£35 a week on food 😱 tell me your secret 😂 We shop at Aldi mostly and spend between £70-£100 a week on food, that’s for 2 adults a 4 year old
There’s only me and my son. Shop at Aldi. On the occasion I go over that food budget I take it out of miscellaneous fund

I’m a self confessed budget queen 🤣 I love a Budget budget budget!! I can’t stress enough how much a budget helps! When you do your budget make sure you count everything to the penny! Never round it up or do an estimate, everything needs to be exact. Have you tried opening a bank account like monzo? You can set yourself budgets for each different category and it notifies you how much you have left in each so you don’t over spend on it. It really helps to see what you’ve actually got left to spend. Make sure your partner does this also, it needs to come from both of you. Don’t compare yourself to anyone, I know it’s frustrating when you see others doing things that you can’t afford but try to focus on you, comparison is the thief of joy.
I literally love budgeting too!

What ever is left goes in to a emergency fund in case I need anything
I buy own brand products things most of the time and I sometimes stock up on cleaning products or sanitary items when low I shop at aldi and iceland I fill my freezer for roughly 30 then use the other 30 to get bits to go with it plus a treat or too

Hi everyone.

Im 26 and own a house with my partner. Its a lovely house and we got it for a good price. We both earn a good enough wage with me around £1600 and my partner £1300. (Doesnt seem alot but it is for all our outgoings etc) Realistically we should have plenty of money left over for social activities and even getting stuff done in the house but every month we are so so skint. We have basic cars, our food shop is low and so is our bills.
We have friends who have their own house too and theyve have just spent £10k on a new garden.. how? Another friend also got aome cosmetic work done that was in the thousands and she paid in cash. She has a similar job to me so similar wage.
How do people afford these things and I cant even afford to go out for a meal once a month? Not really a question but more of a rant.

any money management advice welcome x
Write it all down. Money saving expert has a good sheet for it.
you’ll probably be surprised to see areas where you can cut down, like changing providers and insurance instead of renewing etc

Some really good advice. I am like the OP I have enough to live on but i just don't know where my money goes . I then realised i was spending little but often . E.g going to get bits from the shop and nights out ,not looking at what i have spent it all adds up. I use to budget £25 for food each week but i was probably spending around £40 or more as i was going out for meals. I am thinking of selling my car as i only use it once in a while.

My biggest tip would be to do a budget each month and stick to it religiously. When I first got my house even a take away wasn't had if we'd gone over budget.

Another thing we did (may not work for you ofc) was we pooled all our incomings together for bills etc and then took an allowance for e.g. £100 each a month. The reason we started was because my partner would spend £5 ish a day on coffee where as I hate the stuff! But with the allowance he could buy what he wanted without me nagging about it 🤣🤣 also made our true household outgoings easier.

Good luck!
We also do this, joint account for all our bills and what we have left is ours. If you add some extra to the joint account for savings or as a back up when you need it that can really help you feel more comfortable but also stops you spending it on stuff you don’t really want.
I’d also second the view that you don’t really know what other people’s overall financial situation is and they might have other credit etc that you don’t.

I always feel like this when I see the amount of clothes other people buy, I only get essentials when I have to but I think it’s just a difference in perception and attitude to what I’d rather spend my money on.
