Noisy neighbours

Thank you that’s kind, I have requested to be moved but they just tell me I need to find an exchange. I have been looking for a year and getting nowhere.
They truly don’t see what they’re doing is wrong and neither do the other neighbours, it’s like I’m expected to put up with it and base our own routine around there’s. I don’t expect silence just consideration. I dread coming home from the school run/work every day because I know what’s waiting for us.

That sounds really frustrating, I hope you can find somewhere else soon. It can completely take over your life when you live next to people like that and I will never understand what makes them behave that way. I am just so sorry for you. I had to keep reminding myself it wouldn’t last forever and it won’t for you but I know it’s little consolation right now. I really hope things get resolved for you soon xx

For the verbal assault, I'd report them to the Police, I did that with my neighbour when he kept coming out and shouting and carrying on with me.I'd just film them on my mobile if they do it again.
In the meantime I'd wear headphones in the house, its not ideal but better than listening to them. I would completely ignore them as well totally as a lot of the time people want a reaction. Can you get the Drs to write a note to the HA and say you need to be moved on health grounds? Can you get onto your M.P and ask them as well to put pressure on the HA?

Thanks both, I will wait and see the outcome of the report first as if they don’t act on it the neighbours will definitely get worse and worse so I will need to move regardless. I wear headphones most of the time but I do need to record the noises as evidence, it’s really hard to stand there listening to it for that reason so I try to leave my phone recording for a couple of hours and listen back as it puts me on edge listening out for it. I’ve been told if they say anything else to me it will be considered anti social behaviour and I will need to call the police. I let them get away with it last time as the HA were worried it would provoke them further, but it is logged and they will be receiving a warning over it. There must be something so wrong with people who deliberately upset other people, especially children. We’re the ones suffering it yet we’re the ones having to move and being treated badly. I really despair.

I feel for you OP I hope you find somewhere nice to live. I live by noisy neighbours , they have 3 kids all late 20' early thirties still living at home in a small semi . They talk and fight a lot but it is no where near as bad as you . who you live next door to really can effect your health.

Thought I’d update that the recordings have been reviewed and they have deemed it to be normal household noise.
30 seconds at a time of recordings as their noise app accepts, and they have shrugged it off without a proper investigation.
Im more upset that they clearly see me as a hypochondriac and have said I can’t expect silence. Their noise rules clearly state anti social noise between 11pm and 7am is unacceptable, now I’m being told it’s fine.
Just to clarify I don’t expect silence, I’ve never complained about their ‘normal’ day to day noise as it isn’t waking us up as annoying as it is to listen to.
Will they be told about the outcome? I don’t believe they were contacted at all, but can they contact them now they know I reported them? I’m just scared they will see it as a green light to make more noise as no action will be taken.

I really feel for you and I believe what you’re saying. I suspect they just don’t want the hassle of dealing with it. I understand there can be a fine line between normal household noise and excessive noise and everyone has a different tolerance but you’ve been quite distressed with it. Do you know what your next options are?

Please don’t put in a complaint as you’ll need to declare it when you sell. We had to move as we couldn’t stand the noisy neighbours any longer. Best thing we ever did.

They suggested I look into moving if I can’t cope with normal household noise. Pretty disgusting to be honest, if I was a genuine ‘hypochondriac’ with issues it could be damaging to be spoken to the way they have me today. you’re probably right that they can’t be bothered, but I would have happily waited until after Christmas for it to be looked into properly.

They have been fairly quiet recently, normal noise like tv, hoovering, washing machine (albeit at 1am), talking etc doesn’t bother me at all, it’s the deliberate loud noises that get to me as it’s done spitefully. Yet It feels like they have the upper hand as if they decide to make noise I have an anxiety attack and have to walk on eggshells to avoid ‘triggering’ them to do it again.
I feel completely let down. I wasn’t expecting a full blown ott outcome like eviction or anything, just for someone to ask them to be considerate. They have cancelled my meeting with my housing officer which is likely to get back to the neighbours too, so it’s just biding time until it all begins with full force again.
I have spent the whole day looking for a mutual exchange (I don’t own the house so I don’t have to declare it thankfully) but I think I will be waiting a long time unfortunately.
Thanks for replying and for reading my rants.

Daydreams about a desert island to myself...

My heart goes out to you, feel free to rant. It’s horrible to live with that anxiety and to have your sleep so disrupted. And the things being done spitefully is the worst, had all this with my old neighbours. Some people are just wired up wrong. It is in some ways probably for the best that no one is going to ask them to be quiet though, in my experience people like you’re describing wouldn’t respond well to that. It would have probably caused you even more problems. I hope that a mutual exchange becomes available for you soon I really do xx

Thank you, you’re probably right I just have to wait and see now and hopefully find a new house asap. I really appreciate all of your replies, you’ve been a godsend through this so thank you. I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas xx

I hope you manage to have a good one too 💖

I feel your pain my neighbour is so inconsiderate and immature music sometimes from 10am until 6am next morning, shouting, screaming, banging she leaves her balcony door open so it's extra loud, she has her 10year old son living there aswell. it's most days now she and her friend drink smoke weed and basically think they can do what they want cant say anything to them without it ending in a massive argument them offering me out. I've complained so many times nothings ever done they seem to get louder if anything.

Maybe contact the rspca regarding the barking dog, pretty sure it can be anonymous and it might be a wake up call for them. Hope you manage to have a lovely Christmas regardless of your neighbours

I completely understand what you’re going through. I’ve lived in my flat 2 years and never had and noise problems- would rarely even hear our neighbours. Now we have new ones and it’s awful. Door slamming (never heard a door slam with the old ones), music at stupid hours, they have a tv in each room on so loud I can hear the words being spoken. Huge arguments, giggling and laughing and talking at all hours. I go to sleep each and every night with anxiety that I’m going to be woken up by something, It’s not until I go to my parents when I realise just what effect mentally it has.

100% move when you can- we’ve tried the council and landlord but it got us absolutely nowhere. It’s awful that so many people have no choice but to just live with this.

Anyone suffering like this it's petty but I recommend a website called sendshit.co.uk

Sending animal tit is totally legal as it is a horticultural sample. It is also very satisfying.

Best done when you have moved.
