"I got into the habit of learning three to five things about each student"

Excellent, he'd obviously learnt that from the great Dr Dr Jack Monroe! Didn't she have a job interview where she was the only one special enough to know the name of the cleaning lady?

This is the most stinking pile of unreadable, mawkish shite I’ve ever read.

Seriously, a Cambridge ‘professor’ and a professional ghostwriter collaboratively spewed out this rubbish, and a major publisher supposedly paid £1.4 million for it?

Those students of his were in an impossible position. If he wasn’t supervising them adequately, and they complained, they’d immediately be accused of racism. And the university would almost certainly have backed him up. So you can see why they’d prefer to keep quiet. They’d be afraid that an accusation of racism if upheld might lead to suspension or even expulsion, and could affect their whole career.
Given that he was prepared to sic the police on an academic and a journalist who questioned him, I can only imagine how intimidating and aggressive he could be when challenged by students or colleagues.

Weaponising racism against students who only requested a different supervisor, with good reason, says a lot about how Arday kept the grift going for so long. (Regardless who did the accusing). Imagine how many were afraid to speak up at all. What a sorry state of affairs.
I was thinking this. When I was at uni there were a few lecturers we regarded as being a bit rubbish, but the prospect of raising a formal complaint was very daunting ~ and that's without any of them being an alleged global academic superstar!

I get that things are very different now, given that students now have more 'purchasing power' and unis need to be seen to provide bang for their buck, so maybe the balance of power isn't quite as pronounced nowadays, but even so, as an 18/19/20-yr-old, making your first steps in the world, you'd need balls of steel in order to denounce the most stellar professor in living memory as being 'not very good at his job'.

I'll be honest; I love this story. We've all come across fantasists like him and hoped the day would come when their tangled web of lies comes crashing down.

What I can't understand is why his face is so fucking shiny! Is it Botox?

I feel no shame or remorse for the web of lies that I have woven about my life. I didn‘t pass GCSE Maths and have brazenly stated that I did indeed get a Grade C. I didn’t overcome dyscalculia, I just lied through my back teeth and avoided doing resits. 😂

Apologies for bombing the thread. THE BRASS BALLS ON THIS FUCKER!!!

(This is a mere five lines after he’s a pool shark and just over a page after the dyslexia doc with perfect recollection of him and Ma Giff).

A primary school classmate speaks out

How come none of his classmates or anyone from his primary school have come out before this? I remember when he was on This Morning and it gave so many parents of non verbal autistic kids hope. What a shitty thing to lie about.

Maybe they hadn’t heard what he’d been up to, maybe they didn’t realise how bad it was, maybe they didn’t want to be piled on, maybe they know he’s a vindictive arse, maybe they did but nobody listened.

The Salt Path was the same. The boss with cancer she stole 90k from and only returned in exchange for an NDA had died soon after. His wife said “I’ve been waiting for this call” when the journalist got in touch. She didn’t know if she was allowed to speak up. Estranged family members called the publishers, nobody wanted to know.

Endlessly fascinated with himself and how quirky and unusual he is. As a teenager he wasn’t into Hole (Courtney Love’s Band) tho. View attachment 4086490View attachment 4086491“me, with the Afro I was trying to grow to emulate one of my heroes Jimi Hendrix”.

ETA: oh fucking hell, here we go again. Chapter Nine. Having already conquered football, he’s about to become a (selfless) snooker prodigy thanks to Ma’s further televisual ‘deduce-ings’

I dunno what the editor of this book was thinking, they seem to have removed “and then everybody clapped” from every memory.

I’m losing the will to live screenshotting the last couple of chapters from his stroke to his viva to his Cambridge appointment, so I’ll post those tomorrow. In the meantime tho, as we’ve all been waiting so patiently, here’s the Epilogue, where, at long, long last, EVERYBODY CLAPS AND CHEERS and Jase dedicates words of wisdom to us, one and all. And no, the purpose of The Great and Unfortunate Things Playlist* is never made apparent.

*brought to you by Diesel flared jeans and Savile Row.
What a lovely lie to tell to people who already beat themselves up far too much - you all aren't pushing hard enough for your nuerodivergent child. If you were like Giff, your child will suddenly, magically learn to talk and communicate. Hang in there, Jason wants you to know he cares!

This is the part that upsets me. The rest of the fraud is funny in its way. This bullshit he's trying to feed to parents is utterly sick, and he seems to know exactly what he's doing with that little message at the end.

Asshole.

I doubt she would do it, though I'm sure there are journalists offering her eye-watering wads of cash for an exclusive right now, but his ex-wife's account of her life with him would make for fascinating reading.

Having been in a relationship with someone who was very loose with the truth, I'd bet my life-savings that it was the lying that sank the marriage.

So at 18 he learned to read and write and by 22 he was considering a PhD? But he didn’t have any A levels. So he would have had to done an access course and then an undergraduate degree before even thinking about a doctorate.

I don’t know why I’m trying to make this make sense. None of it does.

ETA that woman from Cambridge is a fucking embarrassment. She clearly has never met any black people beyond someone serving her in a shop or something and her deferential obsequious behaviour is pathetic. Broaden your social circles. Engage with things outside your comfort zones. But do not lose all your critical thinking ability because a black man who isn’t doing a service job is sitting in front of you.

Again, these people need to work on their racism but this is not the way to do it.

I have just realised who JA reminds me of! I asked Chatgpt to confirm name & details.and it is John Corcoran American high school teacher who wrote a book called The Teacher Who Couldn't Read.

He claims to have spent 17 years as a teacher whilst being illiterate and managed to pass college exams by sitting by an open window as friends whispered him the answers. He could not write, but memorised the layout of the keyboard etc etc. before learning to read and write in his late 40s.

I think JA may have borrowed from his book.

Cambridge should be sweating. When I was 18 I was heartbroken I didn't get a place at Oxford (I had no real chance at the time, but got swept up in the idea), and I thought Oxbridge would be some mythical place of wonder and excellence. Now as a 30something who has had several jobs and worked with chancers and narcs and egos, I can easily see how folk like Arday end up on their thrones. It's all PR and networking. Some good hardworking clever eggs in those institutions too, but often overlooked and beaten into submission and apathy by having to work alongside the likes of liars like Arday.

His schoolmate has several valid points. If you're doing shit like this, you're not looking to hype up your area and old schoolmates. You move quietly and away from people who have always had your number.

I mean before it blew up the way it did, I'd never heard of him either and I read the Guardian daily. My neurodivergence is new, to me, so I'm not keyed into who has what and how from years ago. No kids to see this guy as a beacon of hope (infuriated for those affected). Not in academia and so on.

The focus has been amplified thus shining a massive light on his lies and falsehoods. So I fully appreciate and understand the tiktok guy laughing. Not only was Arday not mute, he was singing. What a miraculous transformation.
