Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. I too like many others presumed that the mortgage was cleared when Daniel passed as would be the case in these dreadful situations.
Firstly let me note that I’ve worked in Banking my entire career so mortgages and life cover are part of my every day.
On either a Q&A or live chat a number of months back someone referred to the mortgage situation and Rachel advised that they had no mortgage as they hadn’t yet taken one out at the time of Daniel’s diagnosis, I know well from work they wouldn’t have got one post his illness because as previously noted life cover would’ve been required which would now not be possible.
For anyone thinking it’s unusual to have started a build without a mortgage it absolutely is not, especially in a case like this where they had significant funds from the sale of the first house.
Rachel shared their first home a while back, it was a really nice family bungalow, which she noted they made a very good profit on the sale. She has also noted that they lived with her in-laws when building and the site they’ve built on was family owned.
Also it would appear that Daniel and his father did a lot of the work on the house which also saves a fortune. All of these factors would save tens of thousands when building.

So in this case it appears that this couple like so many others used the funds from the sale of their first home to build this one, this is completely the norm. To add insult to injury the poor man was diagnosed before the mortgage had been applied for, which is just horrendous.

Also it’s important to note that in that she also stated that many had asked about setting up a ‘go fund me’ for her but she was at pains to say no. And referred to a previous one which had been closed. I remember looking it up and think it was about 30K.
For people still wondering as to how they managed to finish the house, perhaps they had separate life cover or cover/pension from work. Either way it’s not really any of our business. For me I find rye girl to be extremely genuine and all that she said made complete sense. I saw this week her father in law was doing the work going on at the moment. It really makes such a difference when you have that support from family and friends and saves literally tens of thousands. I’m sure she’d give her beautiful home up in a heartbeat to have her husband back.
No doubt Rachel could have given the nod to set up another ‘go fund me’ and no doubt it’d have done exceptionally well. The fact that she was so against this really cemented my belief in her being genuine. So good luck to her and her insta page, why not, at least she puts an effort into it where as many who are at it years don’t. I wouldn’t wish what she’s going through on anyone.

She’s the only one I would say that I hope she gets lots of sponsored work so that she can be at home with her kids. Can’t even imagine the worry and stress of providing for 3 young children on your own especially when her late husband was the breadwinner. The kids need her at home after what they have been through and it’s all so recent.

@Hearforthegoss Rachel is a grown woman and knows better,,,, she is a mam before anything else, no way in hell would I put my kids at risk never mind anyone else. The number of cases in the North is shocking and she along with the other "influncers" didn't give a shite.

I lost my partner to a brain tumour when I was 22 with a young baby,, no way in hell would I risk his health my family or mine for a few likes on the Internet..

I am disgusted, and I cannot believe that a woman with 3 small kids, who has firsthand seen what hospital staff do and have done for sick people, who had an extremely high risk vulnerable husband herself when he was alive could be so selfish and so irresponsible in her actions to go to Belfast and be a part of this shit show. Talk about shitting all over every fucking front line worker that has risked their families lives by going to work every fucking day for the last 7 months. How dare she or any of them. But for her to have first hand knowledge of palliative care and cancer treatments and still go and contribute to this disgusting event, risking so may peoples lives. This is life and fucking death..... This is spreading this disease that's can and has killed people. People are dying. Every single one of those brats should be reported to the guards, and fined.... Something has to happen with this complete disregard for vulnerable people in our society and healthcare staff bursting themselves and risking their lives to care for people with covid. I will never buy another bperfect product again or support anything she promoted. I am appalled.

