Hi all - I have had an issue with ny scalp and for over 3 months now.
I have always had very great thick hair which I would only have to wash and style 1 time maybe 2 times a week.
The past 3 months my scalp has became very oily and itchy to the point where I wash my hair and the root still feels oily. My hair is now very limp and I cannot style it at all. My scalp has patches which look yellowish and when I scratch my head there is a yellow gunk on my nail (sorry). My hair also feels really thin now and tuggy I feeling like Im loosing some but I dont know if its because its so oily and limp!

I have tried the over the counter shampoos (3 types) as well as trying to cleanse my scalp.

has this ever happened to anyone else or any idea what could be going on?
Im getting married soon so its starting to really get to me ;(

thank you

Hmmm so I’m no expert but this doesn’t sound like a shampoo issue I think you need to see a GP, it sounds like an issue with your skin and you may need treatment

It sounds like psoriasis or dermatitis! Defo get yourself to the gp, they will have seen it before and you’ll be able to get a topical treatment to sort it out. Over the counter shampoos are a waste of time for something like that I would have thought! Hope you get it sorted ☺

Thank you! I think you are rite!x

I don’t think it’s psoriasis because that tends to be white and flaky and very itchy, not yellow and oily as you have described.
Have you asked your hairdresser as they’ve probably seen most scalp conditions so would know if it needs a prescription or is more cosmetic?

Sounds nasty, I word with your Doctor would be the best thing to do right now.

I believe adults can get a version of cradle cap that babies get, would explain the oily yellow patches!

Sounds like it might be sebhorreic dermatitis (I probably spelt that wrong!)
I had been googling and this kept coming up!

There is a shampoo called Selsun which might be worth trying, particularly as GPs aren't always seeing people right now. It's definitely a treatment and not a beauty product.
