I've never understood the hate of Harry & Megan. I've always thought Harry was the double of his mother, full of empathy and just a good, all rounded guy that gets his hands dirty rather than his pampered bro will. Megan, bless her, She's mixed race but she's very light skinned (IMO, I'm mixed race and she's lighter than me) and the way the media go after her and then the comments underneath is brutal. I've read them call her "black" too which she is not. Britain does have a racism problem. Anyone that says otherwise is in denial. Its in police, healthcare and just recently came out that Fire service does too.

That c4 clip with the far right threats, and then Prince Charles withdrew security. Poor Harry had no choice but to move away and then the press spin it and make out like it's Megan's fault he's leaving. Honestly, bonkers!

I thought it was interesting that TB said that a lot of people are upset as to why he's revealing such personal stories and situations within the RF by releasing this book, and in fairness to Harry he did counter it by saying that other members of the RF have revealed just as much about himself and Meghan but just through the media to divert from bad press about themselves. They just didn't say it was from them directly.

I'm sort of smirking at the fact that it's taken the shine of William and Kates halos though, they play the game so well, but it's obvious their game face dropped when there was a culture clash of outspoken American Meghan integrating with prim and proper Kate. I would safely say I would also ask my SiL for a lend of lip gloss or joke about her baby brain. Kate is so ruthlessly schooled in how to act like a refined genteel lady that it bothered her to such a degree. Was she really threatened by Meghan? Or did she just not know how to deal with a confident woman that spoke her mind? I don't think that Kate or William have much real world street smarts, they know how to behave on walkabouts, and make smalltalk with dignitaries, but in a situation where they need to welcome a completely different sort of person into their family it was too much to keep the game face up.

Spare is now the fastest-selling non-fiction book in Penguin Random House history with 1st day sales of 1.43M in all formats across North America (1M) & the UK (400K). Spare's 1st day sales in North American of over 1M books breaks Barack Obama’s previous record of 890K.

FmOVFpjWAAIF3xW?format=png&name=large.png

In France, Spare sold out all 200,000 copies printed in French in a single day. They are publishing 50,000 more copies of Prince Harry's memoir to meet demand.

So much for 'but no one will be interested' 🙄

But on a serious note, I really REALLY hope this books helps to open up more conversations about grief, the impact of the loss of a parent on a young child, complicated family dynamics and the classic concept of the 'golden child/scapegoat'.

So sick of this ‘misogyny as humour’ crap. It’s not funny and it normalises an attitude that results in women getting murdered.
This right here is why I defend Meghan. Not coz I’m a “sugar”, not because I love her (because I don’t), but because this is fucked up and mass hate against any woman on this scale is unacceptable. Hundreds of thousands of articles a year ragging on the same woman who barely does anything. She hasn’t abused her children, she’s not a murderer. She’s just a person who married a guy. But the way people talk about her, you’d think she was Pol Pot.

I like having a discourse about the book but I loathe the ridiculous Meghan and Harry hate. The main thread is starting to become like the other one, the toxicity of it all is ridiculous.
Harry is a rapist and photos are going to come out, Meghan can’t have been wanting to kill herself because she was smiling. Good grief.

I hate how divisive it is. I had a heated debate with my mum over xmas when she brought them up. I wouldn't even call myself a Harry and Meghan fan but I can't listen to unjustified vitriol.

The subject really does bring out the worst in people.

💯💯💯

It's so utterly nasty. All the disgusting comments about narcissism and mental health...it's only going to make people who are genuinely suffering with MH issues more reluctant to open up. And the irony of having the ego to diagnose someone with grandiose narcissism when you haven't even taken a Psych 101 class or come within 100 feet of them. 🙄

I am now seeing comments on Twitter about Doria being a drug dealer and user, that $9,000,000 was funneled to her and Thomas Markle from the BRF and that is why Doria is trying to keep him away, so that she can keep all the money to herself and that she and Meghan were 'hustlers' before meeting Harry. I mean, what racism right? Also, apparently Harry is a violent rapist who beat a woman to a bloody pulp and the RF having been covering this up and the things he did 'would make Andrew look like a saint'. 😑

I just can't. This level of nastiness is pathological.

Ofc she is being called gutless and other nice things in the other thread by the usual suspects. She will never be judged kindly no matter what she does. She is literally absenting herself and they still feel the need to say something nasty. I just wish the hypocrites had the courage to admit that they just hate her and that it really isn't about her, but them.

As I said earlier, I can't imagine why she would go. This decision makes sense.
But I'm still disappointed that we won't get to see her outfit. 😅

Whew, imagine the headlines this week if he’d said “yes, my family are racist”! Those bridges really would be burned. He’s still protecting the individual who made the comment about Archie, presumably because the truth is too explosive to share, and I don’t see why that’s contradictory. One family member saying something racist doesn’t make an entire family racist, does it? I think he’s spoken enough times about how he feels it’s the media with the racism problem. I don’t see any backtracking, just a lot of people refusing to see nuance and getting swept up in the sensationalism. I think this new rhetoric that he’s unwell is verging on something quite sinister actually. What he’s said about people being radicalised by the press is ringing a little too true, so seeds are being planted that he’s mentally ill instead to protect the egos of the tabloids’ readership.

Not just on twitter, on the main thread as well. Tom Bowers wrote about Doria’s drug dealing and he would be sued if it wasn’t true.
I have been staying away from the main thread. The usual suspects were just itching for an opportunity to say the worst.

I do not mean to be dramatic here, and I am very fortunate in that I grew up in a very ethnically diverse country and so have never really dealt with racism directed at me, but as a woman of colour, these comments scare me. It feels like as with Trump in 2016, people have been just been waiting for a cause or a person to validate their hateful thoughts and now that they have it, there's all this pent-up rage bubbling over.

