Neighbours Dogs

Our neighbor who lives opposite has 2 dogs who bark continuously. One is worse than the other. It starts early and can go on until whenever. They usually stand by the gate which is directly opposite mine and it’s nearly driving me mad. My neighbor is a nice lady but she sees nothing wrong with this and says they are good guard dogs. How their continuous yapping doesn’t drive her crazy I don’t know.
Any advice? It seems the dogs are driving the rest of the cul de sac mad too but as we all live so close nobody wants to get involved.
What to do?

Could you politely explain to her that the noise is becoming a problem for everyone in the street? I’d have a word with her, and if she’s not receptive then you’ll need to report her to your local authority or police - you’ll need to keep evidence of the issue so recordings of them barking etc - I mean, yeah, dogs bark. But if it’s going on all day and all night and you can get proof of that then do so and see where you get with it.

Agree with this. Does she know how bad it is?
I would be worried about the dogs, they shouldn't really be barking all day.

Barking comes naturally to dogs, but constant barking or whining is not normal and may suggest there is something wrong. It could be boredom, fear, frustration, neglect or medical problems. If they are guard dogs then they will bark at what they see as a threat, like a postman, someone walking by, a car pulling up. They would not be barking ALL the time.
In law a barking dog can be considered a noise nuisance or anti-social behaviour. A dog owner can be taken to court if they do nothing to stop the nuisance.

I wouldn't ever confront a neighbour no matter how nice they seem. Lots of 'neighbours wars' have started with the politest of requests. Report to the council.

You could report it to the dog warden. I would be worried about why they are left outside all the time, that doesnt sound right.

We have a similar issue. Next door have dogs, that have access to the garden. They are out at work all day so the dogs have free rein all day. They bark nonstop, it drives me mad. When they’re in the don’t make a peep so I doubt they’d even believe me.

That is so infuriating. They bark because they are bored. If you know her well, you could suggest she finds them things to do during the day - such as toys, treat balls, etc. (assuming she isn't at home during the day; if she is, then she needs to take them indoors with her).

If you don't know her well, perhaps complain to the Council?
