Tbh there’s so much to recap and our lovely @Valiofthedolls is doing the Lord’s Work with the sharing of the fictional autobiography excerpts, suffice to say his career’s in tatters. I bet he really DOES wish he was non verbal and illiterate now (the latter is up for debate given the standard of his prose…)

Would just like to edit to say my last post, of course I’m not talking about serious things that need to change, like racism etc, rather grifting behaviour where everyone is soo desperate to be noticed and unique

to go back to a previous point, I think you will all find that plucky hero Jase couldn't have told the university about his brain tumour because, as he said, it might have delayed his viva.

IIRC needed the viva to become a Dr in time for the imaginary timeline imposed from the job he had where he must become a Dr by date x or else.

He is the best one at surmounting improbable challenges.

I think this is a lot of the problem with some influencers (and obviously people like Jason). Its not enough to tell the truth, they have to embellish it to seem unique. Its one thing to maybe slightly exaggerate or change minor details to make a story sound better or make more sense, but making up improbable shit is just lying.

I can't get over how dreadful his book is. Not a shred of humour or self-awareness. He is a remarkably uncurious man, surrounded by supporting characters who exist only to bolster Jason and deliver inspirational monologues about how he is destined for greatness.

There isn't a solitary moment of self deprecating humour. The Sainsbury's job isn't allowed to be boring or funny or populated by colleagues who take the piss out of him. It's Humble Jason Among the Noble Workers, during which a wise colleague apparently recognises his destiny and delivers the fucking Sermon on the Mount by the cereal aisle.

Jason had never been merely the dickhead who misunderstood something. Nobody apparently thinks something completely different from him and turns out to be right. Nobody says something hilarious that has nothing whatsoever to do with his journey. And that's really noticable to me, because other people are funny (as these threads demonstrate). If you genuinely like people and spend your life talking to them, you'll accumulate thousands of stories in which they get the punchline. The absence of that in someone claiming to be fascinated by people with his natural sociological mind is really fucking telling.

I thought I’d watch this video for Jase‘s insights on neurodiversity in education, being as it’s a topic I’m particularly interested in.
It was not illuminating

He repeatedly refers to his research on it but I can only find the book which he coauthored with fellow grifter Chantelle Lewis and which is about their own personal experiences of being black and ND in higher education

I've been inspired to start my own autobiography, which is all my own work and good luck proving I copied it from someone else.

I'm currently writing a chapter about the early days of the internet where I physically carried emails from one computer to another, often shoeless, often through that part of Die Hard where the floor's covered in glass.

Got to admit, I kind of zoned out listening to that. He wasn't saying anything of substance. I know Arday was just one of many professors at Cambridge, but imagine paying over £9,000 a year and getting him as a lecturer. I'm baffled by the lack of due diligence, not just by Cambridge, but all the institutions who endorsed him.

Sidenote: I share your interest in neurodiversity. The topic is interesting in its own right, but I was recently given a diagnosis of autism (suspected it for years) and dyspraxia (a complete surprise), so I've been trying to learn more about those diagnoses for personal reasons. It's been really helpful. I'm slightly concerned that Arday will add fuel to the people who think ND is just a trend.

Not familiar with Chantelle Lewis. Why's she a grifter?

So, tbw research he's done, as he's saying is basically not useful as it's too broad? Surely the point of a PhD is too really narrow things down and have a small very specific focus?

Giff was a social worker, mental health nurse(?) Jack Monroe's parents fostered kids, I hope I'm remembering this correctly. So Jason and Jack would have heard or known various complicated, sad back stories. I think they both cherry picked the bits that fitted their fairy stories, but if course of it didn't happen to you it's hard to keep the story straight.