What will people say in 20-30 years when this is examined through a hopefully more-progressive lenses? Would they be as ashamed and stunned as some of us feel now? 😞

Thoughts on book so far?
I’ll be 100% honest, it’s still early stages but I don’t see what all the fuss is about. I’ve found it quite insightful, considering the family are like a black box, it turns out they are just as dysfunctional as the average larger family:D
He’s finally getting his say, I can understand why he’s been driven to this point. I don’t think everyone has to agree with him or praise him. That’s not what he’s looking for. It’s his truth and this book will become part of history. I can only imagine the drama it has caused at the palace :sneaky:

This.

Harrys generation of Royals are the first generation of social media where anyone with a phone can be paparazzi - every move is monitored so every move can be misconstrued by tabloids. The Palace line of stoic silence hasn't worked since Charles and Dianas time but these days with media saturation at the click of a button and Harrys refusal to play the game with the Palace/Media love-in, the book and the documentary was the only way for them. I actually admire his conviction and media stance and I really, really hope in 20-30 years that it will be different and that people will understand media manipulation and the utter damage that Rupert Murdoch etc have done to peoples perception of "truth".

Thanks for sharing that. She’s absolutely right. Good on her for standing up against her dad and the tabloid media.
She's on the money though. I hate how you're always accused of being a fan of hers simply if you don't agree with the abuse she and to a lesser extent Harry are getting!! It was the same with the JD & AH trial thread on here 🙈 if you didn't want to skin AH alive in honour of JD your were a deluded fangirl 🙃
This problem is deeper than Harry and Meghan and once they are done with Meghan they WILL find some other young woman to eviscerate.

I've always felt pretty indifferent towards Harry and Meghan. They have no impact on my life so I never really understood the mass hatred - although I always suspected there was some deep ingrained racism at play.

The Netflix series really opened my eyes to how the public has been manipulated. I don't understand the 'DoN't BeLiEvE hEr sHe'S aN aCtReSs' argument when the documentary literally gives examples of the media attacks in black and white.

I couldn't help but feel desperately sorry for them and I hope they eventually find peace and happiness. I know there isn't a chance in hell I would want to be part of that institution and I think Harry was always going to leave regardless of who he ended up with.

A great example of how easy it is for people to believe what they read. I was browsing the Royal Family thread and someone posted the below meme as a joke with “this can’t be real” and someone replied “absolutely it is real, it’s being discussed in the H&M thread etc etc”. And I genuinely believe that poster thought it was real - no wonder misinformation can spread so quickly!View attachment 1876177
People turn off their critical thinking when they’re eager to believe the worst of someone, it’s quite sad.

i agree - I’ve seen discussion over the extract where Meghan confesses she wants to kill herself and people saying how manipulative she is. I’m sure it comes across like that in a book where chapters are jumping around, but that’s a very real experience someone had and it shouldn’t be called manipulative unless you can prove it

Just come here after reading an article in the independent!

Not really sure how to say it, but in some ways I’m glad (for want of a better words) that more racist comments are coming out from the RF. The article I read, showed Camilla holding a black kids sleeve as opposed to their wrist/hand but she’s seen to hold be touching white kids fine. Then the lady in waiting and a few other bits too. It’s not nice at all, but hopefully the rose tinted glasses of the royal family never being racist towards Meghan may not

What's everyone consensus on the Coronation? Should Harry and Meghan attend?

I can understand why he would want to - it's still his family and one of the most important days of his father's life BUT I can't imagine willingly subjecting myself and family to the endless attacks they'll inevitably face.

Maybe the best compromise is to have Harry make a quick visit and Meghan stay in California with the children? Interested to hear what persons who don't absolutely love or hate them think.
The headlines are already written by the usual rags, if they attend -fame whores and how dare they show their faces
If they don't go - how dare they snub the family/ they were snubbed by the family and how dare they not travel to the UK to be snubbed in person.
If he goes without Meghan - trouble in the marriage, he is leaving her to return to the King's ever loving bosom/ she snubbed the family how dare she.

Personally I would stay home save the cost of the flights and the inconvenience, let Andrew sit front and center 🤷‍♀️

It’s the Corbyn effect for me. The more people went on about him being this, that or the other, the more inclined I became to look deeper in to his background. He was never really of interest to me. Now I have a lot of time for him and his commitment to the things he supports. Same with these two. I wasn’t really bothered. Now I do support them speaking up! I don’t care about the royals as such but I do like to read books on them, I enjoy the history of it all. I can be unbiased though because I don’t think any of them are perfect. Kate fits the bill of Royal wife, but I see it written so much that “Kate has worked hard to fit in”! I find that quite sad. How much of herself has she given up to fit in? To be a wife of someone who has to put his country before her and his own children even? The Queen did it and look at how Andrew & Charles turned out? They’re both so messed up. How deluded are people to think this won’t come around again when Williams children are older? The women definitely seem to handle it better though. Elizabeth, Anne, Margaret, for all her problems kept herself as private as she could!

Of all the things said in this book, I firmly believe Camilla is a big leak. I think Charles permits it to because he’s so desperate to one up Mummy in the popularity stakes and he knows Camilla will never be Diana to the public. I do believe he’ll allow so much to be put out there, even at the expense of his own son. He’s behaved very selfishly over the years. Acting so “woe is me” over a marriage he claims he never wanted. He wanted the crown more than Camilla that’s why he married Diana. If not, he could have passed it down. He wouldn’t have been the first and I don’t think anyone would’ve actually cared had he done that.
