I track the ISS on my phone, too, much to the amusement of my husband. I still get so excited every time I see it!
Love space - I'm afraid I don't "get" everything but it's wonderful and fascinating.

This (really quite old) picture is of the most interesting object in the Carina nebula, it's the pre-supernova star, Eta Carina. There are more recent pics available, but this is my favourite, I can remember being absolutely blown away when I first saw it, I still have it as the wallpaper on one of my old phones!

What with the release of the first images of a black hole, and now, (finally!!) the JWST in action and sending back lots of data, there's never been a better time to get into astronomy. I'm still amazed at having all of these wonderful images at my fingertips, any time I want. When I first began to study the night sky, you could only see photos in books and magazines. In my very first astronomy book, it was thought that Mars may have "large tracts of vegetation"! 😮😬 (I'm not even that old!!)

What always makes my mind blown and hard to wrap my head around is the fact that the universe is infinite.. how can something have no end.. surely there must be in end! But if there is then what’s on the other side of that?!? Where does this finish 🤯

I grew up near Jodrell Bank and we used to go all the time.

I think what I love about space is that we are looking at the past before we existed. It is crazy to think that the stars we see in our sky tonight might not exist at this present moment.

Does any one have favourite space films? 2001 obviously, Interstellar and Sunshine.

I’m the same, I try and learn what I can, but the whole subject is so vast it’s impossible to understand it all. I agree though, it’s amazing.

I really like these zoomable pictures from the Webb telescope images. There are so many pixels that when you zoom in, you actually get to see more detail!

Time is a human construct isn’t it? So seconds and therefore everything to do with science and time and space is all dependent on arbitrary units that we have created.

Then things really start making your head hurt.

Are we all ready for this. Ive been able to see Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Uranus but not aligned just yet!

Also, we need to talk about/appreciate the Webb telescope‘s images our own solar system’s planets!

But what stunned me was the raw images.

All the parts that look like stars are just “noise”. But isn’t it amazing anyway.
