I’m not particularly a fan of either artists but Beyoncé Heat and Britney Spears the blue bottle have been two of my ‘work’ perfumes. I don’t find them too overbearing and the smell will be more important to her than the famous person behind it

My daughter has some nice ones from Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Miss Guided, River Island, New Look and even Primark for everyday wear.

I’d avoid some of the celebrity ones.

Ooh body shop do a lovely one - Jasmine, it comes in an orange bottle. I started using it as a teen and still love it.

Britney perfumes are incredible. Midnight fantasy has been my fragrance for years.

I am considering buying my 13yo niece perfume for Christmas. My sister (her mum) won't let her wear any makeup, so I thought fragrance was a compromise on a more 'grown up' gift, which my sister has OK'd.

Any recommendations? £20 or less, and a fun, light scent. Would love something that looks pretty on her dressing table too.

I used to like the Apple one as a teenager, I think it’s DKNY. I think it’s around the £20 mark and it’s quite light so not too “grown up”

I agree. I think the scent/smell is more important from an adult point of view but not a childs. You want to give them something relatable and what thirteen year old relates to britney.
At that age I was into All Saints, so it would be like me getting Celine Dion perfume. I wouldn't have been happy regardless of the smell.

Exactly, fragrance is about aspiration as much as a scent. Find out what’s trendy with 13 year olds. I would imagine Zara would be?

I personally wouldn’t get a mix set. Usually you get one or two that are ok and the others not and it’s the most expensive way to buy perfume. At 13 we liked to liberally spritz not dab on a pulse point.

I agree with Britney Spears perfumes, I have the pink and blue bottles, the blue bottle is my FAVOURITE ever, and the pink one was my first perfume ever!

Does she have a favourite celebrity or singer ? Lots of singers that tweens love have fragrances : Ariana Grande , Taylor Swift , Justin Bieber , Beyoncé , Britney Spears … one of those might be suitable ! I think they’re only £20 or so in Superdrug

I've just been stalking her Instagram for that. I don't think so, certainly no one like that. I know she likes Mabel and Ed Sheeran. I don't see her a lot cos they live 200 miles away, but I will investigate!

I still wear the White Musk oil I first wore as a teen from Body Shop. I love it.

Have a look in Superdrug, their Layering Lab perfumes are great for younger ones . They also do lots of others that are really good for tweenagers, I think they have Hawaiian Tropics fragrances too. You can probably get a few for £20, especially if it's 3 for 2.

Next does some lovely perfumes, Avon's attitude bee is lovely and a pretty bottle.
some times places like boots & superdrugs do little bottles in a like a selection pack, something like that could be good so she can try a few?

But what if the OP bought her niece Mabel perfume (if she has one) and it was a horrible smell? The girl isn’t going to be walking about carrying the bottle so the fact she’s not a fan/doesn’t really know the person shouldn’t be a deciding factor over smell

My point was stay away from celebrities perfumes.

Go into a shop and just smell some!
