So I recently signed up to the Nextdoor site out of interest after a leaflet came through my letterbox and decided to join and check it out. I don’t know whether to laugh or be slightly concerned I’m living nearby a bunch of busybodies!

Examples of some recent posts:

Did anyone see a man who didn’t look like he was from the area driving down the road at 3pm today? No, I did not, but people are allowed to drive up and down roads and *shock horror* they don’t have to be local to do so.

Hi all, just moved to the area, happy to be here, hope to be friends, etc, etc, blah, blah, long spiel, oh, and here’s a link to my GoFundMe page to raise money for furniture for my new place

Free Stuff to whoever wants to collect it!
With pictures of said stuff underneath which you’d mistake for rubbish if left on the side of the road because it looks broken and dirty.

Did anyone hear GUNSHOTS last night, around 11:30pm last night? Cue lots of panic, drama and outrage, people riling each other up, completely ignoring the one solitary poster who piped up and said “it wasn’t gunshots, it was fireworks, I saw them from my window”, NO, of course it has to be guns, because gunshots sounding off for half an hour makes so much more sense than fireworks.

I’m not on Facebook so although I’ve read about local groups like this I’ve never actually seen one up close and personal like this before. It’s fascinatingly odd lol.

Have you joined yours!? Any funny posts to share? 😋

I'm not on Nextdoor, but my local Facebook page is exactly like that, including photos of the 'suspicious' cars and vans driving down public roads. I would also add endless posts about dog tit (also often with photos attached ) and complaints about how many joggers and cyclists are on the streets.

I mostly go there to point and laugh.

I’m glad it’s not just my neighbourhood that’s like this

People on mine also love just being so nosey under the pretence of caring “Does anyone know why there’s an ambulance on bla bla road? Hope everyone is okay”

I'm not on it but my local Facebook "crimewatch" page is the exact same. Everyone posting about some poor innocent lad walking down the street in a tracksuit 😂

Did the leaflet include:-
Are your neighbours having people around?
Did any of your neighbours not clap for the NHS
Have any of your neighbours gone out without a mask, not social distance, and not had a 'valid' reason?
If so shame them on Facebook and report them on this number.

Thankfully I haven’t seen that sort of thing yet but I suppose I haven’t looked hard enough yet 😆 I Did see people moaning about a shop not accepting a refund because they lost the receipt and also someone posted a picture they took of someone else they thought looked suspicious 😶

I never knew this existed. I've also just downloaded the app. If it's anything like the Facebook group for my local area no doubt there will be some absolute gems.

People on mine are either complaining about dog tit or using it as a dating app. Deleted
Do they post pics of the tubes as well, like they do on mine? I hate people who don’t pick up after their dog as much as the next person but I really don’t need to see that when I’m just innocently scrolling through looking for posts to mock.

There’s something almost comforting about the fact that it’s the same all over the country. We are a proud nation that stands united against unauthorised dog tit and unknown vehicles on the road!

I moved from a village to a city and I’m on both fb pages the difference in complaints is amusing. The village one I often think how can you get worked up about that

Even though I have moved from the area now, I still belong to a few local groups on Facebook. Very similar type of posts really. “Did you see a bunch of suspicious boys walking up the middle path” or “my bin has not been collected this week” blah, blah. 🤣🤣

I’m not on next door but our estate Facebook group is GOLD.

My other half and I a few weeks ago spent an entire afternoon off work following some parking drama 😂

mostly parking rants, including passive aggressive notes left on cars, ‘disguised’ photos making a ‘general point’ and then the owner of said car wades in taking offence to their car being photographed. Well, if you didn’t park like a fool, there wouldn’t be people annoyed by it!

I'm on our town's Facebook group.

Everyday a debit/ credit card is found . I think people cancel them , then leave them lying in public for a bit attention.

Lots of missing cats and dogs.

Parking/ traffic/ pot hole problems .

Unrelated things that should be on the potter's own profile .
