Joining the police?

Living in GM and working with GMP, for what it's worth, it's not a police force I'd choose at this time.
Special measures are absolutely terrible, and the area is massive, with a lot of crime that is mirrored in London, but without the Met funding.

Maybe look more into what each role demands in those police forces, because I know Lancs, which is just the next county, is amazingly funded and they look after their staff.

Ahh. I’ve seen the nppv1 form as where I work, people had to fill them in about their selves before working in a police station.
My issue is, I don’t want to have to tell my parents about my caution (I know that’s selfish and it was a long time ago) does my brother fill out my vetting info on my behalf? Or do I do it myself?

He’ll fill it out on your behalf but usually it’ll ask for any convictions/cautions within a certain time, after 13 years it’s shouldn’t be an issue

This is fact, I know someone who did not get into a police force because of friends he has as well. The level they vet you at the police is quite high

You could get a role in cyber crime or intelligence as a civilian? Have you looked into that? I worked for the police in various civilian roles for 14 years. In my experience 99% of Police Officers are very unhappy. Its quite a toxic environment. The rank system means challenging someone 'superior' is frowned upon which I struggled with because a lot of them were complete idiots.

Hi. I’m hoping someone notices this comment on this thread!

My younger half brother is in the process of applying to get into the police and i hadn’t realised that his family members are vetted. I have never lived with him, there’s more than a 10 year ago gap between us (which is neither here nor there). About 13 years ago me and a friend got a caution for shoplifting (I know, embarrassing) and I’ve never told anyone. I’m now panicking this will come up and deter him from getting into the police. Does anyone know what kind of checks they do for immediate family? Do you get contacted individually to be vetted?
