NHS Dentists

I didn't visit for a year and they've binned me off the books, does that mean I'm now stuck either having to pay a fortune for anything or having no dental care?
Has anyone been able to register with a new NHS dentist recently? They all say not accepting NHS apart from the ones that say only accepting on welfare or referral.

I go to a NHS dentist an you only get one visit a year now instead of the 6 months it used to be, did you miss the appointment? I don't think they should be removing you if it's only been a year an you haven't missed any appointments

I'd just phone around them all an see if they are taking new patients on, not sure why they say they aren't accepting unless it's on welfare or referral, they either have space for someone new or they don't

Same but because it was literally a week after the year they let me rejoin but I wanted an emergency appointment but as I was now to be treated as a ‘new’ patient they’re apparently not allowed emergency appointments!

They then closed a year later so I had no choice but to go private as the few NHS dentists I found had huge waiting lists.

I didn't go for 14 months and I didn't miss any appointments but apparently I'm off their books. I feel like such an idiot but I think they should have warned before doing this. Phoned all the ones within 15 miles and none are taking on NHS with space only for referrals or benefits. I had no idea it was this difficult to find one as had no problems a few years ago registering. How to people cope that move to a new area?!!

I think I'll be the same and have no choice but private if I want any dental care. It's awful they say no NHS but if you pay a fortune they have an appointment the next day!

I know! Private is expensive but you can get an appointment straightaway. I used to have to wait ages for my NHS appointments.

This might not be any use to anyone but thought I would mention, if you find a dentist that offers Denplan you can pay monthly for private dental cover. I pay around £32 a month and with that I get 3 check ups and cleans a year plus any emergency dentist visits/other work included. The only downside is before you join you have to have a full check up with the dentist and have any work required carried out (cost me around £100) and they use this to grade your mouth health which then puts you on a grading scale which works out how much your cover costs, mine was the least.

I’ve had a wisdom tooth out and two trips to the dentist on top of my usual visits so, so far it’s worked out quite well, not that I’m hoping for any extra dental work! It was a good option for me because when I was NHS I got kicked off for accidentally missing an appointment and when I was private I would cancel my appointments because I didn’t want to pay out in a lump. I just see it as a bill now. Why not add an extra bill to the abundance of bills we already pay just to survive 🥲
