What do you do to prevent ingrown hairs, specifically the groin area? I have a huge one from shaving and am trying to get rid of it!

I wouldn't recommend shaving as I found it made them worse but I still get them. I was told certain face toners (will need to double check which one it has acid in it) helps massively. It is the same acid which is in the ingrown hair remover but half the price! I exfoliate every other day as well and also have found a pumice stone can help (I use it from the chicken skin I get on my arms too)

Apply a hot compress to the area, try to give it a gentle squeeze to release the hair or use a pair of tweezers to lift the hair and pluck it out. Pop a dab of tee tree oil on it.
There’s also a product called Ingrow Go that you can use to exfoliate the area every day to prevent them from happening.

Second this. I have a little routine... shave in the evening, then just before bed I sudocreme to calm it down (I always wait a few hours so it doesn’t clog the open pores). Then the following morning I go in with the “ingrow go” mentioned above. I exfoliate know the shower every day too and repeat the process. It’s not perfect but helps a LOT. I also pluck any ingrown hairs out from the root if I see them appearing xx

No idea if this is right but I’ve been told not to actually pull the hair out once you...erm... unravel it (sorry 🤢) as then the follicle will heal over or something? Supposedly we’re meant to let things heal around the hair and that way future hairs won’t get blocked. Or something.

I found some good tips on reddit.

1. Exfoliate.
2. Baby oil or shaving cream.
3. Shave.
4. Dry razor.
5. Out of shower, apply witch hazel, aftershave cream and some apply deodorant to stop it drying out/in grown hair to bikini line.

These tips were from strippers 😅.

For ingrown hairs, use a product with benzoyl peroxide in it to draw the hair to the surface. Neutrogena actually have an acne product with this ingredient that you can use. I have it.

Will let you know how it goes 😂

Benzoyl peroxide is on prescription in the UK, this specific neutrogena product isn’t available here so I guess it depends on where the OP is based.

Definitely more prevention but exfoliating helps and I try to wear Brazilian knickers that don’t rub up the side of my groin as much! Hot compress, tweezers and tea tree to help once I have one x

Exfoliate regularly and always moisturise the area after you exfoliate, that is super important.

I know this thread is old but I must share something because it’s been a real life saver!!

Revitale Salicylic Acid Scrub Soap (every shower, bath)

I suffer with really bad ingrown hairs, I have done for the past year now since getting waxed and when I have a bad one I dab tea tree oil on it a few times a day if I remember, but at the very least I put a dab on before bed. Heals within days!

Exfoliate the area before hair removal. Then keep exfoliating in the days following hair removal. Use an exfoliating glove or sponge to rub down the area in circular motions with an exfoliating scrub. Moisturise after exfoliating. If you have an ingrown hair, try a hot compress and then gently pushing the hair out with fingers or using sterile tweezers to pull the hair free. Use tea tree oil or similar to dab on the area to avoid infection
