Mandela Effect/False Memories

I only very recently discovered that it wasn’t ‘Mirror Mirror on the wall..’ in Snow White, but Magic Mirror on the wall. Also since when did Worcester Sauce become Worcestershire sauce?

I feel like it always has jut everyone calls it Worcester sauce.
Not 100% sure though.
But I've always seen it on the bottles as Worcestershire cause but always called it Worcester sauce

I always thought it was a wine/deep pink colour

that greens not chartreuse either though. Chartreuse is like a lime-yellow-olive colour.

This is very interesting, although personal stories seem way more interesting than the famous ones. I guess it's easy to misremember or mishear a movie quote, but the timing of these misremembering is also noteworthy, especially 2012, like mentioned above.

I remember learning that cows have 8 stomachs. That seems crazy if I think about it now but my gut is still telling me it's 8, not 4. Some people remember learning they have 6 or 7. It's pretty weird.

The Flinstones/ Flintstones one was interesting, too. However it's easy to omit the T. As kids are sensitive to phonetics it's easy to think you remember it was The Flinstones, as I think I remember or just said so many times that it must be true. Have I ever actually looked at the logo properly when I watched it? Nope.

The celebrity deaths are intruiging. Like Mandela himself. That would've been a big event. The fact that different groups remember him dying in different centuries is baffling! I can't say I have any recollections of misremembered deaths, but maybe that's because I'm quite young. I didn't really remember Mandela. I know when Micheal Jackson died, it was big news, but didn't care to look into it. At the time though I thought he was already dead so didn't bother me that much clearly

Omg, I thought I had seen it too, it must have been clips that I saw. I think it was made into such a big thing that we probably felt like we had seen the episode. Wow

To be fair, I should have clarified that ITV2 did air an edited version of the episode a few years after the court case had finished, but when the TV show Quiz was on, loads of people commented saying they watched it happen at the time and knew something was suspicious which simply wasn’t true - the edited episode aired once he was found guilty and people wouldn’t have watched it with any suspicion because the outcome was public knowledge by that point!

In the 70s my sister lived Peterborough I stayed up there and went to buy some crips they sold walkers ( hardly anywhere else sold them)picked up the green pack that had always been synonymous with cheese and onion and they were salt and vinegar. I had to throw them away as hated them. . from my first pack of walkers cheese and onion in a blue bag I was hooked so much so that my husband had to drive from London to Peterborough when I was pregnant to buy me a whole box..

Goldern wonder was the most popular crisp at the time and those and every other crips maker had them the other way around to walkers. then slowly walkers took over as the biggest seller. I believe that is how the misremembering of that came about.


I do believe in the Mandela affect but I know 100% that walkers have always had their cheese and ioion in blue packs.

When I was a kid in the 70's, the most popular crisp brands were Golden Wonder and Smiths. Both used green packaging for cheese and onion, and blue for salt and vinegar. There are loads of images online of the old packaging, it's just that they weren't Walkers!

The Walker's Crisps is a total Mandela Effect. There is a 200+ page thread on another site where posters are convinced they remember a change. Good God, I remember a big deal being made in the 90s when the packets were changing colour. Where did this come from? As @Purrrrrrr said, the fact that Golden Wonder have it the other way around (Or the RIGHT WAY!) might count for something but for so many remembering the packets changing it really makes you think.

Earlier in the thread, the Who Wants to be A Millionaire coughing scandal was brought up. I too, especially at the time the drama Quiz was broadcast, saw many people commenting that "I saw it when it was broadcast, I KNEW something was going on!!!" As has been said, it was never broadcast at the time - but there was a "Tonight" special which showed the programme with enhanced coughing.

Oddly enough isn't that a Mandela Effect in itself? The episode is known as the "Coughing Major" but Charles Ingram didn't actually do the coughing..... or am I taking it too far?

I am reading everyone's contribution's to this thread - it is a great interest of mine and I am pleased to read what others think of it.

A bit part isn't even that I remember them being the opposite colour. It's that I remember there being a big thing about them switching colours at the time!

One I saw the other day was that the term "Bucket list" only started being used after the bucket list film.
I haven't looked into this one myself yet though

I remember that film and it definitely was the first time I'd heard that phrase.

I definitely get why it happens with lines and quotes. The original gets very slightly misquoted and then that''s the one that gets repeated.

I definitely remember Channing Tatum coming out as gay. Did that ever happen? I know his name but couldn't pick him out of a line-up. God knows why I'd' remember' that.

Me too!! I always look for the green pack. Its obviously salt and vinegar and not cheese and onion but I remember it being green!

It's funny because I live where your sister used to live

I am probably a bit younger though to remember them only being sold in certain places though

When my sister moved there, the part she moved to it was a London overflow development. fields everywhere around them and some amazing old gipsy caravans the barrel painted type . I remember when I stayed with my sister having to get an operator from a phone box to connect me to my husband's home phone sometimes we had to try forever as outside lines were all busy So to me a Londoner it really was the back of beyond.



I don't live that far from there now. its nothing at all like it was.

My dad and I can both clearly remember having a conversation with my grandfather about the events of 9/11. We both remember the conversation exactly the same way. Particularly relevant as my aunt and cousin were in New York at the time.
My grandfather died on the 9th of September, we can’t explain it.

I have something similar with 9/11.
I was only 9 but I distinctly remember waking up on holiday, in a caravan and mum watching it on TV on the news.
But we went on holiday the week before.
We went home on Saturday the 8th and 9/11 was the Tuesday after.
I haee such a clear vivid memory of watching it in the caravan though!

I really believe its when Walkers went nationwide that the mixup began. This was a huge thing even before the mandella effect become a thing
Before, you could only get Walkers in certain places, people who already knew the Walker brand knew the colours but once they went nationwide people got really confused that cheese and onion were in blue bags and salt and vinegar were in the green bag.
If my sister had not moved to the back of beyond where they sold wakers I too would probably remember it differently. but for me, it's a specific memory as I craved walkers cheese and onion during my pregnancy and we had to drive miles to get them. and that was before the nice fast roads were built. As I said before the first pack I bought of Walkers I had to throw as it was salt and vinegar in a green pack. I was like WTF









The difference between those memories is that the Walkers one is a very very clear memory. absolutely no doubts, but the other two have hazy parts, like, oh could it have been, or maybe it was .......

I think Walkers took over Golden Wonder crisps and possibly Smiths and then they became more widespread

Yes. I like the Mandela Effect theory, although, I do fully believe it is just people misrembering.

I'd often watch the news and feel I'd already heard about certain things already happening. Or celeb deaths were a common one for me. It's interesting to Google and find others have had the same memory.

mirror mirror always gets me. people say you must remember from the book as the books say mirror mirror but the film doesn't. But I didn't even know there were Disney books. I asked my granddaughter when she was about 3 0r 4 ( she is now 10) "what does the queen say when she looks into the mirror" she said mirror mirror my granddaughter had only seen the film.




I have my own personal one. I remember exactly where I was when the Falklands war broke out I was in a woman's refuge because my 2nd husband was a violent nutter and I remember it clearly because a friend I had made in there phoned her son up in the middle of the night crying that we were now at war. I remember when Simon Weston came home and the news was full of it and we were sitting at the table in the refuge kitchen watching the only TV in the house.


The other day they were talking about it and how it started in 1982 my mind was blown. I was still with my 1st husband then not even met my 2nd one..
