Never sacked (vvvv close once tho), but ive walked out of 3 jobs. I put 2 of them down as references and just hoped for the best. Nowadays they just ask for dates of employment. I work in HR now, and our ref forms do include questions about why they left/do you know of any reasons to be concerned but theyre listed as optional.

I was sacked from a call centre job after an argument with a supervisor who grabbed my arm and I used a wrist release to make him let go. This did not involve any form of striking, hitting, etc - it was just me pulling my arm up to break his grip. But he said I had physically attacked him, and threatened to call the police. I said that was fine, and I would tell them he'd grabbed me. The company just left it at that and sacked me

At the time, I was a temp so I just went back to the agency and they found me something else

I haven’t been fired but my dad was. He was in a technical role, wasn’t given training and support that he needed and was ultimately dismissed for capability. He was told he would have a case for unfair dismissal but wasn’t in a great place so didn’t pursue it.

He kept the job on his cv, and got another job no problems in the same field. I would image his references were standard “he worked here from x to y”, and it didn’t seem to affect his employability

I haven't but my brother was. He'd been in the role for around five years, had always had good appraisals, but got called into a meeting with his boss and HR where he was handed a written statement saying they wanted him to leave immediately and giving reasons for his incompetence. It was totally out of the blue.

Of course it was down to a clash with his manager who obviously decided he didn't like him. My brother couldn't talk to any members of staff about it, so couldn't even say goodbye. He also had to surrender his company phone immediately as if he was going to steal it!

They offered severance pay, but he pushed for more and wrote a long reply statement that refuted every one of their points. They ended up offering him a lot more as they were presumably scared of a tribunal. He got another job soon after but it's always made me wary since because it was obvious that if a company decides they don't want you, they can get rid of you like that.
