Imagine being able to (probably) cure world hunger, but instead you play building space ships to go into space. Just buy a convertible like all the other middle aged men with small wicks and be done with it.
In the good old days of Empire (now a dirty word), rich people flaunted their wealth by building libraries and art galleries, so that everyone had access to culture and beauty in one form or another, they endowed schools and build orphanages like Thomas Coram 's Founding Hospital to help single women and the babies they couldn't care for, they gave money towards prison reform, they built orphanages for abused and abandoned children and shelters for abused and abandoned animals, built public baths so the poor could keep themselves clean - we don't see any of that now. It has become a "pissing-up-the-wall" competition between Musk and Bezos and others like them.

They could do so much - but they don't.
