Post your experiences at MAC store

I usually order my Mac makeup online, how ever I remember going in once and getting one of the workers to try some foundation on me in my shade. I went home after buying the foundation. Got in and had a look in the mirror and the foundation had oxidized and I was very orange never used their foundation since. Lipliner, lipsticks and bronzer have always been good though which I repurchase!

Anyone else noticed not just with Mac but the makeup stands in boots etc that the women working on the stands their makeup is awful? Very caked and orange with bright pink lipstick. I know someone who got a job on one of the estee lauder stands with no previous experience with makeup, she hadn’t even done a makeup course or anything in relation with beauty either. Usually these stands are higher priced makeup as well so I’d be expecting someone with some knowledge of makeup and not just knowing where to place it.

Speaking of Estée Lauder (sorry I know this is a post about Mac) but i wanted to try the double wear foundation. I went into John Lewis, house of Fraser and Boots and all three said I was a different shade

They normally use a wee machine to colour match to your skin? So it should be consistent regardless.

No I’ve never had one of them colour match machines used on me, they’ve always just guessed themselves and matched me to what they think

I just can’t find a foundation match in Mac, I have an olive skin tone and find them really orange on me, I pointed out how orange it was and the girl says d if I was you I would go to Estée Lauder I used to work there and their shades will be much better for you. I have had other suggestions of buying a few and mixing them, said immediately no way at that price.

When I went to get a foundation match at MAC the girl was really nice and friendly

When I went to get a foundation match at Charlotte Tilbury, the girl was quite rude and sold me the wrong shade. It I didn't realise til I got it home and used it.

Years go I once went into a Mac counter to buy a foundation to use for nights out (for when I'm tanned).

I chose the one I liked on my own and went to the till to pay; the girl at the till said to me in a really condescending way ''Are you sure you want this shade it's way too dark for you and you're quite pale?'' I told her it was for when I have tan on and she was like ''oh'' and just went about the transaction in silence. In that moment I could have easily not bought it walked out; I don't know why they say these things it's like they are talking us out of buying anything from there!

It was the last time I went into a MAC counter and haven't bought anything from them since there's much better brands out there anyway.

It sounds like she was trying to be helpful tbh.

I went to a MAC store in Vancouver and the staff were lovely and very helpful. My nearest here in the UK is within a department store and the staff always seem a bit stuck up

MAC is actually a Canadian brand. Not sure if many people know that.

No she wasn't she said the question to me in a very condescending way. If I wanted help choosing a foundation I would have asked a member of staff but like I said I took it to the till to pay and had my purse out ready to.

Her rudeness could have prevented me from not buying the foundation at all and the store would have lost the sale. End of.

Never had an issue, I find stores that have lots of different brands more intimidating than a Mac store itself

you know whatever negative experience I've had at a makeup counter based on my not made up face has made me laugh. A lot are tarted up like the bleep of babylon while I look better then them without it, also I can apply it better This is a thread about mac, but I interned at a sephora for a week, then quit because those were some of the nastiest people I've ever been around I couldn't stand it. Not to mention every time I go into a sephora for a refill I can tell a good lot of them are like this, they think they tit gold because they work at Sephora. As for Mac? haven't been to one in years, but they make you feel so small, and ignore you.

Oh god, I never go into Mac unless I have a full face of makeup on, lashes and everything. They look at me like I’m dirt otherwise but I haven’t shopped there in years, there are way better brands and makeup now and I feel like people think Mac makeup is good, just because it’s so well known.

I have however, had really good assistance at Urban decay!

One time I went and wasn't ignored (?!) and I wanted to try one of their foundations. I think it's their Studio Fix foundation that's the most popular one? I wanted to try it. Well, the man matched me with a colour in one of their other foundation ranges which was crap, and the wrong colour, I only realised after in the natural light when I'd already bought it. I honestly think he was taking the piss.

Another time I really wanted one of their pigment pots. Completely ignored by staff. I still wanted one so I opened a drawer to find the one I wanted, seeing as nobody was going to help me. Well, that got the attention of the sales associate who suddenly was by my side and asking me why I was opening their drawers and reprimanding me like a child. Needless to say I didn't purchase!

I kind of got my own back another time when I was browsing and being ignored as usual. I spotted a boxed lipstick lying abandoned. It was Velvet Teddy which I'd been wanting, so I took it. I just picked it up and walked away with it, and of course they didn't even notice. I've never told anybody this. It wasn't right I know, but I was younger then and it felt like a bit of a "duck you" to the snobby, witchy staff

I was in one in fenwicks in york
my daughter had saved up to buy me some of their make up
i was standing there,looking like crap,no make up on and stressed
a lady that looked just like a Disney villain came out of nowhere,looked at me like I was rit and walked off
just as I was about to leave nearly in tears,a lovely yet normal looking lady came over,helped me buy the right one for me and we left happy

i still use Mac but will never forget the Disney villain lady with the mad eyebrows

Perfect way to describe it. I’ve seen many an Ursula working in the MAC stores.

I’ve never been in one I’d be way too intimidated. I have adult acne it isn’t major but I still feel conscious. I’d feel that they would look down on me. That’s my problem though not theirs.

I never understand the caking on of make up to work on a counter/instore. I know a fair amount about make up (though I couldn't contour for love nor money), and it doesn't make me want to buy it. It certainly wouldn't get a make up newbie to buy it either. I get that they're showcasing the products and under bright lights all day... but it still doesn't add up.

That's great you were able to get your hands on the foundation you needed without asking. Everywhere I've been they always keep everything in drawers and I've always had to ask for each thing I want, which is a pain.

usually you don't have a choice how much makeup you want to wear. I was told to cake it up by my supervisor

No I assumed that too, but again why do management think that’s the look to go for?!

no clue I was nicely made up then caked it up the next day and that still wasn't enough.. then again she was a B****. Sorry but that work experience was traumatizing.

At least at sephora you're meant to be a perfect looking barbie is the impression I got - ASSUME its the same elsewhere.

The Mac experiences I've had are mostly negative. I remember I once went to the counter they have in Manchester selfridges looking for a lipstick. I'm a redhead and pale so not every colour suits me. Asked one of the ladies for help and she replied oh I don't know what the issue is because all of these will suit you... OK even that orange one over there that's the same colour as my hair left without buying.
Did have a nice experience with a man in the mac near Camden Market. He was so helpful and an absolute delight.
But I do agree, most of them make you feel like tit x
