Hi all! Had my midwife appointment yesterday. I am 8 .5 weeks.
Just had a phone call from the hospital to book my scan in January. Despite the wonderful news about partners being allowed to every appointment it seems this is not the case at all. Apparently it’s down to individual trust. I’ve been told he is not allowed in with me. Very disappointing and still think this is wrong. We are very luckily to be able to afford private scans so we will do this on the side. It’s very unfair on everyone but women who can only rely on the NHS.
Partners should be allowed to attend this scan, it makes me so cross.

I absolutely love this description of a new born... Especially in a world of 'they glided out on a cloud of angel farts, gilded in gold, latched immediately then slept through the night'
My second came out looking like he’d done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson (as did my undercarriage). Brand new babies do not look good in my opinion. Takes them a good 48hrs.

You’d think it would be on the date you conceived but it’s not. It’s from the date of your last period. That’s how it’s worked out. No idea why x
Oh my gaaaaad it took my partner weeks to get his head round this! Pretty much convinced himself I was making it up and that I was adding weeks on to the pregnancy the absolute pleb 😂 thank fuck for google and the midwives!!!

This has always baffled me too! But as above, last period date. Although take with a pinch of salt as my 1st baby was definitely over baked, came out with dry wrinkly feet and long finger nails and was totally buzzing for like 24 hours (classic signs of “over due” babies, if you’re bothered about the due date of course, I know some people prefer not to think about it) and he was born at “39 weeks”. Always knew he was measuring way too far ahead on the scans!! 😂
Huge congratulations on your pregnancy! Xxx

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant.
I’m trying to go by the date that we conceived (1st November)
All the apps are staying I’m 6 or 7 weeks. Im
Not sure how they work it out!?
I know it’s usually done by your last period, however it has been a while since husband and I had sex due to his new job away. Is 7 weeks correct? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks 😊

Yep regardless of if you know when you conceived, it's always done by 1st day of last period until your 12 week dating scan. I kinda like it because you basically get to add 2 weeks on so it feels like you're further along than you actually are 😊

You might not necessarily have conceived on that day, even if that’s the date you last had sex. Sperm can live for a few days, so if you ovulated say three days after you had sex, then you could have conceived on the 4th, not the 1st. As above, easiest way to know exact dates is to go by your scan. :)

When you have your booking appt with the midwife they will go by your LMP. Then when you have your 12 week scan they will alter accordingly.
I have longgg cycles so when I fell pregnant last year my LMP was in September but I conceived in November. Midwife gave me an initial EDD of 29/06 and I got a ‘12 week scan’ in December but I was only 8 weeks due to the length of my cycle. I then had my actual 12 week scan in January and my EDD changed to 27/07. Either way I was overdue and she was born 41+2 🤣 had not even considered an August baby and naively thought she would be born in July as expected 🤣

sorry to hear you’re going to have to do some of this alone, thankful that we’re able to attend private too so partner can come. It’s really sad that not every trust will accept partners it must put a lot of stress and anxiety on expectant mothers doing it alone in this current climate. Which can’t be good for mum and baby surely? I want a home birth for this reason, hate the idea of being stuck in the hospital labouring by myself 😞 Hope this all changes soon, the best of luck and good wishes to you and yours on this journey 🙏🏼✨

Does anyone know how often you get checks by the midwife? I’m 25 weeks but havnt heard from my community midwife since 6th October. I have had a scan and check from the consultant since -3/11. But no word from anyone since. Is this normal practise or do I need to make a phone call?
You would normally see a midwife at 28 weeks and have a blood test as well at that stage. I’m not sure when the norm is other than that as I’m consultant-led so I’m mostly looked after at the hospital than with a midwife.

It’s different between NHS trusts but below is the amended for Covid schedule in my area. You have to call to book your appointments yourself here unless they’ve booked you while on your last appointment. My hospital midwifery dept has a FB page which is really helpful.
I know my second choice hospital in a Different trust is doing some of the phone ones face to face now but the timings are still the same.

It’s so confusing! But there’s so many factors to conception...I knew to the day when we conceived as we were proper TTCing to a schedule 🙈 did a pregnancy test and booked an early scan but when they did my scan they said I was only 6 weeks which when I worked it out meant I’d gotten a positive test before I was technically even pregnant. She arrived at 38 weeks which wasn’t her estimated due date but would have actually been quite spot on from the date I’m sure I’d ovulated! 🙈

If it's your first baby then you should have one at 25 weeks, if not, it's 16 weeks and then 28

As far as I am aware, you are still allowed someone at your 12 and 20 week scans. Not other appointments though.
I had my scan a couple of weeks ago during second lockdown and my Husband was still allowed in.
Have you contacted your doctors?
Someone I know in England (i am in NI) went for their 20week today and her partner wasn’t allowed in. I think it varies greatly. All trusts her currently allowing for 12 and 20

I’m currently also pregnant, I’m 25 weeks. I used a due date calculator on the NHS website when I found out that was good. When I went for my 12 week scan I was 2 days later than I thought I was but they won’t change your due date over 2/3 days. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
Thank you! It just really seemed to confuse me. Now I’ve got my head round it I’m excited for the scan. Congratulations to you also 😍
We’re you allowed to take someone with you to your 12 week scan?

It is dated from the first day of your last period, however this assumes a regular cycle and day 14 ovulation.
If you have a longer cycle or know when you ovulated then you can use online calculators to get a more accurate date.

My 2nd was due on 27/07/19, he was 6 days late and like you, I never even considered that I would have an august baby!
