I’m really liking Molly’s content atm (I think what I’m mainly enjoying is how she’s miles better than Ruby in so many respects), but I’m not gonna deny there are some things about her that are starting to grate on me a little already. I think her camera voice is 100% put on and her vlog personality is probably a construct too, at least in part. The gestures and expressions at the very least.

For her sake, I hope her channel stays small. The whole unfollowing/re-following Ruby debacle was sign enough that she’s ready to go down the same path if given half a chance and become a greedy, money-grubbing toxic productivity ”influencer”.

What I don’t get is why everyone is wanting to ”romanticise” their lives all of a sudden. Whatever the fuck happened to just living authentically and doing your thing? But nooooo, we must light candles and study in bookshops and be the main character (newsflash: you’re already the main character in your own life and supporting cast in most other people’s lives, no need to make a big deal of it).

Molly looks very similar to Holly, to me.

I wonder if she is really that softly spoken in real life, because when she talks to camera she speaks so quietly and I know that would annoy me in seminars or something.

Twee, yes that's the word I was thinking of when I meant she talks so quietly and softly. I can't figure out if that's her actual way of speaking or if the twee, girlish barely audible voice is put on for the camera. We know Ruby has a camera voice so it's not beyond possibility that Molly does too.
YES!! I find her whole camera persona incredibly fake. Also she said in her most recent vlog that studying in cafes is her favorite way "to romanticise her life" (???) which is just... wow. I don't need to sit in a cafe to study just to feel cute and quirky  but I guess I'm not Molly!

I also found Molly at the beginning of her recovery and I genuinely thought that she was 16. She acted very childishly and she seemed really different. She never once spoke of literature back then. I know that everyone's recovery is different, but Molly's recovery seems odd to me. It's like one day she was completely in tears in front of a piece of toast and the next week she deleted everything, had no fears and was a literature nerd going to Oxford.

I kind of hope not, I’m rooting for her to go her own way and not get sucked into the soggy mire that is studytube. Much as I miss her Oxford vlogs, I want her to have actual success in life rather than subjugate her existence to youtube views. Ruby is stagnating big time and I doubt she’ll ever be able to break out of the cage of regression she’s built around herself, but I feel like Molly still has some hope of growing up to be a person of interest and integrity.
Yeah, totally agree. Molly was already starting to swerve down the same road as every other vapid studytuber, so I'm glad she's shoved that all aside and is doing well away from social media.

I'd wager that since Molly was another friend that Ruby latched onto through Blakeney, they likely have zero contact now beyond the unsolicited letters that Ruby sends to everyone she's ever come into contact with.

Pure speculation but with the timing of this thread being made I wouldn’t be surprised if Molly deleted all her videos because of it. She went offline/deleted everything the first time when she found the lolcow threads so wouldn’t be surprised if it was a similar story here. This isn’t a criticism of this page. It’s definitely nowhere near as bad as the lolcow thread but If molly isn’t able to handle reading it/knowing it exists it was a wise choice to take a step back

May be a bit intruding of me but does anyone else think she may of relapsed with her ED?
I’d rather not speculate too much tbh. If she has, good for her for dealing with it offline! If she hasn’t (and I rather think she hasn’t, since she’s apparently been able to keep up with Oxford), then good for her, period.

She's also not posted on Instagram for almost a month. Maybe she's taking a step back from social media? I hope she's ok.

I know this thread is just about dead and Molly understandably wants her privacy, but Google has just revealed to me that she played Toby in a 00 Productions production of Sweeney Todd in Oxford this past February. Pics here in case anyone’s interested: https://www.00productions.co.uk/gallery

So it looks like she’s doing well, just choosing not to be on social media.

So easy to make that choice when your state schools are all super nice and full of middle class kids whose parents care about their education and can afford to help fund the extras to make it a good experience.

If I lived in my house now and had an 11-year-old, they'd be going to one of the schools featured on "Jamie's School Dinners" as a place where mothers sold McDonalds through the gates to children forced to confront vegetables as part of their midday meal. Not quite the same choice, is it?

Does anyone know about Molly’s background? I’m still shocked from when she said she had never really thought about going to a place like Oxford until a teacher suggested it and she decided to apply on a whim. Last time I checked, it’s pretty hard to get into one of the most prestigious universities in the world after applying on a whim
I think she's probably playing it down - you definitely can't apply on a whim, because the application deadline is months before other universities and I expect for English Lit she would have had to submit written work (which afaik other unis don't require - it can be a random sample of A Level work but obv it's an extra thing to think about). Maybe by applying spontaneously she means that she made the decision at the start of Year 13 rather than having the intention to apply for years.

