I couldn't ever see myself living in England for one reason - the Sunday trading laws. In Scotland, unless you're in Highlands, Scotland is just another day. Supermarkets open all day, shops open all days.

I can't my head round shops closing at 4pm. And I've never understood why English shops open on New Years day but close on Easter Sunday.

People joke with me that I should buy a holiday home in Blackpool. But even if I had the money I wouldn't do it. I have too many concerns about locals being priced out of the housing market.

Edinburgh is a nightmare for this.

I remember when shops didn’t open at all on Sunday. It’s similar in parts of Spain. So that people can have a bit of quality family time or leisure time . I don’t mind it .

Blackpool as you may know, isn’t exactly a shining example of beautiful England.

Aw I like listings like this. A very well loved house from that generation that made things last and 'made did and mended'. With a house like that you'd be looking at a full gut job, so I don't blame the (assuming elderly owner) in not being able to deal with the expense or stress of bringing it up to date.

My Grandma used to collect bears. Something either from the Mail on Sunday supplements or whatever other tat came with the Innovation catalogue orders she made. She was so easily convinced that things would become collector's items. She paid Royal Mail for all the first day covers for about 60 years and new coins in the Royal Mint collectors packs. And then these.bloody bears. When she died and my sister was helping clear the house she boxed up about 70 bears and brought them back to me as my kids might like them. Bless her my grandma was convinced that Teddy McBearson or whoever would be worth something as only 500 were made. The reason only 500 were made is because only 500 are made enough to pay £50 for a teddy bear wear a kilt and tam o'shanter with a thistle on it.
I've still got all the bears in a box in my loft along with a dozen folders of first day covers going back to however long ago. I better decide what to do with them before I get old and my house ends up on Tattle in 2058.

Absolutely beautiful on the outside. I imagine it’s terribly dark on the inside, hence all the white, but they really have ripped out the poor cottage’s soul.
