducks up at his job. I'm still in the evidence gathering stage, when the results are in I'll let you know :ROFLMAO:

You are spot on. If they lose Wales then they are done. I live in a traditional 'blue' wall area, where up until the last election, almost always voted Tory. Neither Tories nor Labour will count for anything at the next election. Those of us who have usually voted Tory are much more likely to vote Reform next time.

Guido has just said that Phase 3 might be wrapped up by Friday, which I take to mean Chinny's resignation, with lots more to come out and Guido usually has finger on the pulse
