Yeay! All the gorgeous animals thread! I am so here for this!!
@tilly27 I tried to post a comment in the AE thread and I pressed preview again coz I'm a numpty! I love your nicknames for your animals!
This is my IndestructoCob so called because until he had a fluke catastrophic field accident he was never sick or sorry. I was totally ruined when I lost him
His real name was Loki and although he lived up to his name as a bit of a mischief, he was mainly such a laid back dude! Great with kids and novices, could go like the wind for experienced riders and would do anything you asked of him, was so lucky with this guy! I swear he was part mountain goat/Houdini too from the amount of times he climbed the dry stone dyke to escape the field and come say hello to the folks on the yard
This is not the best photo I've got but it makes me laugh because I'd taken about 6 pics already and he was getting fed up with me calling his name for pretty faces "seriously mum are you not done yet? Ffs this is taking all day, lets go out already!"
After losing him I really struggled and wasn't planning on any further pets because I didn't think I'd cope with the loss. Then this guy
came to me because he had no where else to go, it kind of seems like fate now because he's turned out to be my dog of a lifetime and has saved me from quite a dark emotional place. I couldn't be without him now! He's my snuggle monster!
Because of his size and breed(s he's a mix) a lot of people give him a wide berth which he finds indescribably sad because he really, really loves people! It makes his day if someone stops to give him a cuddle, in particular children. He used to live with two boys and he really misses zooming around with them like loonies, it's the only time I'm likely to be literally dragged up the street is if he sees one of his boys! We are lucky because we get to see them around fairly regularly, it's nice for them to still be able to see him and he clearly loves them to bits!
He was very nervous when he came to me, the man in home life beat him
so he didn't like his face or behind his shoulders to his bum being touched, he would cringe and twitch away
Now he asks for butt scritches, shoves his schnoz into your/anyones hand to say pet me please and you can touch his back/sides without any flinching or skin twitches! He's learnt to not worry around the house and will even now give little playful growls when we play tug of war!
Sadly the only downside to this bundle of joy is that he is not dog friendly to random dogs. It's not his fault, he wasn't socialised as a pup in his first home and it's left him very anxious with strange dogs, which spills over into aggression if he isn't afforded looooads of space
I've had him for 2 years now and he's coming on really well with this and now has some doggy friends he gets on great and will play happily with
Hoping to reach our goal of being able to walk past other dogs at close quarters by the end of next year, so far we've gone from spotting dogs at any distance away and leaping barking scariness to some whining and the occasional bark and lunge up to around 20ft away - it's slow going but worth it! Some days we don't react to dogs at all! I'm so proud of him!
And just because I love her and miss her, my old collie Poppy when she was in her prime. Technically my mums dog, but trained by moi and quite honestly the easiest dog we ever had as a family. Always shouted hello "Awoooooo-ooo-ooooooh!" to people she was excited to see and obsessed with tennis balls! You can't see it in this pic but she has gorgeous orangey eyes, I always said she has a foxes face, complete with the pretty eyes
Sorry
not sorry for the epic post, told you I'd talk about my boy till your ears fell off!