I don't want to assume that Molly pretended or faked her ED. places like /snow/ and /lolcow/ can be fucking brutal for no good reason, and alot of the users for that Pro ana forum were heavily projecting onto these girls online and being downright cruel and bitchy.
Any unhealthy behaviours or coping mechanisms in old videos that documented her recovery have now been taken down, and I think she was criticized for certain things that she owned up to and removed from her channel. If she was problematic before to a more serious degree, that's been addressed and removed. (This is me just talking about her own behaviour on her old videos, not her currently problematic association and promotion of Ruby and her eating disorder-esque behaviour.)
I have issues with her seemingly 180 degree shift into Oxford literature nerd, but she has been showing various clips in almost all her videos pre-Oxford of her taking notes and annotating books and doing research. Unlike Ruby, I don't think Molly's interest in English is a farce.

Has anyone else been watching her videos since the beginning of her recovery? She's deleted all those videos now but they used to really annoy me - she acted completely differently and it really felt like she was infantilising herself and the recovery process.
Yeah I did. She used to be a lot more high energy in her old videos, it's like she's trying to be overly soft spoken now. If anyone wants see what she was like during that time she was discussed on lolcow.farm quite a lot

Why do ALL of them copy Holly's hand gesturing?? It's so obviously put on, it drives me absolutely crazy, and I'm not even a Holly fan.

In the video you can really see how similar it is, and no one can convince me that those hand movements are natural to her

And then this one Molly copied from Ruby who copied from Holly

Gatekeeping EDs is a pretty lolcow thing to do 🙃
Yeah lolcow’s ed thread is so toxic and totally invalidates people’s personal experiences. They’ll argue that someone isn’t anorexic when they are clearly underweight. There is no argument that Molly lost so much weight in a short amount of time. Plus she had negative and restrictive thoughts revolving about food. She’s completely valid to state that she had an ed.

Just watched the first half of Molly's new video from 3 days ago. God, does anyone find the little dances and faces she's pulling when she's eating/drinking just as annoying?

 we get it Molly, you're just so twee and special!!

More posing because that doesn't look weird and unnatural at all.

I just read some of the comments about Molly on lolcow and I don't think she is as innocent or as authentic as she presents herself. Which is a shame, because I had really enjoyed her book videos and I had a good impression of her. In fact, I think she might be just as fake as Ruby or worse.

TW: ED Behaviours

I didn't know about her before she started hanging out with Ruby, so I didn't actually watch any of her recovery videos but they are described with a lot of detail on lolcow and they had many screenshots of her posts. Someone had found some pictures of her from a theater group from the start of the year where she developed anorexia and it looks like she went from healthy to anorexic and back to healthy again in the span of a few months (by healthy I mean both weight restored and mentally. Of course there is no real way to know whether she was actually mentally recovered but when she posted on instagram she spoke of her ED in the past tense like she was already over it).

I refuse to believe she had an actual eating disorder, because no one recovers that quickly. If she had claimed to have bulimia, or binge eating, or any other eating disorder that was not restrictive anorexia it would have been much more believable. Now, I know you can't tell if someone has an ED based on their weight (in fact, most people I met in treatment looked completely normal, because they didn't have anorexia), but the combination of having recovered extremely fast, never really looking underweight and posting videos where she ate normal portions of all kinds of foods with no issue makes me think she was faking it for views or at least exaggerating.

From what I read she also had stuff on her instagram bio like "I know I look 12 haha" and she always referred to herself as a child, so in that sense she's just as childish and weird as Ruby.
‘There is no way to know whether she was actually mentally recovered’, well yeah? An ED is a mental illness, it’s not always visible on the outside. Idk what ‘lolcow’ is, but they sound like they don’t really understand how eating disorders or mental health issues work tbh.

I agree but then I do wonder if Molly, perhaps not unlike Holly, had her way to Oxford paved due to her socioeconomic background and massive privilege (she's clearly upper middle-class). That's not to say that she isn't hard-working but I do see some parallels to Holly here. I'm definitely curious as to what she's going to do with her degree once she's done. Obviously it's too early to say but I'm curious as to whether she wants to stay at uni or goes down the Holly road and becomes a full-time twee-geeky-lifestyle-vlogger.
I think she said in one video she wanted to go into acting/theatre after uni, which surprised me as she comes across as kind of shy? Also maybe betrays her socioeconomic privilege, as I do feel like there's a certain kind of middle-class Londoner who pursues acting as an actual career path rather than just a hobby they might eventually get paid for if they make it big.

I do genuinely like Molly's vlogs a lot - they're relaxing to watch, and she seems relatively sweet and down-to-earth in comparison to Ruby and a lot of other studytube types. I think my main concern is that she's going to start slipping into toxic positivity territory before too long, as this seems to be the curse of any online personality who brands themselves as creating that sort of wholesome "romanticise-your-life" content.

Oh I got it 😀 Molly irritates me, I can’t deal with these types who display their individuality by being exactly the same as everyone else! I think she’s very inauthentic.
I do as well, I think she is super pretentious and copies so many different people. Everything about her seems very forced and not genuine
