She is unintelligible in speech! Jesus Christ! The difference will be staggering between the older kids in her year. She won’t emotionally be able to cope. Some kids are ready, but they’re a minority. Goldie does not strike me as anywhere near ready. How do I think this when I’ve only seen snippets on a social account, yet her own mother seems to be so far up her own giant ass she can’t work out what’s best for her kids?

Goldie might say she’s excited etc., but when she hasn’t been given the chance to process the transition it’s going to manifest in other ways. Be prepared for major meltdowns, struggling to listen in class, needing additional teacher attention for behaviour. Basically all the things you’re meant to do as a parent (allow months, yes months) to prepare kids that age for school, the Wilson’s have totally failed. Rushing her through the process is going to affect her social and emotional wellbeing, and her parents are going to be paying for that for YEARS to come. Academically, it all comes out in the wash, but socially and emotionally… Big mistake. Huge.

I genuinely haven’t heard anybody say the word ‘frigid’ in relation to sex in 20+ years. Those were the bad days when we were nasty teenagers perpetuating terrible, cruel attitudes about sex and our bodies. She is unbelievably immature.

My daughter just started prep last week. She turns 6 in June, so is an entire year older than Goldie. I’m sure she would have been fine to go at 4.5, but I don’t want my kid to be fine, and always be struggling and behind. The confidence she has developed physically, socially, emotionally in the last year is so huge. It’s the difference between thriving and surviving.
One of my daughter’s friends turns 6 at the end of Feb, so will be 15 months older than Goldie.
As a teacher, even if they are ready in prep it’s in the later years it catches up. Year 3/4, when there is a big friendship shift, early high school with puberty, later high school with emotional maturity making risky decisions around drinking, getting into cars, sex…
