I just wanted to see - are any of your work places making terrible cringe suggestions as to how to replace your usual work Christmas outing/party? Or has someone's boss came up with something awesome?

Personally I am not into the Christmas party at all. I think we are getting a few online quizzes with the opportunity to win Amazon vouchers and then my company are making a donation to a local charity with the money they would have spent on wining and dining everyone.

We’re having zoom drinks then a virtual awards ceremony 🙄 I’m not up for it at all! Cringe fest.

Nothing at all. Usually have a Christmas buffet in the staff room and a Christmas party, but none of that this yet

My director invited me to afternoon tea. Then said he's paying for cakes to be delivered to everyone's houses which I'm very on board with 😂

We're having a Zoom call.. god only knows what they have planned for our virtual party. I heard whispers of meeting Santa via Zoom

They want to do an in-person thing in a nearby park for those of us who live near the old office. Idk, I might come down with a mysterious illness that day!

Sod all fortunately! We had a 60+ people party booked which obviously is very much not going to happen now, so we're just doing the traditional food, crappy jumpers, and beer after we close. Maybe Champagne if we're feeling classy. Got there yesterday and all the decorations had been put up including the much-loved 'pweirdo Santa', a mini animatronic Santa who, when switched on, makes wanking motions that make his trousers fall down. I assume it's unintentional.

Ours sent a nice bottle of wine to everyone for a zoom quiz & drinks instead of the Christmas party.

We're doing a 'virtual Christmas cookalong lunch'. We're being sent all our ingredients in the post the day before and then cooking along on Zoom with a Masterchef finalist. We'll then eat all together on Zoom....

We are doing a virtual game, and are able to expense £20 worth of food / drink for the occasion. That works out nicely for me because I don't drink so can get quite the feast, ha ha.

We finish work at 5, but it's not starting until 6 and goes on until 8. Not sure why we've got a delayed start...it's not like we've got to travel and put our glad rags on.

I have images of you guys having a Dundie Awards ceremony led by Michael Scott. It’s a real life “The Office” 😂😂

We’re having a virtual Christmas call. No idea what’s happening it’s just been sent out to folks diaries. It’s been sent by a colleague who is the most official and OTT person of all time. She creates flow charts to make decisions in her personal life. YEAH. 😳🙄 So it’ll be very organised “fun”

Some of these ideas sound alright - the claiming expenses for food/drink and doing a quiz sounds good.

I work in education so we've never had anything paid for us and won't this year but we've just found we're going to close on the last day of term so we get an extra day off which I value more than anything else they could have done.

When we realised we wouldn't be able to have the usual party this year, I secretly felt really happy about it. I always feel like you have to force yourself to go and pretend you're enjoying yourself to these types of events.

Anyway, my silent joy was soon ruined when somebody suggest we all stay late on the last Friday before we close for Christmas, get a takeaway and have some drinks in the office. FFS!

Well, clearly that person needs a talking to! 🙈😂 staying late on a Friday? Words no one ever wants to hear!
They could give you the afternoon off or something.

A team Zoom quiz and chat with my team. I’m glad it can take place at home, in comfy clothes, and with my own food. I hate office Christmas meals at restaurants, it’s never anywhere I can eat much (allergies) and you end up doing small talk with people from other teams.

Oh, and no having to pay for a meal either :D

Oh, and for those having a zoom “party”, there’s always a the option of your “WiFi cutting out” if you want to leave early ;) For those who have to “show up” but don’t want to be on zoom til midnight with the last few people.

I'm NHS so never really had a work party, we did used to go out for tea but with staffing the last couple of years it hasnt really happened until like feb. We always have a little buffet we bring in a couple of days before though, its more for the ppl working over xmas, so they have nice things to snack on.
I was talking about this the other day how I would love to work somewhere that had an old school office party.

My employer is still giving £40 per head to each department which is what we normally have at Christmas and it's up to management to decide what to do with it. Haven't heard anything yet but I'm hoping they just give us a £40 voucher or something! Definitely do not want a Zoom party
