They look amazing houses. But you must have to sell a kidney just to be able to afford the window cleaning bill for them. They’re mainly all glass. I can see why hardly any are lived in. Post Knott- The Lake District house is an Air B&B type thing at nearly £800 a night. Which is why most people, myself included just go for a look from afar. Much to the annoyance of some of the locals who are quite NIMBY about it.

I’ve never seen sense to take one of these houses. Especially not now but back when they first started and before AIRBNB existed, unless you were going to move there yourself which means relocating your entire life, or renting it out meaning you become a landlord I never thought I’d do it. I read you can take a cash substitute instead, that’s what I’d do.

There's no cash substitute in the UK, which will be why so many people sell up.
I enter these things on a semi-regular basis and have everything crossed for the London one, it's a part of London I love.

I didn’t know this, makes me double down on my point then, it seems too much hassle than it’s worth. If the houses are that great why do they try and keep giving so many of them away is what I wonder
I think I'd take the hassle for a few million in my pocket.

I tend to only enter those I could would actually want to live in. My job could in theory be remote but I feel like being in the office comes with benefits for my career so I'd probably try and work out an arrangement where I could be in the office less (maybe a week in, week out), and then live between our house and the Omaze house.
I'd probably put the cash lump sum towards our mortgage, leaving us with only about £100k left and the saving on our current payment would then pay for the upkeep costs of the Omaze house.

I would sell and upsize from a 3 bed terrace to a 4 bed detached with a larger kitchen in the next town to me.
Keep my current 3 bed for my kids, air bnb it.

Glad to see there is a thread on these houses. I’ve entered a couple of times, but it does all sound like a bit of a poisoned chalice unless you have funds or time/ acumen to set up as a business plan. I think I’d definitely like to stay there for a one off holiday if the furniture is still in it!then sell it under the asking price and enjoy the money .
Reminds me of the guy on grand designs who built the dream coastal house over a period of many years and lost his marriage in the process. I think his children became adults in the time it took to complete and it had cast a shadow over their childhood.
And he knocked down a beautiful coastal detached house in order to get his dream come true
