Really bad posture

I've always had bad posture - my mother has been warning me about this my whole life
Only recently it's started to really bother me - aesthetically and pain-wise
Any tips on how to improve posture?

A chiropractor, would be my first choice.

You need to know for sure exactly what your problems are, and if doctors can't tell you then a chiropractor will.

You tube have some good chiropractor advice videos. I get pain across the shoulders because of poor posture and the exercise tips and advice I found on there has helped improve things.
For example one tip was to lay on your back in the bed and without pillows. Took a while to get used to but I definitely found it a help. I couldn't read in bed in that position though so I might lay on my side with a pillow while reading but when I feel myself dropping off I dump the pillow and turn on my back.

A well fitting bra . My posture is tit but it's way worse when I don't have a bra on . The Boob or Bust website is full of good advice and most people wear a band that is too big.

Obviously there's probably more to consider than that , but it can be a factor , and it's a self help step.

Improving your back and core muscles through weight training and the gym really helps. Also a chiropractor if you’re in real pain. I think I’m going to have to look at a chiropractor too - my posture has got really bad since WFH!

Possibly controversial but I think chiropractors are a load of tit, hence why you'd never get it on the NHS.

I'd say it's worth seeing a physiatrist who will no doubt give some exercises. Although if you're broke lookup some core exercises and do what feels good.

Hunched over a laptop all day will really duck your back up. So many have issues now they're not working in an ergonomic office space.

Core muscles always help. My core is still quite weak after pregnancy, my boy is one, but I became very lazy and am now working on it. Staying aware that I am to tilt my pelvis slightly in, rather than throw it back as I have been.

I have recently purchased a back brace. It is to be worn for an hour or more each day. It certainly makes me aware of my posture the entire time I have it on, so I am guessing it "trains" you back into good posture. I will have to let you know how it goes. But so far so good.

For correcting forward neck. Now quite common with all the tech use, etc. There are several really good exercises on YouTube. Just look up "correcting forward neck".

See an actual physical therapist, not a chiropractor (chiropractic is pseudoscience/quackery). I have really bad swayback posture and I see a physical therapist who tailors exercises and stretches for my specific body issues. Improving your core strength can be very important to improve and maintain good posture.

I’d avoid a chiropractor as well. Once I started seeing an osteopath and a muscular skeletal therapist any back problems I had have never come back. It was all due to my hips rather than back and the way I stood and carried myself in general. All the contracted muscles were released and I was given tailored exercises. Hope that helps
