How vocal are everyone's cats? Cleo is an absolute screamer. I reckon she was a town crier in her last life. Hungry? Cries. Litter tray needs done? Cries. It's never ending 🤣
I have two, little boy is soooo loud.miaows for any situation, good or bad, but very silent almost purring. Sister instead almost never miaows unless she wants her litter tray cleaned 😆 never knew other cats did that too 😅 but purrs like a lawn mower 😅

Well one of mine can't really meow so he just waves his paws and goes brrr. The other one meows a lot! It all balances itself out i guess 🤣
This is the cutest thing ever 🥰. Last year my talkative little boy went missing for a month. He came back (thank god) but he'd obviously been stuck somewhere as he'd almost lost his little voice. Heartbreaking for me to think whatbhed been through but thank godnhe came back (and quickly retained his loud voice 😅)

The stress of my cats will be the death of me 🤣
Probably haven't mentioned here but i teach English as a foreign language to adults. One of my students has recently got a cat havjng never had one before(long story I won't go into) but I've been giving advice, obviously. The most hilarious thing (among many tbh) this week: she'd never heard a cat purr and was totally confused 😅 she came in with an audio recording of it asking me what it meant 🤣🤣🤣 everyone else in class understood it immediately (all former or current cer owners) and once we'd explained it she just said "but why?" 😅😅😅😅

That is the sweetest thing! I can imagine how weird it would be to hear that rumbling noise coming out of a little cat hahaha

Mt other cats just vocal is she's annoyed for example if she accidentally escapes as she's usually indoor only and it rains so she comes back inside meowing and soaking wet.

Hello! I know @MaineCoonMama and @emm from other threads. I've often joked over on Food and Drink (which is about 1% food, 2% drink, 60% cats the rest life) that my cat doesn't receive nearly enough attention so I took this photo of my little mate, who is made, I think, of leftover parts of other cats plus some carpet and was quite feral when I adopted him. His name is Dill, after the friend in To Kill a Mockingbird, who was a great friend but often slightly off stage

On current topic, he hardly meows at all because he didn't know how and my now RIP cat had to teach him

Yay, Dill Harris! I think you found him in the collard greens like Jem and Scout in the book.

I love him, he's a majestic and beautiful boy 💕

Jimmy is fairly quiet. Lots of purring but rarely 'talks' to me. Although, he talks plenty in his sleep, lots of muttering and little cries like "I said no! Put it back now!" type of outbursts.

A previous cat never shut up. We used to have conversations she was so vocal. Like a feline Hilda Ogden she was. Constantly nagging at me and telling me what's what.

When you ring cats protection (not sure if I’ve mentioned it before🤭)when you contact cats protection and you hold for awhile, they have cats purring and meowing,so much better that music.🤣

I was thinking about my cats different noises last night, as she has a "voice" for every occasion.

Loud meow when she announces her arrival

A snort if she doesn't like the food I've put down for her

A sort of questioning and constant meow when she's fetched something in for me (yuk)

And a loud purr when she's trying to butter me up! 😂

Our Thor has a really croaky voice. He also meows under his breath like all you hear is a bit of air. Oh, he does what I call a 'happy grumble' when he's getting the good pats.

He's the strangest combo of angry Dwarf whose treasure and wife has been stolen, and graceful fun-filled theatrical Elf. He cost AUD29 (literally on special!) from the animal shelter and, of course, I love him.

Long live all your cats: they have his axe and his bow 😽

Cleo can happily sit and cry all day. She has different cries for different things. When she's tired it's a low deep one and then she can go very high pitched. Even if she's sick she screams so I know what's happening! She's very chatty. Definitely for the attention 🤣

My 'Hilda Ogden' cat had one cry that I loved.

"Mee-Yom" Which was "I've said all I'm going to say on the matter and let that be an end to it."

So far, Jimmy is only really upset when going to the vet as he shouts the place down. Otherwise, he has a cranky toddler "Wah, s'not fair" whinge when he doesn't get his own way or an "I am very upset and in distress, really I am honest!" cry which doesn't fool me a bit as it is nothing like his 'vet' one and he's only doing it to get my attention.

New to the thread :)

My sweet girl P is so chatty. Before us, she'd always been around other cats in abundance as the foster had two other cats and she came from a cat rescue which housed around 20 others cats at the time. She was super vocal when she first moved in and we assumed she was calling for the other cats but it's never really stopped.

She'll tell me off if I leave stuff too close to her scratching post or toys and can't get them out of somewhere and she greets us when we walk in the room. She also speaks to us in a kind of "are you guys here?" kind of way but some of these sound super sad! After googling I've been assured that these aren't actually sad but it still never feels any nicer 😂

We left her with a catsitter when we went on holiday and she's developed this habit of sitting on the side of our cotton-y sofa and then grabbing it in her teeth lightly but enough to pull threads. Has anyone had this before and did anything work to redirect this behaviour? She's got plenty blankets and a basket that came with her from the foster she can sit in but is choosing not to in the last few weeks but we think this may be due to the heat? She used to make biscuits in the basket and would sometimes bite the corner but she's defo not making biscuits when she chews the sofa, she's just laying there. I bought her a Kong pull-apartz toy which has velcro she can pull with her teeth so hoping this works for her!

First off welcome! The Kong toy is a good start, you could also distract her with other toys.

Something that's always worked for me is a quick spray from a simple spray bottle and a stern 'No!'
It might sound mean but it's harmless and they quickly learn that they don't like being sprayed.
All I need to do now is pick up a vaguely bottle-shaped item and my cats quit mucking around straight away.
