I've currently got an iPhone XR on EE, £43 a month for 50gb data. I'm due an update next month and I am stunned at the prices I am being quoted.

£76 for an iPhone 12 Pro Max with only 10gb data 😬 Seems scandalous to me! A friend of mine pays £102 a month! I refuse to pay that much on a bloody phone!

Anyone got any tips for where's cheap? Ideally I'd like to stay with EE as the service is great. I won't go back to o2, shocking customer services and the phone service was rubbish in my area. Is it possible to get sim only with EE then pay monthly for just a handset with anyone? My current handset is really smashed and the speaker doesn't work so I have to take calls using head phones, so keeping this one isn't really an option!

I buy my phone outright (Google Pixel currently) and have a SIM from Sky for £6 a month - unlimited calls/texts and I think 2gb of data. Any you don't use is rolled into a piggybank that you can use whenever needed.

ETA Just reread your current plan is 50gb of data 😱 do you actually use that much? I rarely use 2gb.

Phone companies are an absolute rip off these days. I have an iPhone XR which my partner bought me for Christmas a year ago and I am on sims only with SMARTY (well worth looking into). I pay £10 a month for unlimited text and calls and 30GB of data.

Use websites such as affordablephones!! I pay £53 a month for an iPhone 12 Pro with an upfront cost of £150. That’s with 3 and unlimited data.
I’m a sucker for a decent camera and I use so much data so prefer to have unlimited or 40+GB so I’m not having to worry about running out

I'm with EE on a Business Sim Only deal - 100gb data and unlimited calls and texts - costs £27 per month Incl. VAT
I used to be a heavy data user for work so wanted a large data provisoin, but now being at home I rarely use 10gb data per month
My partner is also on the EE personal Sim Only - similar data use for around the same price (I think it's £24 per month)

I was with O2 and their deals including the data were shocking

There are definitely some deals out there and from experience I have found EE to be quite "fair" on their SIM only rates.

Sim only as I realised I don't need to upgrade my phone as often and I don't ever want the latest phone now I am older and just really use it as a phone etc and to text (I'm in my 30s and don't have SM) but take photos for my job so i pay £14 a month for unlimited calls, texts and 10 GB data and roaming if and when I need it. With Vodafone.
I also then have home broadband so then get a discount on that too so pay £21 a month on that too.

I have a samsung s9. My original contract was £39 with 20gb. I'm now on a sim only until I need a new phone. That's £30 with 200gb Internet (ridiculous amount) but I'm only on that as I can get BT Sports with it.

I think the sim only without Sports was £19 for 30gb?

I paid for my phone outright (iPhone 11), and my phone plan is a family plan through EE, which gives us all unlimited data and calls/texts, since we have our internet with them too, they gave us all a good package. My dad pays this, so technically I don’t really pay anything a month

I really recommend EE, I always have signal, and they’re quite easy and straightforward to use, plus really friendly

I used affordable mobiles a few years ago and got a new iPhone XS (the newest one at the time), free texts and calls and 30gb data for £43 a month. Not particularly cheap but the best deal I could find at the time for the phone I wanted!

Lmao I'm still pay as you go with Three because I like my deal so much. €20 a month, all you can eat data. I have no idea how much calls and/or texts are.. I rarely ring anyone, and only use whatsapp/messenger for texting. So long as I top up by €20 on the same day each month, I get my data.

My main phone is a google pixel 4a.

I have two burner phones too, lower tier Samsung phones with.. you guessed it, pay as you go lol.

I think I pay about £23 -£24 including vat. £21-40 is a huge difference in my opinion.

I have a sim only contract from O2 and pay £15 a month for 20gb. I was on O2 and shopped around but was cheaper staying with O2.

I bought my iPhone 11 Pro on interest free finance from Apple directly in April - was £40 a month but I just paid it in full last week.

If you look on My Voucher Codes they quite often have deals, like sign up for a contract of £x a month with Y and get a free Amazon voucher 👍🏻

I kept the phone I have iPhoneXR after the 2 year contract ended and now pay £15 a month instead of £45. Refuse to get another phone whilst this one is in good condition.

I pay £13.25 per month for unlimited 5G on Vodafone. It’s usually better to buy the phone outright if you can or you can pay monthly through Apple or stores like Very or Littlewoods

I pay £10 per month with Voxi for 8GB data (but unlimited social media so I never even get close to using that), unlimited calls and texts. I buy my phones outright too but I think Apple do 0% finance? If you can keep the phone and SIM contract separate it’s usually much cheaper overall. (I worked out that by buying my current phone outright 2 years ago I saved myself about £200!)

I bought my phone outright and I pay £10 per month with Giffgaff for unlimited calls/texts and I think 9GB of data.

I didn't upgrade my phone when my last contract finished and just went to sim only plan. 27 a month with EE, unlimited minutes, texts, and data

Mobiles.co.uk is your friend! I’ve only ever got my contracts / phones from here and they’re amazing!
I currently pay £31 a month and have an iPhone 11. I’ve got unlimited calls, texts and I think 20GB of data.
