Thanks, I knew about the transfer but I haven't played in months an keep thinking maybe a new island save will get me back into playing again, but like you I've categorised like just about every item in the game so am stuck between wanting a new island but also not really wanting to lose everything I have lol, so I'll see how my mood is on the day lol

At first I was thinking about selling it, but with my neice now getting more an more into gaming I thought it be be a nice little "starter" console for her, right now she can play all the games where you just hold the joycon but we are working on learning her button control so am hoping we could maybe both play multiplayer at some time on both consoles, I've tried her on other consoles but still feel the Nintendo is the better one for her

I’ve used the tool twice, it works great.

Little Miss I don’t want a Switch 2 joined the AO preorder list. They called me one lunchtime and I snapped it up. Ours is due on Thursday, the tracking says DPD have it already.
Haha I love that! I knew I wanted one as soon as I heard it was coming out, but I've heard of others caving after initially deciding they didn't want one. Great that you managed to snag one. I didn't even think of looking on AO's website back in the early days of pre-orders.

Yeah you're sensible really! I know I should do the same, but I don't want to part with my TotK Switch yet. I suppose I can always sell it down the line if I want.

The GameCube was a great console. I loved the mini discs. I got one of those fairly soon after launch. I remember using an online store stocker to find an Argos about 40 miles away had one. So I quickly ordered it for click and collect and hopped on the train. When I got there, I realised the Argos was at least 2 miles away from the station and there didn't seem to be any buses, so I walked there and back! The things we do for gaming.

Yeah that makes perfect sense. I did wonder myself about starting a new island, but the idea of doing all that stuff over again when I've got new games to play just filled me with dread. But a friend of mine has started over about 3 times and he loves playing it over and over. Horses for courses!

Kids love the Switch. My niece also has one. She loves it. Her parents have put a limit on how long she can play it each day, otherwise she'd never be off the thing.

Ooft I dunno if I could restart over an over haha, I've had my island since day one way back when it launched, but I suppose that might be a good idea to keep it fresh an fun, all my mind keeps doing is going back to "oh but you have this an this"

I never knew you could set times on the switch, I know that it's pretty hard to lock down compared to the others, right now she only really plays when we are together but in time I might need to learn that lol

I have a Switch Lite I don’t play much but I’m thinking about getting a Switch 2.

The thing is I think I would want to keep the Lite for when I travel. I’ve realised that that would mean I would have to buy the Switch 1 version of games but I’m not sure I’d be able to play on both? And will I be able to use the same account across both devices?

You can't set times on the Switch itself, they've got an app on their phone that controls the Switch, though. Not really sure how it works, I just know it turns off the Switch after 1 hour, 30 mins of play.

Damn that’s commitment. I don’t think we got GameCube anywhere near launch. Actually the Switch 2 is the first console I’ll be getting on launch.
But the biggest mystery of our childhood is ‘what the hell happened to the GameCube?’ That thing just vanished. Not the games. Just the console. Everyone claims they don’t know anything. Thank god the Wii was backwards compatible.

As far as I know, you can do it but it’s not a great system. I think one has to be your primary console and the other has to be connected to the internet at all times to have access to your games. Though that is with two switches so maybe it’ll be different with a switch 1 and 2

Thanks I'll look into it for when she's a bit older an is starting to properly game, the one downside to the switch is it's lack of parental controls, I can completely control the Xbox an PS from my phone so now absolutely everything that's happening if she's on them but with the switch it's not quite as in depth or controlling as the others, but at least it has the switch off option as that will probably be one of the things I do need the most control on

You can "loan" the games for up to two weeks, but if you loan it to one system then I don't believe you can play it on the other, it does look very much to be like one game can only be played on one console at a time, so if you were traveling I'd imagine you would just "loan" your game out to it an play an then after two weeks it would go back onto your switch

Am not sure how the same account on both would work, I'd like to imagine you could keep your account for both an it will be fine, like surely they must know some people are going to keep one for travelling an another for their home, or if it were kids with parents in different houses then a console in each house

I like this, it feels like the 00s and 90s. I'd go at mightnight if my local store was doing it.

I've never been to a midnight release for anything. I'm not against the idea, I think I've just always managed to source what I want online before I've known about a midnight opening so then there's no point me going to one.

I guess I'd also have a bit of anxiety about queuing up at midnight and then being told I'm still not gonna get one because I'm too far back.

Me neither but I do remember the days of folk queuing up for games or outside the Apple Store. I like my bed too much.

I've never been to any, but I do remember all the hype around them an friends going, mainly it was the harry potter books which at the time I wasn't interested in so missed out on all that

I do remember my brother waiting for the psp when it launched but it was a daytime thing, would be kindi fun if they did bring it back but I think online has mostly killed the idea, I'd have said I could imagine there being a midnight release for GTA6 but with so many probably getting digital versions there might not be

I'll probably go after work, our store starts from 11pm, so I'll drop by an maybe see if I can swipe a goodie bag an some games

I think the apple stuff was always silly, it was only ever a new rectangle that does the same things a little bit better.

I remember getting the N64 at midnight and going home with mario 64. That game was mind-blowing at the time . People were amazed at just stretching his face.

I'd only go for a midnight for collection of a system already reserved, no time to be wasting like those that line up for a labubu without even knowing what one they'll get!

Well, my Switch 2 has now shipped, as have some of the accessories I've ordered.

Now it's just a waiting game.

My dream of getting mine today has been dashed. DPD hasn’t even picked it up yet.

On a better note, Happy Switchmas Eve
Yeah I'm pretty sure all UK retailers won't ship till today - not worth falling foul of Nintendo's rules. I got my dispatch email really early, though, so I'm hoping for release day delivery.

My accessories are coming via Royal Mail, though, so God knows when they'll arrive!

I just got super excited as a DPD van pulled up outside. He had 2 boxes in his hand, one was stuff for my OH and the other was for the neighbour

I know that feeling! That said, I understand you can't play it early anyway because the console and Mario Kart World need a day 1 patch which doesn't release till tomorrow anyway. I think it'd be worse having the console and not being able to play it!

I don't think DPD has even picked up my Switch yet as the tracking number doesn't work. But, from experience, it's common for them not to pick up parcels till later in the day, even for next day delivery.

The Royal Mail tracking numbers tell me to check again tomorrow. I wanna say: but tomorrow is ages away! It's like Christmas Eve when I was a child.
