20 week scan tomorrow, do I need a full bladder? went for a gender scan at 16 weeks and they made me empty my bladder as it was affecting visibility.

It was honestly such a brilliant experience!
Yeah, partner was officially allowed to stay until 9pm but they didn’t actually kick him out until 10ish, and then supposed to be allowed back in at 9am, but arrived at 8ish to get a parking space and was going to wait in the cafe but they let him in.

One thing I would say is don’t be afraid to buzz the midwives when you need anything. I hadn’t changed a nappy by the time my partner had to leave because I still had my catheter, so when I had to do it I buzzed for help. Then once when I needed a wee and didn’t want to leave him. Then at least twice for help hand expressing colostrum - tmi but my nipples are flat/inverted so baby couldn’t latch, and I didn’t have the knack to express myself so a midwife helped me get a couple of syringes.

My partner has been doing the injections because I’m terrified of needles - they don’t hurt and they just sting a bit afterward, I’m too much of a wimp to do it myself but if you’re not needle phobic they’re absolutely fine!

I'm not needlephobic but had to get my partner to do them because I couldn't bring myself to stab myself

I had a strong feeling from the offset that mine was a boy as straight away I didn’t really have a “dye stealer” test then had nausea but no bad sickness and then at the 12 week scan I couldn’t see any nubs to do the nub test but baby had a very square looking forehead. Everyone who saw the scan said girl but I just knew in my gut baby was a boy, we then found out at the 20 week scan he was a definitely a boy! I would of been more surprised if they said girl though I didn’t care either way, I just was convinced boy!

Yep I knew from the beginning mine was going to be a boy! I just had that gut feeling he would be a boy

Can anyone recommend any good reasonable places to get maternity bras from. My boobs seem to have doubled in size in this pregnancy and my current bras are extremely uncomfortable

So what I thought was my dare for my section is actually just the pre-op/bloods and swabs etc - section date two days later.

Absolutely awful night’s sleep last night. Was having braxton hicks most of the night and just couldn’t get comfy. Literally saw every half an hour on the clock and my OH had the cheek to say I was snoring

I’m hearing talk of the 12 week scan appointment being four hours long. Surely that’s not right?

Depending where you are it can be up to three hours. Mine was about 2.5 hours. I got there and checked in, they took my details then sent me to wait for the scan. That took about 15-20 minutes then I had to give a urine sample and waited to speak to the midwife, she went through what tests they'd be doing then I had bloods done for downs etc and general stuff such as iron and then I could leave. It was a long process for me but maybe not the same in all areas.

5 weeks till I have baby and I haven’t bought one piece of maternity clothing, I wouldn’t say I’m plus size I’m mid size but I’ve managed to get away with mostly stretchy things which has been a god send!!

I've just found out I'm pregnant, think I'm about 4 weeks. I have a midwife apt booked for 8th June. When did people tell their workplace? Its taken me a few days for the result to sink in but feeling very overwhelmed with what to do first!

I told one of mine at 12 weeks (I also work for family so they knew at 8) but I think you can wait well past that - so don’t fret if it doesn’t feel quite right. It’s a lot to take in. X

I know it's frowned upon but we've been given a usually very expensive car seat from a family friend. We know the history of it (no crashes etc) do you think it will be safe to use? My husband doesn't see an issue with it but I'm a massive worrier. We've been given quite a bit of stuff for free (baby slings and we may also get a cot from a family member) but we still need a pram, a next to me/moses basket and nursery furniture etc. I'm finding it all very overwhelming even though we are lucky to have a lot given to us. I'm also skeptical of stuff being given to us as this is our first baby and I don't know what to expect and just want to make sure everything is safe but my husband thinks I'm being OTT (he just appreciates the fact that people are willing to give us stuff for free )

What is considered ‘normal’ in terms of leaking milk? I’m 25 weeks and have discovered I’m now leaking colostrum/milk

I’ve been leaking since 17 weeks but know of loads who didn’t leak at all until baby arrived and started feeding its not an indicator at all of whether you will have any issues breastfeeding if you chose to do that but I must say I found It really easy to harvest colostrum and that’s probably down to leaking early!

