Boss #1 just gave us a big fright by vomiting up a massive hair ball which is 1st hair ball in the 9 months we've had her, which is impressive to me cos she is long haired, although I do try to brush her daily. But biggest fright was because there was a long white worm in the vomit moving around! 🙀 So vet appointment has been made.
Her sister, Boss #2 vomited up worms a few months ago and we brought her to vet to get checked, and we got both of them medicine for it. Boss #2 got tablets and Boss #1 got the stuff that goes on back of neck which mustn't of been enough. Anyways we'll tell all to the vet and get stuff for both of them.
Wounder if we should take some too, idk, google says humans only get them if we eat the eggs....I wipe the counters down with vinegar each morning so hopefully that is effective.

Ugh, worms are the absolute worst thing. My idiot boy had a couple of phases of having them, possibly due to his eating (half eating) the mice he catches, and it properly freaked me out. I found though that the back of the neck stuff (Bravecto?) did work but wore off after about four months. I now have an tube of it in case of an emergency. Hope the vet will sort things out for you.

I find the tablets (albeit a huge hassle to feed them) work better than thr drops for worms. My little boy often brings in mice so it's something I'm very careful with 🤢

It's bit strange cos about 6 month ago, Boss #2 vomited up a worm (or 2) and we got her to the vets. Vet gave her a tablet, 1 then and another a couple weeks after. Her gave us the gel stuff for back of neck on Boss #1 cos with her being a bit feral we were worried about the tablet causing her stress, and us....
Now they are both inside cats. In the 9 months we have had them, they are inside only. Tbh we don't even open windows and haven't noticed any flies around, although perhaps we've not noticed any bc they've took care of them super fast  I asked the vet if they could of had them since before we got them, when they were outside stray/feral kitties. She said not likely bc they would of showed signs well before this in the litter and vomiting, which they haven't. Although Boss #2 has always had a little bit of a pot belly which I've found odd bc she doesn't really each that much to have 1, but husband said maybe she is just very muscley from her surviving outside before.
So the vets didn't have any of the tablets at moment cos of supply issues but did a gel on back of neck and gave us 1 for Boss #2 too. Next in couple weeks we are to go back and hopefully get a tablet for each. They said we should do it monthly for 3 months and then I think every 6 months ongoing.
We also got a litter analysis which strangely showed no sign of worm eggs but vet said it could be false negative or there just weren't any in this particular sample. So we are thinking of doing it again for both in couple weeks, just to be sure.
I just really hope this clears up all this and they feel better. Boss #2 was so exhausted after the vet visit. She doing better today, she is running away from me again 😒 I was hoping getting this sorted would make her feel so much better that she would become a lap cat...maybe after 2nd dose of treatment 🤷‍♀️

I closed both bedroom doors earlier to keep the downstairs warm.

Jimmy was very outraged when he (eventually, after several hours of sleeping) found out about it.

I had to open the doors for him once again.

Bless him, but he got himself into a right state as he couldn't decide which bedroom to check on first, so stood there moving his head from one door to the other for about 10 seconds before diving into the spare bedroom, going "All good" and then diving into the main bedroom.

We've just had a visiting dog: a young tall lanky grasshopper type of dog; and an 8yo gorgeous human who loves cats.

My cat deserves all the bravery awards and is deemed to have received a High Distinction in dealing with challenging clients and providing a rewarding client experience. I'm both amused and very proud

Hi new to this group, im a crazy cat lady with 5 cats. 3 tuxedo cats, one tortoise shell and one all black. Im just after advice regarding the dreaded fleas! They are de-flead every 4 weeks, ive used every product on the market, had people out to spray the house and they are still rampant 😩 im going to take them to vets to get a stronger dose that last 3 months. Just wondered if anyone else has this issue? I am washing everything they can get onto such as bedding, cushions, kids soft toys etc. On a 90 degree wash. It's a never ending cycle.

Hi and welcome! I'm a big fan of Tuxies, they're so sweet.

As for the flea thing the only way I've found to really stop fleas is keeping the cats indoors. Impractical, I know!

Years ago I found that my housemates girlfriend was bringing fleas in with her from her own pets, O had to sequester the cats in a spare room and flea bomb the house.
I hope you find a solution x

Definitely get the prescription stuff from the vets. Keel spraying the house and hoovering. Hoover before spraying it as well. Spray the car after taking them to the vets (and carriers etc)

Hello!

Fleas are dreadful, I've certainly been there. Awful for you all.

This may be of interest:

Diatomaceous Earth: Lightly sprinkle food-grade diatomaceous earth on your carpets. This natural powder kills fleas by dehydrating them. Leave it for 24-48 hours, then vacuum.

In conjunction with all other pesticides on cat and inhouse, not just on its own

Good luck

Hi and a very warm welcome. I have 2 cats one who's allergic to most chemical treatments. Luckily I'm retired so spend and hour am and pm combing them using a nit comb. Luckily they enjoy it that said I appreciate you may not have the time to do this but wish you luck with your endeavours to be rid of the wee beasties.

Thats what I've been doing most days and managed to get rid of quite a few. Where the cats are sitting there is flea dirt left behind so we definitely had an infestation. I have just spoke to vets and they want to do a health check and weight which is £44 per cat and the treatment is £50 per cat, so looking at over £500. Im on mat leave at the moment so this is not something I can afford, especially with chriatmas just gone by and paying a fortune on my car which failed it's MOT. Im desperate now as its not nice for everyone, especially the cats. Just stuck on what other options I have in regards to getting a stronger dose.

Gosh that's so expensive! Every time (for those of us in the uk anyway) I hear about vet bills I'm just reminded how glad I am we have the NHS for people

I heard using dish soap to wash the cats (I know that sounds terrifying, def get 1st aid supplies for the scratches!) & the flea comb to get them out of the fur. Apparently the dish soap paralyses the fleas. And then also the flea tablet to kill them.
I wounder if you could also use the gel that goes on the neck too, maybe the type for fleas and worms. It'd be like double dosing?
Apparently fleas can survive for months without a host!

I highly recommend indorex spray for the home and furnishings. It can't be sprayed on the cats and everyone needs to stay out the room with the door closed for a couple of hours, but its amazing. Do a room at a time, and use it at the same time as the cats get treated.

My angel boy is getting neutered today. I’m going to struggle to keep him inside I think 😵💫
