I suddenly feel so inadequate. Mine have always been a plastic bucket with random candy thrown in and a “you’ve been boo’ed!” note on it.

I've seen boo buckets like that, you're not inadequate

Some people have HUGE ones full of loads of stuff, some people do small ones, I think that's the good thing about them, it can be a £1 Halloween plastic bowl/bucket with a sticker book, a lolly, a packet of haribo and some socks or it can be OTT.

But of course for Mumsnet anything more than turning off the lights and hiding behind the sofa as a family is too much celebration.

I would just like to say I definitely haven’t been watching it daily with my 4 year old and she absolutely doesn’t know every word of the songs. Halloween is the day I role play as a Mumsnetter - usually hide behind the sofa with the lights off pretending to be out if the door goes. I might up the game this year and put on a sister wife dress too.

When I was collecting my son at 1am the other day (we live drurally and there’s no transport or cabs) I said to him how much he was going to enjoy being round a mate’s until 5am when he goes to uni in a few weeks. He told me v earnestly that he thought he’d be studying too hard for that kind of thing. Luckily it was dark so he couldn’t see me smirking

Aw, bless. My older nephew just started university last month and is still very intent on being studious. Which, given he's at one of the top five "party schools" in the US, means he's sober Monday through Wednesday.

These people need a healthy dose of 80s/90s parenting. The stuff my parents didn't prevent me from watching is slightly shocking but in fairness, all Chucky did was making me lock all my dolls in my wardrobe at night for a month, so
