Actress - Bette Davis / Katharine Hepburn
Film - Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (if you count that as Golden Age)
I haven’t seen many Bette Davis films, must watch them! I recently saw her in Death On The Nile which I know isn’t Golden Age but it has some of my favourites in (Maggie Smith, Olivia Hussey, David Niven , Angela Lansbury) and I love Peter Ustinov’s turn as Poirot.

Katharine Hepburn I love, her accent was brilliant. I love Bringing Up Baby and Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner (Sidney Poitier )

My own all time favourite is Dead Ringer, where Bette Davis plays both herself and her twin sister. I'm always baffled how its never talked about more these days, it is truly brilliant!

My absolute fave Bette Davis scene and fave Bette film I often wish I'd had a chance to copy this scene and use it in my own life

From the film 'Of Human Bondage'

The bbc have done well with loads of old classics this Christmas. Hopefully reach to younger audience, I myself discovered the old films from Saturday matinees on telly.
I got into older stuff via watching whatever my grandparents had on the telly at their house, where I spent a lot of time.

And every year it was tradition for things like Mary Popppins, The Wizard of Oz, My Fair Lady, Gone With the Wind... stuff like that... to be screened and my gran especially would always always watch. As a younger child I didn't always appreciate the old films/musicals but as I got older I became really into it and I'm glad I had the chance to be exposed to. These days most of the classic era flicks go behind a paywall so hearing that at least some are appearing on free to air is great.

Feud: Bette and Joan is quite a good series about Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Its by Ryan Murphy but it was made before he completely lost the plot.

I wish they had the OG Mary Poppins on this year as it’s been ages since I’ve seen it.
Let’s Go Fly A Kite gets me in the feels, so nostalgic and comforting.

My very fave Bette film is ‘The Man who Came to Dinner’. She has the most gorgeous outfits and Monty Woolley is brilliant and hilarious

Definitely worth a watch.

My favourite Bette Davis film is one she produced herself, called A Stolen Life. She plays twins, a "good" one and a "bad" one. I won't spoil the story for you but I highly recommend watching it. High camp and double the Bette bitchery.

Love Bette. Her and Carole Lombard are my two favourite olden actresses. Bette didn't give a shit if she was liked but made sure no one made her look like a fool. Carole had a great career with comedy but I would have loved to see her doing more serious stuff like Vigil in the Night. I would also hope she would finally had enough of Gable and throw his ass out but we will never know.

I want to watch more Greta Garbo movies as I've only seen Grand Hotel and feel I need to become more familiar with her, she's such an icon and it just feels wrong to have seen so little of her work.

So I'm starting with her first talkie, Anna Christie. I've got a German version with subtitles ready to go. Looking forward to it.

Bringing Up Baby was on over Christmas; I love that film!

I also love Carry Grant in Operation Petticoat and Father Goose.

Such a shame this thread isn’t as busy as some of the others!
I just watched Pillow Talk for the first time (it’s on iPlayer) and really enjoyed it! Quite modern in someways for a film that’s nearly 70 years old!

So funny you should mention it, I was just thinking yesterday that I've always thought about watching it but haven't as yet

They tried to do that kind of comedy with George Clooney and Catherine Zeta Jones; I forget the name but it did not work.

That was Intolerable Cruelty, I thought it was a brilliant film, but meaner than a classic Day film. Renée Zellwegger and Ewan McGregor did a pastiche of a Doris Day movie called Down with Love, which didn't quite work as well. Intolerable Cruelty was a bit zingier.
