Off topic. My mum was diagnosed with high cholesterol today and was told if she doesn't lower it she will have a heart attack. Does anyone have any advice on what i can give her to eat, to lower her cholesterol?

Back on topic. I think Harry is kicking himself at the moment. He lost everything and if it hasn't sink in by now. He is even dumber then I thought.

Porridge, apples, prunes and beans. Soluble fibre helps stop cholesterol ‘sticking’ that’s about all I know. Hope she gets better soon x

Flaxseed oil, garlic and niacin although I am not sure if you have to have the flushing kind (the flush is pretty intense but it does literally feel like your arteries are being flushed out - no need for an ambulance).

If she is in peri or meno (the crappest club in town or what ??) her hormones might be contributing and finding a way to manage them may help.

Tell her to be careful which statins she takes. They give the cheapest, which is quite right.
But some of the side effects are weird, the first lot I had affected my feet and I felt i was walking on pebbles as they destroyed the muscle on the soles of my feet. Still have feet issues.
The next lot made me feel awful, dopey, tired.
Now on my third lot which are fine.
You can get all those yoghurts and spreads but as my doctor said you would need to eat a lot to reduce cholesterol.

There are medications that help -- Lipitor and Crestor...

Thanks. She is 71, so she is long passed the hormonal part. They gave us a few recipe's, but one of them have 3 eggs in it. And according to what I read, eggs are a no no. So it confused me a bit

There is only so much you can do with diet to lower cholesterol. Statins are the only answer if diet doesn‘t work. I have to take a very low dose statin because high cholesterol runs in my family (my Dad died of a heart attack in his 40s). I’m not overweight, I don’t smoke or do any of the things that are supposed to raise cholesterol so there was no way I could lower it enough by diet alone. I know there are a lot of scare stories about statins but I can honestly say I’ve had no side effects. And at the end of the day I would rather take them than have a heart attack or a stroke.

In the supplement category I would do fish oil, krill oil and psyllium fiber.

Harry should be taking fiber. Or castor oil. He looks constipated.

They now say the good kind of cholesterol is in eggs and helps control the bad as long as you don’t go mad.

Thanks. I will see how the pills work out. She walks everyday. But she has been tired lately. I will ask her about her feet. She hates fish. So I will have to find a way to mask the taste.😊

Rough oats in cereal and porridge, omega 3 fish like salmon and tuna, up the veggies especially things like broccoli, kale, spinach, red cabbage. Eggs and shellfish are a bit high in cholesterol. Nuts and seeds are good for snacking? Avoid food that’s high in salt and loads of additives. The diets online will help too?

My father -in -law was diagnosed with high cholesterol and was immediately fed bran buns with every meal😂. Didn’t make a whits worth of difference so it was onto the statins. He has been going strong for some time now.

I was diagnosed with the same thing. Has the doctor prescribed statins? I am finding my way re the diet although I know fibre and plant based proteins are good.

I got out on statins at Christmas, I've luckily had no side effects with them.

Hope all goes well for your mum.
