I do my regular weekly cleaning, such as kitchen counters, sink and floor, bathroom and I hoover twice weekly. The cupboards get emptied out once a year to be cleaned inside but if I spill something or notice a spill I clean there and then, I clean out the fridge whenever I notice it needs doing. Skirting boards get hoovered weekly but I clean them about 3 times a year. Couch gets pulled out whenever partner is home when I'm hoovering the living room but I've never pulled out the sideboard or bookshelf to do behind them, strangely! I do wipe the walls down if I notice they are dusty but never cleaned them but I have no children so no mucky handprints on them. The doors get a wipe down about once a year. Windows are cleaned only in the warmer months about once a month, inside and out. My partner has his regular cleaning jobs, he cleans kitchen and bathroom floor, toilet, bathroom sink and hoovers the hall and spare room but he never does any deep cleaning apart from the windows.

I forgot to add, 'clean skirting boards / trims' and 'clean windows - inside and outside' to my original list.

I was curious to see what others do after my catch-up with a friend last weekend got me thinking ... she said that every single day she "has to" follow this list of certain things that need to be done (she lives alone and this is her list that she tells herself that she must follow). Her house is incredible (just an ordinary house but it always smells and FEELS great), so all her hard work is obviously paying off. But she did say that she's finding it hard to visit other peoples' houses due to their lack of hygiene (which made me gulp - although I keep my house clean I probably only deep clean everything every couple of months or so).

I have another friend who pays for a cleaner to do all these things who also follows some sort of regular list but meaning that everything gets deep-cleaned at least weekly. Again, her house is immaculate and just feels so good to be in.

After reading others' responses, I think I fit into the 'normal' category. I'd love to live in an immaculately clean house but with flying pine needles and what-not everywhere (we live in the country), four cats and two hairy, dribbly, dogs, the best I can hope for is "good enough."
I don’t think not deep cleaning your house every day is unhygienic. I have a toddler and I don’t have time to be scrubbing carpets and door frames every day 😊 I do enjoy cleaning though, when I get chance to do it, and if I notice things looking dirty I’ll clean it. I tend to have a weekly list I do every weekend religiously, but pulling furniture out etc is a bi monthly thing if I can be bothered. Our house is only very small though so I don’t feel we have much to deep clean anyway!

Genuine question - how do you wash walls? I feel like if I did that all the paint would come off? Or am I being mega thick 🤣😬

Christmas / Easter mainly. Deep clean my bedroom like once a month? (Pull bed out, dust curtain pole/light shade/top of wardrobe) etc.

I clean in some shape or form everyday though.

... As in, pull all the furniture away from the walls and vacuum, shampoo the carpets, wash the walls, pull everything out of cupboards to clean them before putting it all back again, etc., etc.?
Never? 😆

We have a cleaner once a week who scrubs down the bathrooms like a woman possessed until everything sparkles and shines. She wipes down all of the kitchen cupboards and surfaces, dusts and vacuums the whole house, and washes the floors downstairs.

During the week, we clean up the kitchen every night after cooking and I run around with the vacuum cleaner a fair bit as my dog and I trek in so much dirt from our walks.

I clean the fridge/microwave/cupboards/dishwasher/washing machine as and when I notice that it's looking a bit manky. I dab off any marks that I notice on the wall with a Magic Eraser as and when I see them.

I'd say we keep on top of things at home, but I never set aside days for a huge deep clean.

When I move 😶 and the longest I've stayed anywhere is 5ish years. Although I do like to keep things minimal and empty in places like under the bed which does minimise stuff building up.

I do a big clean (all surfaces/windows etc) every other week though more some during lockdown and a top up clean (just not windows or skirtings) every week.

I generally do a deep clean before Christmas. We’ve lived her 3 years and I have never moved or done under the sofa/bookcase/tv unit 😂

Husband thinks I have a cleaning problem though 🤷🏻‍♀️ I do live in a clean house and I have a thing about things being just so and done.

So what is she cleaning daily? Surely not her skirting boards.

Life is too short! I'm sure her house is lovely, but to me I think she sounds a little compulsive obsessive. Does she work?
I'm sure she does do skirting boards daily. Her home is lovely yes, but you're not allowed to sit on certain chairs or use certain cushions as they're for display purposes only. And yes, I do agree she is obsessive. She works part-time.

Okay not going to lie this thread has made my feel very guilty and I have done a big clean this morning (I have not moved any furniture though). Cleaning walls... I will wipe a mark off etc and dust but nothing more. Why is their flying poo anywhere else but possibly the bathroom?!?
Fly / insect poo! Not flying poo

We live in a warm area where there are a lot of flies ... blasted things ...

About 4 times a year I’ll take everything out the cupboards and sort it, clean the fridge and oven etc... I never do any of those other things you listed though! However I’ve always rented and never stayed in the same place for more than a couple of years!

I clean a room a day, and clean the whole thing - windows and frames, light fixtures and switches, all surfaces, skirting boards, doors and frames, the walls if they need marks off them. And I move the sofas in those rooms and Hoover under/behind them on that same day.

So everywhere in the house gets a full clean once a week at least. Bathrooms get wiped down more often, and our bedroom sometimes too as it gets insanely dusty for some reason.

I rarely clean my car out! My husband does sometimes, but the most I do is clear my sweet wrappers out of the door once every 6 months 🙈

Wash walls- never unless decorating.

Pull furniture out to hoover/dust, once a week. Sofa, beds, etc. Heavy furniture. ......... .....

Shampoo carpets- once a year.

Kitchen- every night., surfaces/ floor. Empty kitchen cupboards, about every three months.

Other cupboards, when I have to open and quickly throw something in and close again with our it all falling on top of me

Hardly ever 😅 to be fair though, I do sort out and clean all my cupboards every couple of weeks. The hoovering is always done. Washing walls - a big fat NEVER haha

We do a big "deep" clean once a year around spring time (this includes paint touch-ups, changing furnace filters, etc)

But every day I run the handheld Dyson over the floor and sweep, wipe the counters, wipe the stove.

And a few times a week clean the toilet, wipe the mirrors, etc when needed.

I do a big clean every weekend which involves: washing bedsheets/towels, vacuuming with the proper vacuum (floors, baseboards), dust furniture/stair banisters/blinds, mop hardwood, and tile, clean the toilet/shower/sinks and bathroom counters.

We have a dog and sometimes he sneezes on the walls so when I notice it, I will clean them... the best thing to clean them with is baby wipes. They remove everything without leaving a mark behind.

I have a mixture of painted and timber walls; I mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid in a large bucket of hot water and dunk a microfibre cloth into the mixture and give the walls a gentle wipe. I go back over what I've just wiped with a clean tea towel to dry. It gets rid of all the fly poop and goodness knows what else is on the walls and not visible to the naked eye. I also do my ceilings in a similar way (but using an extendable mop); if the marks don't shift, then I use a bit of Selleys Sugar Soap.

Your place must be so clean. Dunno how people have time for that tho, or are you just super organised 🤣
Ha! There are 4 kids here, my husband and a dog (and me but I’m not messy 🤣) so we are always bogging no matter how much I clean! It only takes me about half an hour each day, which I do when the toddler is napping. In such a routine with it now it seems to take no time at all! ETA: a bit longer at weekends when my husband is about and the kids are well occupied. Bathrooms take me a while because I hate doing them!

Wow that’s crazy! How do you have time! Xxx

I dont - the lovely little hand carwash folks do! It's been an absolute cesspit during lockdown. I usually take it every payday for a full inside & out valet.
