How does everyone’s engagement ring fit?

Just got engaged a few weeks ago, my ring mostly fits but at times feels like it slips over my knuckle a little too easy for my liking store advised ordering next size down but it feels slightly too tight
Which is better?

Can you not get it changed half a size down? . I was told you shouldn't be able to slip it off and it should take a slow pull over the knuckle.
