Great post and agree with everything you said, apart from I think it was less “got lucky” and more “shagged Jay Z” that got her started. Her performance was underwhelming. My bar is low for Rihanna but she gave even less than I imagined.
Rihanna is a pretty girl who got lucky, then rode it 'til the wheels fell off.
I don't think she's delusional and knows that she has limited talent. She understood she was a product and then finessed it for her riches.
She's never given a f-ck about her stage show. There's little discernable difference in her performance skills since she debuted. Why bother improving when her Navy will still kiss her ass and make excuses?
Her appeal has always been aesthetic and she acknowledges that she took off after her haircut. Then her fashion looks (when she had a decent stylist). She has a good way with the camera though, would be a decent model as she's tall. People just fell in love with her personality and unpolished carefree vibe.
I don't see the logic in accepting the Superbowl performance if she's not returning to music and extending her maternity leave. (I think it's mean to string her fans along although I don't see what they see in her).
I'd have rather seen Usher (legend with residency to promote). Taylor Swift would have made more sense as she has new material although she's not my cup of tea. Of the new crop Lizzo or Doja Cat could have put on a better show.
You might need to rewatch it and count againThe performance had so much potential. She barely sang, the dancers looked ridiculous, the choreography was terrible and she performed maybe two of her old classics. The entire thing needed replanning.
What classics were missing? The performance had so much potential. She barely sang, the dancers looked ridiculous, the choreography was terrible and she performed maybe two of her old classics. The entire thing needed replanning.
I’m not the OP but I would have liked to have heard Don’t Stop the Music, S&M and Pon De ReplayWhat classics were missing?
Disturbia and S.O.S for meI’m not the OP but I would have liked to have heard Don’t Stop the Music, S&M and Pon De Replay
Disturbia, Please Don’t Stop The Music, SOS, Pon De Replay, Shut Up And Drive. Too many to fit in but I would’ve liked a few more. What classics were missing?
I did, and I came to the same conclusion. Umbrella and Run This Town. I consider 'old' to be anything before the Loud album. You might need to rewatch it and count again
Where in my comment did I claim it was a Rihanna concert? I commented my thoughts on Rihanna’s setlist on Rihanna’s thread.Rihanna has about 40 hit singles so there was always going to be something missing in a 13 minute set.
It was an interval act at a sports game, not a Rihanna concert.
To be fair - Wild Thoughts is a DJ Khaled song ft Rihanna and All of the Lights is Kanye ft Rihanna.Run this town isn't even a Rihanna song its Jay-z ft Rihanna.
It doesn't make a difference - just expanding on a point a previous poster madeWhat difference does it make?
She sung on all of those songs and even if she didn’t - covers are allowed too.
