Incident at Bondi Beach

The Islamic State has also claimed the two terrorists as 'soldiers'
Angelo Bani, who led INTERPOL's Counter-Terrorism Fusion Task Force, said the move by Islamic State was part of a propaganda strategy to extend its influence.

Mr Bani, who now runs the private consultancy firm Protective Intelligence Network in Singapore, said the group was trying to inspire imitation of what he described as "self-directed" terrorism.

Bondi Beach terrorist Sajid Akram voiced support for Islamic State (IS) in 2019 and expressed admiration for a leading Al Qaeda propagandist, according to accounts from two men who moved in the same extremist circles.

"By glorifying attackers and framing their actions as heroic, Islamic State seeks to encourage other radicalised individuals to carry out similar acts independently," Mr Bani said.

"Extremist groups no longer need to direct attacks in a traditional command-and-control sense to achieve operational impact.

"Their most effective weapon has become the ability to project narratives into the digital space, identify receptive audiences, and transform ideology into action without ever meeting the perpetrator."

Just washed the start of the Sydney versus Carlton AFL opening season game.

They had invited representatives of the emergency responders, police, Bondi rescue (they have a TV series following them on the beach), Jewish protection officers and Ahmed Al Ahmed from the Bondi massacre.

It was sad watching Ahmed leaving the stadium his arm still in a sling and his fingers just hanging there moving only in time when he is walking.

So very sad! Obviously the acute trauma team in the US were not able to help him. Possibly in time he will opt for amputation given limbs that are nerve dead become more of a hindrance and medical issue to leave hanging as opposed to having them amputated.
Sadly all the Gofundme in his account cannot give life to his shattered arm. I hope he goes forward able to live a good life!

I note tonight the Iranian women’s soccer team sang their Anthem. They’re playing us on the Gold-coast.
It must be hard and traumatic for them knowing their families are back in Iran being bombed pillar to post.
That’s a lot of mental trauma for young fragile minds.

I saw the Iranian girls at the news conference last night.
Obviously they were quite upset. One of the girls talking was almost in tears.
(Even though they had an interpreter she was from somewhere in Europe and I couldn't understand some of what the poor girl said.)

I saw it too
It was touching and with raw emotion. Interesting that if any of those girls from the soccer team and/or their management applied for asylum, they would have significant grounds to be granted it.
How hard would that be; leaving life in Iran to begin a new one yet having all your family and friends left behind.
I cannot imagine how they must feel just thinking about going back there. Regime change or not, it will take half these girls lifetime to initiate change and during that time they could be killed. Unfathomable.

Can any Aussie Tattlers confirm this, it seems like one group are saying it was about religion and another saying it had nothing to do with religion?

Not an Aussie, but considering their main targets were Jews, it's pretty clear it was motivated by religion. I don't care what religion the shooters were, or if they were even religious at all, they targeted Jewish people, including babies, celebrating a Jewish holiday. Their motivation was very clear.

I don’t think there is too much emphasis being placed on two schools of thought.
I would think and hope everyone is now on the same page because Bondi was absolutely to do with religion.
I believe Krissy Barrett (Police Commissioner) did originally state a few days after Bondi ‘this was an act of terrorism not motivated by religion’, based purely on the early information of links to ISIS.
The links to a terrorist organization and what role that played will obviously be demonstrated in the RC findings, but overall consensus implies this attack was motivated by religion.

I do not follow a lot of SM platforms given the frequency of misinformation and because the talk is targeted and more than often, overwhelmingly disgusting. Who needs that nonsense to ruin an otherwise lovely day 🌼

I’ve seen quite a few people wanting the police/government to release the video manifesto but if most people are believing that this was religion based then what need would there be to release something that could potentially radicalise people?

Agree. What would be that need and for whose benefit?
Also, the trial for the accused is yet to begin and respect needs to be given to protect every piece of evidence so nothing is lost from getting the best possible outcome from that trial.

Do you know if the trial might be this year? I can imagine it’s going to be quite an operation not only with gathering evidence etc but the security aspect, raising tensions during the process etc.

He is due back in court in April. A trial date has not to date been set, but one of the legal teams has implied dates may be discussed at the next hearing (in April) and the case could possibly commence in 2026 and run through until 2027 given the evidence.

Not sure why it would / should be left for the accused to request this suppression order and equally I’m shocked that it has been approved ~ albeit it’s only interim at this stage.
I see the suppression order request from this evil piece of 💩 was rejected. Thank heavens!

Ironic that he applied for it to protect his mum and sister after his killing spree …
