I’ve just found out I’m pregnant.
I’m trying to go by the date that we conceived (1st November)
All the apps are staying I’m 6 or 7 weeks. Im
Not sure how they work it out!?
I know it’s usually done by your last period, however it has been a while since husband and I had sex due to his new job away. Is 7 weeks correct? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

You’d think it would be on the date you conceived but it’s not. It’s from the date of your last period. That’s how it’s worked out. No idea why x

It’s always dated by the first day of your last period, even if you know the exact date you conceived on as this isn’t necessarily the same date you ovulated. When you have your scan at 12 weeks you’ll be given a more accurate date which is then the date they go by.

Congrats on your pregnancy btw!

The replies above have explained but THIS calculator is a good one as you can chose last period or conception date and it also gives you a good breakdown of your trimesters. Also try the pampers one as it allows for your average cycle length too.
congratulations!!

Thank you so much everyone! It is weird as I know I fell pregnant around 10 days after my period! Really helpful

Yep regardless of if you know when you conceived, it's always done by 1st day of last period until your 12 week dating scan. I kinda like it because you basically get to add 2 weeks on so it feels like you're further along than you actually are

You might not necessarily have conceived on that day, even if that’s the date you last had sex. Sperm can live for a few days, so if you ovulated say three days after you had sex, then you could have conceived on the 4th, not the 1st. As above, easiest way to know exact dates is to go by your scan.

It is dated from the first day of your last period, however this assumes a regular cycle and day 14 ovulation.
If you have a longer cycle or know when you ovulated then you can use online calculators to get a more accurate date.

I’m currently also pregnant, I’m 25 weeks. I used a due date calculator on the NHS website when I found out that was good. When I went for my 12 week scan I was 2 days later than I thought I was but they won’t change your due date over 2/3 days. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Thank you! It just really seemed to confuse me. Now I’ve got my head round it I’m excited for the scan. Congratulations to you also
We’re you allowed to take someone with you to your 12 week scan?

Yea I was allowed someone at my 12 week and 20 week but I dunno if it’s changed now due to restrictions. I’d phone and check beforehand

Basically due dates are worked out on the assumption everyone has a perfect 28 day cycle, and ovulates on day 14 (whereas for this pregnancy I ovulated on day 54!), and so the due date is 40 weeks after the first day of your last period.

So if you know you conceived on 1st November, technically you would be classed as 2 weeks pregnant by then (using the perfect cycle assumptions). I always know date of conception as I have to track ovulation, so when midwives ask for the date of my last period I just give them the date two weeks before that, and keeps everyone right. For this baby I tell the, my LMP was 20th July when it was actually waaay back in June!

And congratulations!

This has always baffled me too! But as above, last period date. Although take with a pinch of salt as my 1st baby was definitely over baked, came out with dry wrinkly feet and long finger nails and was totally buzzing for like 24 hours (classic signs of “over due” babies, if you’re bothered about the due date of course, I know some people prefer not to think about it) and he was born at “39 weeks”. Always knew he was measuring way too far ahead on the scans!!
Huge congratulations on your pregnancy! Xxx

I absolutely love this description of a new born... Especially in a world of 'they glided out on a cloud of angel farts, gilded in gold, latched immediately then slept through the night'

My second came out looking like he’d done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson (as did my undercarriage). Brand new babies do not look good in my opinion. Takes them a good 48hrs.

As far as I am aware, you are still allowed someone at your 12 and 20 week scans. Not other appointments though.
I had my scan a couple of weeks ago during second lockdown and my Husband was still allowed in.
Have you contacted your doctors?

Someone I know in England (i am in NI) went for their 20week today and her partner wasn’t allowed in. I think it varies greatly. All trusts her currently allowing for 12 and 20

Ohh that sucks! I presume it differs place the place then as I'm in England too but haven't come across anyone who hasn't been allowed someone with them

It’s so confusing! But there’s so many factors to conception...I knew to the day when we conceived as we were proper TTCing to a schedule did a pregnancy test and booked an early scan but when they did my scan they said I was only 6 weeks which when I worked it out meant I’d gotten a positive test before I was technically even pregnant. She arrived at 38 weeks which wasn’t her estimated due date but would have actually been quite spot on from the date I’m sure I’d ovulated!
