I have expensive frames and not expensive lenses, these are for driving. My prescription hardly altered in two years . I have two year old prescription Gucci sunglasses with polarised lenses, they were expensive but I wear them everyday in the summer and bright days so to me they are worth it.
I usually get the 2 for 1 deal from Specsavers so I can get glasses and sunglasses, so usually £150 approx. for the 2 pairs as I like the designer ones.
For the first time ever I paid £300+ for the most beautiful glasses I have ever owned. As I wear them all day thought it would be a great investment, within 3 weeks I had lost them, left them in a seat pocket of a train as I had taken them off to go to sleep, woke up as the train was pulling into our station and dashed off the train. As it was pulling out I realised my eyesight was not good and it was too late. Did ring but nobody had found them and the insurance cover was for me to pay the first £200 so back to cheaper ones.
Mine were £180 from specsavers then obviously had another pair free.

I have to wear mine all the time now, I did only need for VDU but I knew my eyes had changed and I was getting daily headaches.
I wanted contacts but as no one is fitting for contact lenses at the moment due to covid19 had to get specs for now. I have just paid £184 for the eye test, the frames were £89 bogof and then £35 per pair for anti glare.
Quite like wearing them so I don't think I will get contacts after all.

I paid £110 at Vision Express two years ago and will be due for another eye test soon. I use mine for VDU & TV so the lenses are practically glorified windows that make screens sharper 
I might go to Specsavers for my next test as my local Vision Express has a creepy small guy who stares right into my eyes and he gives me the ick.
Most of VE's frames for woman are quite weird so I opted for a pair of mens instead and he was like OoOoOoOoh GEEK CHIC ILL GIVE U UR TEST FOR 10 POUNDS

I’m really short sighted, so need really thick lenses; they’re the most expensive part as I get ultra thin, varifocal lenses, so they don’t look like Coke bottle Bottoms.

I really wanted metal frames but I was told my prescription was just to thick for any of them (at least all the options I'd given them) so they'd stick out too much and be too heavy. So they could only offer me acetate ones and they kept offering me ones that they thought would look good first, rather than actually ask what I was looking for. Like pushing me to try on a new Tommy Hilfiger frame (even though it was going to be way out of my student budget). Even when I first arrived and give them the list of frames I liked (literally all purples and burgundy), I got told they "wanted me to try a green pair too because "we think they'll really suit you".
To be fair, I don't strictly hate the frames they've given me but they weren't the pair I'd really wanted (made worse by falling in love with the frames I did want in person, just to be told it's unlikely I'd ever be allowed them
). It's more that I just didn't really get a chance to explore what other ones I'd have liked instead. I was the last appointment of the day and I felt a bit pressured to make a choice because they really wanted to get the glasses made ASAP (since the lenses would take extra time anyway and they didn't want me using my old pair for much longer).Basically I felt like I got to compromise on them being purple - and even that was nearly an uphill battle
I always get the buy one get one free at Specsaver so its around £140 for a pair of glasses and prescription sunglasses.
I'd pay £200 tops (I wear glasses all the time except sleeping/showering/etc)
I work for an opticians and therefore get a hefty discount on glasses as well as a free annual eye test. I wear varifocals, and don't want to compromise my peripharal vision by cutting costs on cheaper lenses so my lenses are one of the more expensive options, I also like to choose from the designer ranges (although my previous frames were own brand as I could not find a designer frame that suited me better). My current pair would have cost over £500 before my staff discount, I think I paid just over £150.
I spent 500 in vision express. For thinned lenses and they were tit!
Moved to asda opticians and never looked back.
£80 for lovely glasses AND they thin them FOR FREE of you prescription requires it. Honestly could. It fault them. My glasses came out better at asda.

They also have a UV filter ( when I cure my nails I cant see the blue UV glow!)
Please try asda next time. By pwrscription is Bad and I mean double numbers bad. Just a question re online ordering of specs, how do they rate for fitting as when optician bought they measure for ears etc?? I’m thinking of buying online but worry they won’t fit!!
Somewhere like glasses direct you can return for a refund if not suitable...
2 pairs for £69 every single time I need new ones. I don't suit many frames do I have limited choice. My husband got 3 great pairs online for less than £70,noy designer but all nice frames and they thinned his lenses too. His lens is so thick so he was happy