So her husband set up the page for her called Rachel home decor and she changed it to RachelGorryx ? When she said she changed it to Rachel Gorryx , I was thinking “If my husband set up a page for me , and now he’s not here anymore , there’s no way I’d change the name , I just couldn’t , my heart would actually break even at the thought of changing it , because it’s a memory of him and I would never want to take a memory of him away “ So that really struck me as a strange thing to do , it’s just my opinion .
I was actually speaking to my husband about her story and showed him videos before, this was ages ago and I said to him “Look at this poor girl , losing her husband , my heart breaks for her , it’s absolutely awful” My husband wasn’t very convinced , he couldn’t get his head around the crying to hundreds of strangers on social media and other things, posting pics that perhaps should be private , he said “Maybe it’s for social media fame , for more followers, possibly in time cashing in on their story, don’t believe everything you see , watch in time , the true colours might show, I have a feeling she knows exactly what she’s doing ” and muggins here told him he was talking rubbish , because I felt sorry for her and I sent her a message , I lost my young brother as I mentioned before and I was trying to offer my support , but I was ignored every single time , not even an acknowledgement either , not even a tap to say she had seen it . Now I see others who have all been ignored too, but she’s well able to acknowledge the well known people and she’s well able to block people who don’t agree with her , she’s also well able to “I’d just said I’d come on , lads ye have me absolute stitches with yer messages” and sharing messages from others who are kissing her arse , people who she thinks will make her famous. She kinda makes me sick now to be honest and her going to that bperfect event . I haven’t seen my family in months , I couldn’t go to my own family members funeral , my mam can’t even be here for the birth of my baby ( who knows when her and my dad will see their grandchildren) my husband missed out on all the scans to see his baby so far . I had to go to a Fetal medicine ward for a serious , nerve wrecking procedure and my husband couldn’t come in with me , I had to go alone ... yep... on my own , because of covid . But shur fair play to Rachel , off enjoying herself in the middle of pandemic because she “deserves the night out”

I've been following her from the start and in my eyes, she hasnt put a foot wrong.
There is no manual for being a young widowed mum.
My mum was widowed very young with 3 kids to bring up. She didn't have time to hang around in widows weeds, she put her head down, worked hard to keep us and our house and did her crying at night when we were in bed.

So fucking what if rachel breaks down in tears when shes chatting to insta folk? Should her grief be hidden away like a dirty secret?
Why shouldn't she document their journey? Why shouldn't she show her husbands grave, it's his final resting place and means the world to her and their children. Why is it deemed to be offensive odd or unusual?

His parents fully support her as was evidenced when they were in a live with her. They have also been on her grid posts with her and she has said many times over that they are proud of her and treat her like a daughter.

She is making money for her kids and shouldn't be knocked for that. Her doing an ad is no different to any other widow heading in to work the beauty counter in debenhams and selling make up or working in a clothes shop selling clothes.

The girl has been dealt the most shitty of hands and yet has to deal with idiots saying shes relieved her husband is dead/isn't crying enough/is crying too much etc.

As for the video of her wee girl, I love the smell of my dads aftershave and would always gravitate to Any man I smelt it on. Grief is normal and natural. People need to stop being so British and uptight and stop getting on like they're having an attack of the vapours when a widow isn't acting like queen Victoria

Guys I think we need to put a line under all this and stop with all the giving out. Rachel made a huge mistake, she was ill advised and the people close to her should of stepped in and stopped her, unfortunately for Rachel- her mam & sister are loving all the attention so that’s never going to happen. Rachel is extremely vulnerable right now and she not the first person to make a terrible decision, I certainly don’t agree with what she done and what she does daily for insta but look at the bigger picture! I can’t help but feel for her vulnerability.
Vulnerable pull the other one rachel is well able to block anyone that has called her out if she was vulnerable she woukdnt be on sm.
If my kids were in her kids school they would not be attending for the next few weeks 934 cases in northern Ireland and she did t give two FS to that last night. How dare she my husband is vulnerable he has gone through chemo last year she seen first hand what the doctors and nurses do and also to have a funeral with no one there she should be more responsible for her actions

I first felt there was something off about her a few months ago, not long after Daniel passed away, when she shared on her stories that someone had said she should be on the Late Late Show, her followers started this little campaign and she kept sharing their stories but tagging RTÉ and Ryan Tubridy herself. She was desperate to get their attention, it was the first time I felt there was another agenda at play. Haven’t found her particularly likeable since, and I feel bad for saying it cos I do have a huge amount of sympathy for her and her daughters but it’s all been a bit too “try hard”. The silly giggling girl next door act is wearing thin, she’s obviously a smart woman so why not act like one

Loads of ppl message her and never get replied to or messages read. I used to work in hospice care and a colleague told me some patients replied and tried giving her advice before Daniel passed and she never answered. Yet she posts all the other bloggers comments. She never seemed like she wanted to take advice.
I messaged her a few weeks about my boyfriend had passed away a few years ago and put alot of Efford into it, it was like a book and I got no reply, really upset me that she put up all the posts about her opening people messages about taken the piss outta her tea but dont have time to open a message like that, she wont be long in this game, she has no cop on!

