I would expect since he lay there dead for so long and was in such a state of decomp they wouldn't be able to tell.

I assume they could test nails /hair/eyeballs/insects/soil to see if drugs were taken. If Jay had taken say hallucinogenic drugs and decided to jump down into the ravine...that would need to be eliminated.
I suppose more may be revealed at the inquest?
