Itchy Hot Scalp

I went to the doctors yesterday so she could examine my scalp

She said she couldn't see any signs of 'disease' so doesn't think it's eczema or psoriasis etc but that it's probably because I have thick hair I've had thick hair all of my life and never had any scalp issues

I've been prescribed a treatment with a steroid in it to use twice a day for 2 weeks, sorry can't remember the name of it as it was out of stock in the pharmacy so I am going back today to collect it. She said it can only be used for 2 weeks as it thins your skin so that sounds promising

I have dandrozel prescribed to me and it really helps x

The doctor said if the treatment she's given me doesn't work she's going to give me Dandrazol to try

Sounds like contact dermatitis, antihistamines could help short term but like you say you’re going to need to be referred to a dermatologist. Maybe try a mild baby shampoo I’m sure simple do a baby range

I take fexofenadine for hay fever but that doesn't seem to have made a difference either.

Are you sure its not head lice? I'm not being rude but anyone can get them and they are very itchy. Can someone look through your hair for you? No one on here can say really as it could be 100s of things. I'd just go to the Drs they are starting seeing people again now.X

Do you dye your hair? Sounds like an allergic reaction...
I found certain hair protection sprays made my scalp itch. Also could be your washing powder. Your hair is on your pillow.

Yeah I’ve dyed my hair various colours for over 15 years and never had any issues.

I stopped using heat protect spray during lockdown and just use a leave in hair mask but it doesn’t go near my scalp.

I’ve always used the blue aerial gel and just whatever fabric softener is on offer but I could try a different detergent.

Switch to child's farm shampoo and conditioner and go to non bio laundry detergent. See of they make a difference

To be honest I think it's a cop out from the doctor.

I've just picked up my prescription and it's something called Betacap

Strange she didn't think it was psoriasis etc but this is what Betacap is for:

Betacap Scalp Application is for use on the scalp to treat skin diseases including psoriasis (scaly, pink patches of thickened skin) and seborrhoeic dermatitis (scaly, itchy patches of skin).
