Nursery nurse would be roughly equivalent to HCA, in the trust I trained at many moons ago they had the NNEB childcare qualification and were (I think) paid a band higher than HCAs on the old ABC Whitley council system - I don’t know if that was to recognise their qualification or they had slightly extended roles (only worked with them in A&E).
Totally agree with lynnssnazzycardigan about the kind of person Janet might be. She’s really put herself out on a limb for LL hasn’t she? Who knows if she truly believes in her innocence still, or if she’s just painted herself into a terrible lonely corner.

She doesn’t have professional registration to worry about either, and given that she seems to have retired, she won’t have needed to worry about burning any bridges at COCH.
I would be absolutely fascinated to hear the story of the unit, I know we’ve heard a bit from the consultants, but it must have been such an awful time for everyone else too.

Janet was on the nursing staff rota that showed Letby was present for every incident, so are we sure she wasn’t a nurse ?
Its strange her photo in the mail, I wonder if she’s given permission and away to sell her story about how she supports the evil cow.

I just wanted to add, as I feel bad about my earlier post. I’ve got the highest respect for nursery nurses. It was NNs that looked after my kids and made sure they thrived at nursery while I was at work. They are highly skilled in their field doing everything from nutrition, to developmental assessments, writing endless reports, making loads of happy memories, SEN provision and even speech and language assessments for mine and countless other kids. They hold a special place in my heart for being in loco parentis and making such a huge contribution to the wellbeing of my kids It’s just that Janet one boils me, I’ve worked with her kind (how I imagine her anyway) and I see her iykwim.

Just to chuck in that the Daily Mirror are running several articles on Letby, one about her relationship with 'Dr A'. Methinks they've been on Tattle, too!

You’d have to be pretty thick to still believe she’s innocent after sitting through all that evidence for months. Janet is a fool. Makes me wonder what sort of person she really is.

She probably just loves the attention of having an "imfamous" friend. She can gain special access to the court and has the press on her doorstep wanting to interview her. She is having her fifteen minutes of fame, in what is probably a very ordinary life.

I know exactly what you mean. There are great HCAs but many that have been in their post for too long and often feel threatened by newly qualified nurses.

The object of Letby's alleged affections, known only as Dr A, gave evidence against the killer nurse, who seemed visibly shaken as he made his appearance, even going as far as to try and leave the dock altogether, claiming she felt 'unwell'. Not believing this story, prosecutor Nick Johnson replied: "No, it's because you didn't like hearing your boyfriend giving evidence, did you?"

Dr Dewi Evans has spoken (briefly) on the BBC Radio 4’s Today programme saying that in June an LL supporter had written a complaint letter to the GMC about him.
Obviously the GMC have been obliged to contact him about this.

Not a lot, he was only on the stand for a few minutes I think prosecution knew exactly what they were doing and brought him out to get a reaction out of (and she delivered ). Myers had no questions for him so it wasn’t like it was defence that wanted to question the witness

A nurse accused of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill a further ten broke down in tears today as a paediatric consultant gave evidence.

Lucy Letby, 33, was visibly upset and even appeared to try to leave the courtroom as she stood in the dock and walked swiftly to the door leading to the cells.

A female security officer approached her for a hushed conversation.

Letby took a few moments to compose herself before returning to the seat she has occupied throughout her 16-week trial at Manchester Crown Court.

The outburst was triggered by the paediatrician, who cannot be named for legal reasons, beginning to give evidence from behind a privacy screen, blocking his view of the dock.

It prompted the trial judge, Mr Justice Goss, to ask a defence solicitor to 'just see what the problem is'.

A lawyer walked the few feet to the dock and spoke briefly to Letby through the glass screen, and moments later the defendant's barrister, Ben Myers KC, had his own conversation with her.

Letby was still wiping tears from her eyes, this time with tissues from a box beside her, as the proceedings resumed.

The consultant was asked for a second time to confirm his name and occupation. His evidence lasted only a few minutes as he took Philip Astbury, prosecuting, through some medical notes relating to Baby L, one of a set of twins whom Letby is alleged to have injected with insulin.

The consultant told the court the child's blood sugar levels were decreasing during the night shift and were 'lower than what I would have wanted'.

When asked why it was necessary to stop the levels falling, he said: 'Because low blood glucose levels in a baby can cause seizures.

'It's damaging to a baby. If it falls to a much lower level, then it can cause liver damage and brain injury.'

Mr Myers rose to say that he had no questions to ask in cross-examination.

That is genius...I did wonder why Doc Choc was asked so little on the stand and what the point of it was but you're probably spot on. Lucy thinks she's so clever but Big Nick totally had the measure of her! I wonder if he expected her to deliver as spectacularly as she did

What's the bet it's Drunky Mark wrote the letter?

He's got a proper bee in his bonnet about Dewi and on his videos during trial 1 he used to do a (terrible) Welsh accent when reading quotes from Dr Evans evidence. The sort of 70s comedian telling a joke about leek farmers accent. Implying the Welsh are a stupid and primitive people.

God he's vile that one.
