How to keep my hair straight after straightening

Hi everyone

I’m on the hunt for new hair products..
I have naturally curly hair but I have been straightening my hair for around 10 years with a mix of ghd’s and babyliss. Even with 10 years of heat, a few hours after straightening my hair starts going wavy, and then in the morning I wake up with half of it curly.

Can anyone recommend any good straightening serums, leave in conditioners, or any other products to help keep it straight?

It’s driving me crazy 🤣

Possibly a better routine when doing your hair rather than the product, start with a good base shampoo and conditioner, I recommend keraste personally. Then blow-dry product, use a good technique to blow-dry and smooth your hair out as much as possible before straightening - good brush and keep your noodles down following the brush. Have you thought about loreal airpod straighteners? Definitely longer lasting results i find..

I agree with hair drying, invest in a good hairdryer. I got a GHD hairdryer for my birthday and my hair stays so sleek compared to my old hairdryer. I have very wavy/curly hair for reference.

I would also say a moisturising shampoo and conditioner helps.

I’m sorry I can’t help but I have the opposite problem - keeping my hair curly after I curl it!

Oh I’ve heard good things about keraste! I’ll add it to my shopping list. Thanks😁

Thank you for the advice. I’ve actually just purchased the revlon one step dryer after seeing so many good reviews online. My hair looked ok ish for about 30 mins and then gradually went wavy after a few hours 😭

Oh no  I wish I could help

I use 1 too, lighter to use and seems alot kinder to my hair whilst staying straight for longer.

Have you tried the range wet brush? I've a few different ones, recently added a flexi one that kind of looks like that vodus brush and its good.. I also have a wet brush round brush for smoothing.. Good brand

Also make sure to take your time, small sections and slow with the straighteners, dont just go over fast a pile of times

product is important! Use a blowdry product with hold and blowdry ur hair as smooth as you can from the root, product holds in the blowdry then flat irons to seal in Blowdry 😄

Can you recommend any? I’ve used a couple blow dry creams but none of them have made a difference

This product is amazing. Spray it onto wet hair- it’s then activated by heat. I sometimes let my hair dry naturally (and then use hair straightener) to avoid double heat! My hair stays silky straight. 10/10 would recommend!
Amazing thank you! X

My hair doesn't stay straight if I try too hard to straighten it . When it was longer I used to blow dry it , then tie it in a loose plait otherwise the ends just curled up.

Yeah I’d recommend colour wow too! Bought it on a whim from an insta ad but it does make a difference. My hair is very naturally frizzy and other than if it’s affected by the weather, tends to hold the straight a lot better.

Use straightening shampoo and conditioner then a straightening product before you use your GHD's.

Lee Stafford ‘Poker Straight’ shampoo and conditioner is really good. Use the conditioner sparingly though, I always shampoo twice and go through the shampoo bottles 2:1 to the conditioner.

Also echoing the proper blow dying, section your hair and use a round brush to pull it down and use your hairdryer with the air blowing downwards. Make sure your hair is properly dry too there’s no point straightening it if it’s still a bit damp or retaining moisture as it will go curly again quickly.

I have a really good round brush, it’s a Babyliss one and it’s half bristles and half a smooth ceramic surface and I find that really helps to straighten as I blow dry as it seems to ‘smooth’ the hair.

PS this is all coming from someone who looks like a Hagrid impersonator if I let my hair dry naturally

thanks guys :) I really take my time when I blow dry and straighten but it doesn’t seem to make a difference! 😢

I purchased the revlon one step blowdry brush over the weekend (£60!!) after seeing so many good curly hair reviews. My hair looked ok for the afternoon but by the morning it was back to being wavy 😂

Argh how annoying! My auntie has her hair Brazilian blow dried and it does really work. She has thick black curly hair, she pays $400 to have it done but says it’s worth it!

Embrace your natural curly hair! It might be far easier to keep your curly hair and look at ways of caring for it/styling it rather than having a never ending battle trying to get it to go straight?

I wish I could embrace it! When my hair is curly I feel so weird/frumpy.

Oh really. I’ve never heard of a Brazilian blow dry! I’ll give it a google. Thank you 😀

I have curly hair. I try not to straighten it now as the damage is too much but I’ve perfected a good blow dry, I have tried all sorts really expensive stuff and less so: I absolutely swear by original John Frieda frizz ease. I put a small amount on after washing and conditioning then run another small amount through as a finishing product: I can go out in humidity and light rain and be fine now.

I’d love to embrace my curls but believe it or not it’s actually far more maintenance