I dont have any comments on how she chooses to grieve as a person. Even though personally I feel that as a mother she should be protecting her children's privacy surrounding their own grief. They didn't choose to be in the public eye and therefore she should be conscious of the fact that while her grief is her own, and she can choose to share that however she wishes, her children are exposed to what she puts on social media and their privacy is breached when she posts some of this stuff because it is their experience being posted about too.

In terms of the Belfast trip..... wasnt Daniel's passing severely impacted by the covid restrictions? The funeral arrangements and Daniel's last days were impacted by the restrictions from what I remember and it made things very difficult for the family to grief and say their goodbyes how they wanted? And yet, here she is contributing to the need for stricter restrictions being enforced, since people can't just exercise common fucking sense without them. More families affected by covid. More loved ones passing away without their family present as a result. More kids having to say goodbye over Skype. More wives grieving without their whole family present for support.

Eaten bread is soon forgotten.

She cared about restrictions when it was affecting her family, and rightly so. She wanted people to act responsibly so that restrictions could be eased and the family could grieve together. Yet now she is happily risking other families' precious moments being stolen from them due to increased covid restrictions that will need to be introduced because of people taking the piss like this.

excuse me but cop the fuck on, if you are going to give her a pass card on this because she is going through stuff then the rest of them should be getting a pass card too.. how do you know they are not 'vulnerable' and going through shit too.. I'm sorry now but everyone is going through stuff behind closed doors it doesnt give an excuse to be a shit human being.. stop making out that she is more innocent than the rest of them.. alright we'll forgive poor rachel cos shes having a hard time but then likes of ellie and lmd etc can take all the bashing.. nah all anyone has been talking about for the last 6 months is covid 19 fucking wise up 🙄

I’ll continue to give out thanks. She’s an adult, the buck stops with her. I’m sorry for what she’s going through, but that doesn’t negate this selfish behaviour.

Rachel is that you? 😂 Lol after reading this thread. Do you actually think she’s still vulnerable?! If anything this has shown that she is very calculating and problematic she throughly is!

As you said she was ill advised - not forced to go to Belfast. She needs to fucking cop on and everyone needs to stop kissing your #ad #collab hole. She’s a mother with 3 young kids. Who decided to leave them on the 6 month anniversary to go sit on a roof top bus to live out her celebrity dream.

I had sympathy for her before and then read through this thread. Then seen the antics at Belfast and then the after party in the hotel room. She’s worse then the normal influencer. At least you know straight out they’re assholes.

Really? Il stand by it 100% what would she be if daniel didnt die?? Plain ol boring mrs gorry struggling like rest of us. She cashed in on it an uses the situation to make gains.
She plays to the audience and yer suckers for a sob story😂😂😂😂 so let's all feel sorry for rachel the only person to have ever lost a loved one 🙈🙈🙈 how many of ye lost a loved one ? Did ye take to insta fame an cry crocodile tears. I lost someone extremely close to me 3mths ago. I know what real grief is 💔💔💔

Vile. Rachel has achieved insta success because she is a beautiful and genuinely lovely girl who is clearly great craic too. She works hard and does a great job for the brands she works for. Yes, Daniels story has definitely contributed to the amount of interest and shout outs she got to build her account - but she’s very relatable, down to earth and a good laugh so I’m sure she would have done very well even if she wasn’t a widow.

She hasn’t cashed in on it, she’s taking opportunities to earn some money to support her family while she can. We all know that the influencer gig isn’t going to last forever - she’s smart to go with it while she can.

What would you want her to do? Sit at home wearing black and “mourning” in a way you feel is appropriate? Start looking for a new job that would take her away from her girls? What makes your grief more “real” than Rachel’s??

I’m absolutely delighted to see her get collabs she’s excited about but I bet any money she’d give it all back for just one more day with Daniel