I moved 250 miles with a 4 week old. It was actually ok. I did absolutely nothing except keep the baby alive and happy. I drove up separately to my DH and arrived to a house fully unpacked. Having your hospital bag and baby’s first bits in the car or somewhere nearby is a good idea. It’s v easy to misplace stuff when moving!

I’ll be moving 100 miles away when baby is 4-6 weeks old, how did you manage with hospital/GP appointments? Just everything transferred?
Also on having the house clean and baby ready? I’m a neat freak at the best of times, but like you I’m hoping me and baby can just hop into the car and arrive to everything ready

I think it’s fair to say, I’m less relaxed and glowy than I was last time, during Covid, fully wfh, living with family who waited on me haha. Ironically though despite dealing with a walking, talking can of red bull, walking the dogs and going to the office are still the most exhausting parts of my day haha! Morning sickness was much easier without a toddler trying to help hold my hair and then pretending to be sick next to me though

I actually worked a more physical job and full time hours when I had my first, but I was walking the dog up to about 41 weeks. Fully doing all the housework etc. I feel like iv been basically housebound since 30 weeks this time, my first child is 4 but still it is quite demanding. That or my body just can't handle it anymore !

How far past a missed period are you?
I've always found they come up instantly when it's around your missed period

38+4 and been having period cramps on and off all day, keep feeling sick, hot flushes and back ache and generally just feel rubbish has anyone else had symptoms similar to this? Want to think it’s the start of something but daren’t get my hopes up incase it all goes away by tomorrow

Does anybody work for the NHS? I finish this month and I’m trying to work my pay out but keep getting a different figure each time.

I do! What I've heard is it will probably differ from month to month cos it's paid in weeks but i think still on your regular pay date? I'm not 100% sure though
I know it should be 8 weeks full pay, 18 (I think) half pay topped up with statutory and then statutory for the remaining weeks until unpaid begins

Thanks for all the reassurance. It’s on and off but quite bad when i wake up and much better when I take paracetamol. Have you had any contact with midwife service yet? I filled in a form for mine and am waiting. It feels very weird just to have to wait around for anyone to officially confirm I’m pregnant

I’m in Australia so contacted my private midwife and she’s organised everything!

Has anyone had a high heart rate in pregnancy? Mine was high at last midwife appt, and so was babies, so I went for monitoring. They said everything was fine but it’s been high a fair few times since then and I’m unsure if I should be making them aware?

Out of curiosity what is yours? Mine went up as my pregnancy went on but nobody bothered. Baby’s heart rate was quite high during one of the scans but she was just an active little bean. Then my heart rate was sky high after the birth which was due to a UTI- could you have a UTI?

So I've been quite fortunate to never have "bad" skin, never had acne or greasy skin... however. With the pregnancy, I now can't go more than 4 hrs without greasy skin. I don't use cleansers and I don't wear makeup - but thinking I may need to start a cleanser. Any suggestions?

Hi ladies,
A little gestational diabetes question…
My baby’s abdominal circumference was over the 95th centile at the 20 week scan. I have had another scan today at 26 weeks and it’s still the same (all other measurements are bang on average).
I’ve been booked in for a glucose test next week. Anyone else had a baby with a big tummy? Was it linked to GD? And can anyone describe their symptoms of GD?

My friend had three babies all with larger tummies and was tested but never had gd. Mine both measured average on the 20 week scan but I had gestational diabetes. Wasn’t picked up until the second pregnancy after my first was born at 9lb2.

My symptoms were being thirsty and getting hypoglycaemic episodes. I’d be quite shaky and sweaty if I’d not eaten in a while. It can be quite overwhelming to think about but it is manageable and doesn’t always mean you have to have intervention. I had my second naturally in the pool on the birthing unit.
