Love Dr Greger, his How Not to Die book (and accompanying recipe book) is great too. Appreciated the sentiment of Ultra Processed People but good grief can that guy not write 🤦‍♀️

Well, I made it to March 4 and then made a mistake. I went to a lovely store that has lovely things, looking for a frame to give with a photo as a gift. It was all budgeted for and in plan. I did not find a frame. But I did find a pretty planter for me because apparently I deserve it or something. I knew as it was happening that I was justifying it (“it’s so me!” And “it is a great price!” And “it won’t be here when I want it!”). And I totally succumbed to the marketing of all the pretty spring things that are so intoxicating after the dreary winter. I just did not have the resolve to fight it.

So yes I could return it. I’m just going to sit with the feeling for a bit. It won’t break the bank, but that’s not the point. It was an impulse buy. I won’t be too hard on myself because this is my first slip in months. But I am annoyed by myself nonetheless.

Learn from me. The stores are pushing hard with this spring thing, parting us with our hard earned money and they know our discipline post-Christmas and new years is wearing thin. Stay strong, folks 😂

Would anyone be interested in another no spend/low spend challenge?

This year has been so turbulent so far. My intention was to safe up for a down payment. However, life hasn't given me a break since January, so I've been quite susceptibleto impulse buying

No buy:
- New clothes, maybe try learning how to mend/re-dye existing stuff
- Shoes (take better are of the ones I have...)
- Fancy cleaning products (I hate cleaning, no tool/cleaning product will change that)
- Cosmetics, except replacements

I like the "Project Pantry" challenge that's doing the rounds on YT, so I might give that a try. I always bring my own lunch, so that helps, but have some pantry items that I only ever used for 1 recipe. So I'll try to use up what I have first, I guess?

We are busy moving and redecorating so I can’t do the challenge but I will definitely cheer you on!

In terms of clothes do you have a lot? I used to impulse buy clothing so have ended up with loads and I just wear the same 5 items anyway 😅 If you are similar I would say “shop” your own wardrobe. But if you need clothes then do get them. One can only mend clothing so often before you start looking tatty.

I have enough clothes to make it through the season. Some of my t-shirts have a couple of really small holes (I suspect from the washing machine or my belts), so might try to mend the holes (if it looks rit, I'll throw them out).

Shopping my own wardrobe definitely sounds like a good idea :)

So far, I've used up:

PANTRY:
- jar of mango chutney
- jar of white miso paste
- box of quinoa

BEAUTY ITEMS:
- Cosrx face mask

I've kept this week's budget a bit tighter, as I'm going to a concert next Saturday and half of my family have a June birthday...

I've been doing more home baking and trying to find a favourite home made bread recipe.
Finally managed it and it has black treacle in! 😋
Plus the hobnob recipe is using up my golden syrup.
Have just made ice cream which if it works means I can indulge my love of creme fraiche more.
Sick of having to bin a tub of creme fraiche before it's finished.

I found an empty tub, went through the cupboard and boxed up the “use soon” stuff but I’ve been using up some eggs I had first. I’d been trying to do “project pan” with the beauty stuff, now it’s “project pantry” as well.

Time to be strict for a while after some payments coming out although it feels good to have no fees owed on anything now.

Fingers crossed nothing breaks. Things always break when I try to actively save money.
